did you wear it? Unfortunately as time has passed you are out of luck of any possible corrections if they ever bother to do them

it happen to me before, unbound become bound, i dont know how it happen, but it is what it is. my suggestion, always keep your unbound gem in stash

An unbound gem becomes bound, if:

  • equipped as primary gem in one of the slots
  • equipped as auxiliary gem in one of the primary gems
  • equipped as resonance gem in one of the primary gems
  • equipped as resonance gem in the wings (after hitting 6k resonance)
  • upgraded using bound gem fragments
  • character transfers to another server

Did you perform any of these actions? Especially using an unbound gem as auxiliary or resonance gem, can happen easily if not paying attention and confirming the warning too fast.

I didn’t do any of these. It was a duplicate from a mirror event that I was intentionally saving to sell.

In a Mirrored Jewels event, regardless of whether the main drop was unbound or bound, the duplicate is always bound.

The duplicate was quality 4/5 then and the 5/5 was unbound. I don’t know which one was “original” vs “duplicate” , I just know 5/5 was unbound until patch update .

Only an original drop, from using an Eternal Legendary Crest, could be unbound.
The quality level of the original (5/5) and duplicate (4.5) can be different, as in your case.

The unbound one was the original, because duplicates are always bound.
The bound one was the duplicate.

As you say you did none of the things that wilco listed, I don’t know what else to suggest, other than seeing if Blizzard ever fix it for you.
