I used a polished jade to upgrade my gloomcast gem. Then when I went upgrade it again using other gems, it is still at 3 stars? Just looking to recoup what i lost on Flitis, blood knight.

Sounds like a jade upgrade isn’t a true upgrade. So it will appear at the lower star level maybe?
If it isnt a true upgrade, then whats the point of it?
I’m not sure what you are trying to do here… With polished jade, you upgrade the quality of a 5-star gem, so with 1 polished jade, you can turn a quality 2 5-star gem into a quality 3.
After that, using other gems to keep upgrading that gem will increase its rank. For instance:
You have a Gloom Cast gem, quality 2, rank 4. Using one polished jade, you would end up with a quality 3, rank 4 Gloom Cask, like the one in the image:
Then you can use 1 x rank1 and 2 rank3 Gloom Casks to upgrade this gem from rank 4 to rank 5, but the gem will still be quality 3 (3 stars), unless one of the gems used in the upgrade is of a higher quality.
