D4 is rated 2.4/10 on metacritic (that’s mostly from release state of the game). It has darker vibe which I really like but gameplay got copy pasted from D3 so again generator/spender/cooldown playstyle. Didn’t feel like Diablo 2 at all.
Many people complained this skill system is boring so Blizzard just speed up the gameplay cuz too late for whole skill system rework. Why they repeat the mistakes D3 made is unknown.
Now after time it’s rated positive on steam so I guess it worked well.
In Diablo 2 every skill uses mana and you have to drink mana potions to refill. Cooldowns are very short like 3 seconds max. There are no ultimate skills. GGG built on this system in PoE.

Sadly you know I’m not wrong. It’s the same reason why D2R isn’t doing so well either.

Yep. If D2 launched today even with top of the line graphics it would barely be able to keep pace with Last Epoch.

This. They promised a return to the gritty art style and dark tone. They never promised a return to old school D2 grind.

PoE 2 will be more like what D4 should’ve been. I’m not saying this is a bad game at all though, it’s certainly coming around. I had a blast this season and can’t wait for the expansion. Tuning in tomorrow for campfire chat!
I don’t understand the question. It’s still an ARPG with open world, PvP and co-op elements. If you mean the whole Citadel thing, this is just another PvP weird thing people are freaking out about for no reason.
You don’t ever have to touch PvP if you don’t want to and as long as Blizzard keeps their word you’ll never have to touch the Citadel - but if you do, there’s going to be a party finder they seem to be pretty happy with that can be used for all aspects of the game so you won’t ever have to group up, you can just scrub it in pubs.
There were a variety of improvements D4 needed at launch, but they’ve really let the pendulum swing too far in the other direction. One-shotting everything 10+ lvls above you isn’t any fun, either.
I think tomorrow may break a lot of hearts. Reining in the power creep needs to be at the heart of Progression 2.0.

Devs said a few times that they changed direction because that is what the players are asking for.
They expected one thing, released a game that the vast majority complained about and changed course.
Most players don’t have the time or desire to grind for weeks and maybe never get the beast items before season is over. 85% play solo, there are still a lot of players who haven’t beaten NMD 100, let alone soloed Tormented boss, for them the game is plenty hard.

“Target farming” is a great example how D4 devs fail to understand what made D2 good. In D2, inventing efficient ways to farm for stuff was part of the game. Players invented target farming. In my opinion it was fun because it felt like you are exploiting the game. I was determined to clear a certain area hundreds of times in hopes of getting an item I wanted. It was my own idea, no one told me to do that.

You fail to realize … that game, wouldn’t exist today. You loved it, great, but it has no mass appeal.
Blizzy has shareholders, and they must see profit, or the game gets put on life support and sees no continued development.
The money invested in D4 development has to see a return, and to make it worth doing, that return needs to be of a size that a niche D2v2 game cannot provide.
You can be as vocal as you like, express your view and whatever else. No matter how much you scream at the clouds, you wont be able to change the simple fact above.
D2 can work today, but not at the scale that Blizzard operates at.

No I don’t. I was using past tense, D2 is an outdated game.

Most of the Arpg community left D4 so blizz fell back on there MMO community because they are easy to sell skins and consmetic to… its that simple fellaz cheers… read some of these forum post from the guys with 5k+ post and tell me they know what they are talking about half the time? They dont… just like half the people talking about solos being casuals when the fact is most solos are so hardcore that a group will slow them down. Best advice is to let D4 go fellaz and dont buy the expansion

wait diablo has a story???
Greed - when you try to make your target audience as wide as possible you end up with a bland mixed stew. They could have done heavy atmospheric design with a lot of grimdark and sexual lore - but that would cut off everyone younger than 18 and bump into china’s censorship and woke sensibilities. They could done the opposite way and scrapped the rather nice campaign, cinematics and tons of actually good side quests and totally made this a sport with a pvp and or group pve focus, but then the single player crowd would have just checked out. They could have tried to do a mmoarpg but then they would compete with wow and cannibalize their own players. So D4 is a little bit of everything and not enough of any single thing - enough to entice people of many groups to buy the game, but not enough to keep them engaged and happy. Which while perfectly suiting D4s business model in which players are a cost (aside from battle pass and cosmetics which i doubt many buy), is a design that tends to piss many people off.

I can say for sure, that i would not play the game again and again every season if max level took 150-200 hrs every time.

this is all nostalgia though “Slower pavced meaningful combat yada yada.”, i don’t see how teleporting around with maxed out FCR and spamming hammers, blizzard, lightning java, mosaic assassin and so on is “slower paced and meaningful combat”.
The only difference to me, trying to be as “objective” as i can be, is that d2 had the focus on the progression being more slow while d4 has a very fast progression but then it slows down the further you go into end game activities and min maxing. This is because d2 was not meant as a live service game and had no endgame at all. People need to understand that the “old days” are long gone and need to move on. Besides you can still play d2r, i do from time to time.

Isnt wow classic level cap 60? So now D4’s level cap just so happens to be 60?.. Yea OK lol… just like the aoe light show that the spirit born is, thats a class that should be in wow, everybody wanted a paladin so bad that The devs got half the player base to bag on the ones asking for paladin and turn it into a meme haha cant make this up…

Uh oh, these kind of threads of prone to be deleted around here. Talking from experience.
I’ve made a dozen of similar threads during S2 and most of them got deleted the moment people started heavily interacting.
It’s been a long time since then so this probably won’t get the axe because most people are foreign to what you’re saying at this point. Most that cared, left and will never come back.
So the game was never meant to be like d2. It was never developed to be like D2 cause that would not work nowadays.
Then the game gets heavy criticism after realese.
Ofc D2 is at fault. Even though D4 was not developed to be like D2 cause that is not working in modern day gaming.
I don’t wanna be to personal or rude. But man I hope you can see the how stupid that is.
D2 gets blame die failure of D4 even though D4 was never developed in a way to work like d2.
