Familiars can be warded…
Familiars can be not warded…
You cannot do things to warded familiars that could potentially end up destroying them, e.g. using them in a Convert.
Accidentally destroying a familiar you wanted to keep, because you didn’t ward it, is not a bug, it’s a mistake.
