I reforged my main secondary item and i lost the level of the item. Thats insane actually!!! I hope you fix it guys please and give it back

It seems that when you use one of your equipped items, since the item you get is level 1, the materials and gold from the consumed one are given back, so you can upgrade your new item to the level the old one was.

The patch notes make it clear, and the in-game information confirms it, that the resulting item from set item reforging will result in a new item with random attributes, i.e. regardless of the quality of the three items put into the reforge, it’s random what comes out and this means the result could be a 2/2 item, even if you put in three 3/2 items, hoping for a 3/3.
What I’m amazed by is players who are using their equipped items as one of the three ingredients, in the sure knowledge that what they could end up with will be worse than the item they have equipped.
Seriously, use three spare copies of the item. That way, if the result is an upgrade, you swap out your current one for the better version and, if not, you just have another ingredient for a subsequent attempt.
Anyway, it’s not a bug and, as FernandoCR explained, you get your upgrade materials back if you do this so you could re-rank your new set item.
