Catch-up system _1 Day 1 Suggestion (12) 1일 1건의사항

Provide materials(scrap, dust) unconventionally for new users. Give them 5 to 10 times more than now.

The gap between new users and existing users is gradually widening.
Make it possible to catch up with something that cannot be caught up due to time gap like catch-up system of the warband tableau. It’s difficult to say because it’s a charging(P2W, money) element, but I’m talking about helliquary CR bonus, iben fahd’s sanctum, and normal gem. (in other words, CR bonus and secondary attributes)
Catch-up system like,
Until reach about average level of F2P player playing hard. at a rate that we can catch up with if we continue to play for a year or two.
It is impossible to completely catch up with the warband tableau 100% now. There is a parallel lines of the gap.(The gap can never become zero)
Over 1-2 years playing, make the gap gradually become zero.

I said similar things back in September 2023…

haha, we are on the same page here.

Or… it would be much easier and fair for everyone if they just created new servers with no ability to transfer to. So you could go out, but not in. This is what happened to “new” servers. Whales just split to different servers to hold reigns. Make a new server with low paragon and just let everyone start from zero. Catch-up mechanics are not quite fair for everyone who has been grinding for almost 2 years. Why should someone starting now be equally powerful?

The issue isn’t that they cannot catch up completely to someone that’s been playing since Day 1, it’s that they’re hard time-gated to be permanently 1-2 difficulties worth of CR behind current end-game content such as dungeons, raids and gauntlets no matter how much time, effort or, indeed, money they put into the game.

We now have a catch-up mechanics for paragon levels which makes it fairly trivial to catch up to the server’s paragon level. You can do this in as little as a couple of weeks.

But after you catch up to the paragon level, then you realise that your CR is nowhere near high enough to be playing with long-term players of that paragon level because there are other things that you simply cannot catch up…

  • Helliquary levels. These require voidblood slag, which requires salvaging excess raid boss remains, which are only available from the first 5 raid bosses you do each reset, i.e. you are permanently time-gated from ever catching this up.
  • Warband Tableau levels. They’ve mitigated this one by giving bonuses to the amount of CR per Tableau level upgrade you do but, once that bonus runs out, and you’re at 100% rate (or at penalty for being above the server’s tableau level) you’re once again back to being permanently time-gated from ever catching this up because you can only ever earn 1500 WB points a week, so 5 tableau upgrades a week.
  • Set item ranks. This one’s a bit easier to catch up if you have someone that’s willing to help you with challenge rift carries to get you lots of the red crystals, but you’ll still need lots of scraps and gold.
  • Legendary item ranks. This one’s an absolute beast of a grind. Getting 8 legendaries to Rank 30 is quite literally multiple months of non-stop circle farming. There’s no catch up. There’s no way anyone else can help. You can’t trade the materials. You’re just 4-6 months of grind behind anyone that’s already done this.
  • Iben Fahd’s Sanctum thing. You’re limited to how many keys you can earn per day / per week, which limits you as to how many chests you can open, which limits you to how many of the gems you can get, which limits you to how many secondary stat upgrades you can get.
  • Non-legendary gems. 21 lairs a week gets you 126 rank 1s. You can get 12 a day from doing content in a 4-man party, so that’s another 84. That’s 210 in total. Good luck ever catching up to someone that’s been here from Day 1 that has rank 6 or 7 gems.
  • Legendary gems. Think about how many rare crests / legendary crests / eternal legendary crests someone that’s been playing this since Day 1 has earned. Then imagine how many legendary gems those have generated. That’s how far behind a new player is, in terms of the CR they grant, but also the resonance so that you stand a tiny chance in BGs against the 9K whales.

We’re not saying that players should have a way of catching up completely but rather that there’s huge, hard time-gating which prevents them from ever even getting close.

This is why you’ll find players in your random dungeon groups that have similar paragon to you, and they’ve entered at a difficulty level that they’re often hundreds, or even thousands, of CR too low for, die all the time, and are generally just a wasted spot. It’s not their fault. They literally have no way to catch up and most of the reason has very little, if anything, to do with the base CR of their equipped items.

Sounds about right. I think I’ve reached that point, I’m roughly 1500 CR below Inf6 requirement and the regular gear drops barely affect my total CR. The timegated stuff really hinder me moving further forward. For example my main gear upgrades are level 16-17 and secondaries are 14-15, that alone is a lot of missing CR but I can get only so much mats to upgrade.

My legendaries are Rank 30…

  • Rank 30 grants 220 CR. With 8 legendaries, that’s (8 * 220) = 1760 CR.
  • Rank 16 grants 78 CR. With 8 legendaries, that’s (8 * 78) = 624 CR.

Difference is (1760 - 624) = 1136 CR.

My set items haven’t been upgraded evenly. I have 1 at 20, 6 at 18, 1 at 17. If I’d done them all evenly, this could have been 1 at 19, 7 at 18. But, let’s just say all 8 are at 18.

