Can't use a dormant rank 2 bsj as a rank 1 to upgrade another rank 2 bsj

I finally got a rank 1 bsj to progressively upgrade my existing bsj. However, I had been using my existing bsj as an auxiliary gem for so long I forgot it was a rank 2 and accidentally upgraded my new gem, so now I have two rank 2 bsj’s. Obviously, I would prefer to have one rank 3 bsj, but now I’m unable to do so unless I can get yet another.

I made another post asking why this is not possible, and a respondant said they’ve done so by making one gem dormant to use it as a material for the other gem, however this no longer seems to be possible.

If this is intentional by blizzard, the only rationale I can imagine is to punish players for daring to relax while playing a game, and prodding them to spend money on more crests. My hope is that blizzard is not that antagonistic towards its players and this is merely a bug and oversight.

Progressive upgrades do not start until rank 4. This is why you can’t use a dormant gem yet.

So blizzard’s intention is antagonistic. Wow.

it’s not like this was ever possible before, this is a feature when progressive upgrades were introduced for those who had previously pre upgraded their gems for a full upgrade. Just because it doesn’t work as you feel it should doesn’t show any ill intentions. You goofed up, that’s on you

When you design an entire world and system for people to interact with it, with entire teams devoted to the user experience, and with forums to collect feedback and consistent updates to the world/system, every design choice demonstrates a set of values and tradeoffs between those values. You can absolutely infer the intent of an artist or engineer from their design choices, assuming they’re at least minimally competent.
