This is not a try to rant our mock the game iam just really curios.
The game started under the premise of back to the roots.
Dark and grim world. Gory. Slower pavced meaningful combat yada yada.
The game became blizz best selling game ever.
So it seems people are really into this narrative of a dark and gloomy horror arpg.
Yet basicly since launch it is going full throttle D3.5.
Why?
The new trailer for Voh is looking very old school and grim. But the gameplay is flashy. A powerfantasy.
I think a more honest cinematic would be if the 6 player chars ride in on He-man cats and slaughter a bazillion demons while blasting ‘Ride of the valkiries’ from a big boom box slapped on the back of a sabertooth cat.
The return to roots D2 stuff crashed and burned … hard, because that was a complete mismatch for what the market wanted out of D4. So the devs completely changed course and remade the entire game over the last year to better align with the market. It’s going great, but sadly some people like yourself feel jilted.
The game has built in analytics. Player engagement ect are all measured and turned into metrics.
They don’t need streamers or forums to get a handle on what people are doing with the game, or how changes effect player behavior.
Can we not venture down tin foil hat lane, looking for someone to blame?
More than D1, D2, D2R, D4 (12-13 Mio? laughable), Last Epoch and POE combined. So THE ARPG to beat. For me, giving WoW 12 month subscribers a D3 RoS license for free is equal to including D4 in the X-Box pass 4 free. Where is the news, that millions of those Xbox pass subscribers now play D4?
D2R sold just 5 mio copies: 1/13 of the D3 copies sold:
So, what would you do if you think logically and economically?
I went back to D3 in S5, because D4 is way too complex in comparison to D3 and in D3 you can achieve something, have fun and it doesn’t take forever. -.-
and I need the WHOLE season to maybe finish a GR150 SSF with my fav build Wiz Firebird EB. Currently at GR136 EU (only Rank 13 ). I hope I can achieve my goal, until the season is closed. 3 month for a season in D3 is way too limited time for a fun casual noob like me.
They failed to transform into D2. And it should be easier to go back to D3, D2 would need runes, better balancing, better itemization, crafting, cube etc. D3 has a simple itemization… that was the path they chose. Nobody wanted that. But D2 is a work of art impossible to copy at the moment. We don’t have a single best one yet.
Which is exactly what the game should be. Most people don’t want slow combat and slow leveling. For those that do D2R was released for that crowd. I’d rather see D4 take inspirations from D3 over D2.
So this is the majority of the player base right here:
Where as a very small vocal minority want this:
So when the majority of your player base wants faster action, regardless of the world building around it as that only goes so far. You get the current version of the game after all the revisions it’s been through since launch.
Now the question people have to ask themselves is if they like this sort of play style. Because it’s only going to go further down this rabbit hole. Although we do have some who have issues letting go, and continue to play the game even though they supposedly hate it.
Short answer ? - cause Raxx and his army of trolls couldn’t kept their mouth shut and blabbed the very first thing they could think of time and time again instead of providing a useful feedback after being engaged with some more thorough thought
I’d argue it’s because while there are certain aesthetic choices many would have liked to see in the game, most people actually prefer the high-speed, frenetic action of a D3 over a D1 or D2. Those games were about building up your char and experiencing an atmosphere of slow, brooding dread, but that’s a much more niche taste today and other styles of game tend to cater to it more than most modern ARPGs. They wanted the larger audience so they seized it.