  • Rank 18 grants 164 CR. With 8 set items, that’s (8 * 164) = 1312 CR
  • Rank 14 grants 108 CR. With 8 set items, that’s (8 * 108) = 864 CR

Difference is (1312 - 864) = 448 CR.

So, just with the gear ranks, the difference in CR is (1136 + 448) = 1584 CR.

And we’ve just shown where 1584 CR could come from.

The set item ranks could be sorted out if you have a willing chum that would carry you through some challenge rifts for the red crystals, but the legendary ranks are just months of grinding for scraps / dusts.

Out of interest, let’s compare a couple of other things…

  • My Warband Tableau is providing me with 1330 CR
  • My Helliquary is level 67 with INF6 remains. It’s providing me with 2539 CR

What are your equivalent values?

Helliquary: level 32, 2006 CR
Tableau: 840 CR

I’m well behind those too, another 1000 CR.

So, differences…

  • Helliquary - (2539 - 2006) = 533 CR
  • Tableau - (1330 - 840) = 490 CR

That’s (533 + 490) = 1023 CR difference from Tableau and Helliquary.

So, myself and Kirottu are prime examples of what the thread’s about. I’m currently Paragon 1332 (i.e. server + 12) and have 36313 CR. I believe Kirottu has similar Paragon levels but if we total up the differences due to set item rank (448 CR), legendary item rank (1136 CR), helliquary (533CR) and tableau (490 CR) and ignore whatever our legendary gems are doing for us, that puts Kirottu at (448 + 1136 + 533 + 490) = 2707 CR behind me. That comes out to (36313 - 2707) = 33606.

The requirements for Inferno 6 are…

  • Open World (33300)
  • Dungeons (33700)
  • Raid Bosses (33500, 34300, 34500, 34700, 34900).
  • Gauntlet 6 (34900).

This means Kirottu has enough CR to comfortably do INF6 open-world and lairs, just about enough for dungeons, but insufficient for the 2nd-5th raid boss, and G6 is a complete non-starter. Oblivion Spires will also be a major struggle as their CR requirements are higher than the difficulty’s dungeon equivalent.

A lot of that 2.7K CR difference is something that Kirottu, quite simply, cannot catch up, ever, unless Blizzard implement some more / better catch-up mechanics.

My CR is 35646
My HQ is 2507
My WB is 1275

So my HQ (2507) - Your HQ ( 2539) = 32 difference.

and my WB (1275) - your WB (1330) = 55 difference.

and finally, my CR (35646) - your CR (36313) = 667 difference.

667 CR - 87 CR = 580 CR Difference between you and me.

The heck, where was another 580 CR come from your character? Gear with 3 stats? 7 of my gear rank is 30 and another one ranks 29.

I’m not asking game dev to make new users catch up right away. Gradually over 1-2 years. It’s the time for them to become old users too.
Since this is a p2w game, they have to spend money if they want to get stronger quickly not in 1-2 years.(Game company also have to make a living.) Even if they do, there will still be a gap between new and old whales.
I don’t want that the gap which can’t be narrowed continues to exist depending on the time when new users start, I’m saying ‘hang out together’ at the same level. The number of players is gradually decreasing.

You are so meticulous.

Updated with full details.

Yeah, it seems so it was indeed gear difference.

Mine doesn’t have that many 1.8k+ CR, especially the set item section.

Oh man, you really play (or lucky) a lot to farm all those 1.8k CR gear.

At least I know gear was the reason why I can’t reach 36k CR, not because I don’t spend $$$.

I decided that this comes up often enough, and I get asked in-game enough, to produce this…

It would be great if all new players start at level 500, and level up fast. That would be better than Blizz suggesting to demote all existing players to level 299.

Never heard “number squish” before?

Level doesn’t matter. Level is hollow. It is a measure of how much time has passed in DI. What is important is combat power (damage, life, CR, secondary attributes, etc.)

They already do. A brand new player, as soon as they reach level 60 and gain access to paragon levelling, has a 1500% XP bonus. As an example, a Battle Pass level grants a baseline of 972,966 XP. With the 1500% XP bonus, that becomes 15,567,456 XP. A full Battle Pass week is capped at 2400 BP points, with 180 BP per level. This means you can gain 13.333 BP levels in a week. At 15,567,456 XP per level, that’s 207,566,080 XP. Each paragon level costs 3,500,00 XP. So, that’s 207,566,080 / 3,500,000 = 59.3 paragon levels per week, just from the BP levels, i.e. not counting all the rest of the XP you gain from kills, dungeons, BGs, accursed towers, vaults, elder rifts, purges / castle defence, and so on. It’s incredibly easy to put on well in excess of 100 paragon a week without trying hard with that level of XP bonus. With a lot of playing, you could go paragon 1-1300 in a fortnight.

And then you’d be stuck because you don’t have enough CR to do anything useful for your level.

There’s obviously RNG involved, but there’s also the fact that the more often you get to roll the dice, the more likely you’ll eventually get a good result. As an example, I just got this…

Mine only 285 dungeons cleared. You played too much DI.
