Exactly the same issue for me. Game was fine before VoH upgrade, but is completely unplayable now due to high latency. Nothing seems to help. I have not bought VoH. Is that the problem?
There is no solution! LOL! It’s just Blizzard servers. LMAO!
LOL! I have a 1660ti, a CPU above specs, an SSD, and 16gb of RAM, and it makes no difference. Something is causing obscene amounts of lag at random times and I have no idea what’s causing it except for Blizzard servers. That’s the only thing it could be. I’ve set the settings to High or Ultra and I can see when the computer gets bogged down and loses frames, but that’s not what this is. It’s definitely server-based because it lags most especially when in town or riding on the horse and when people appear in the overworld.
Having all the same issues as everyone else exactly as described, just wanted to throw my voice in.
Can confirm this is happening to me too. Pretty much unplayable right now.
Having the same issues it latency, If you turn off cross play it will cut the latency in half and helps a ton. I have a beast of a computer and its happening to me as well. Turn off Cross play
possible fix. i had the game installed on a HDD disk. uninstaled the game. then installed on a SSD. and the problem went away
If you look at the requirements for Diablo IV, it actually requires an SSD.
This will also cause the teleport to disconnect, as it takes too long to load assets from a typical HDD. And yes, we have been seeing players multiple times using HDDs to run the game and having these issues.
But I don’t like to ask the question of whether they are running on an HDD or SSD because some get kinda testy about it.
Feels like a few different issues are getting conflated here. From my perspective, the issues (heavy latency, awful sound distortion, etc.) are entirely linked to the VoH update. Everything was running just fine up until the moment that update went live. Now the game is unplayable (yes, I have it on SSD, cross-play disabled, etc.). I haven’t bought VoH, and I guess I’m starting to think that those who just have the base game are now relegated to second rate servers, or something like that. (And just to add insult to injury, the update also completely nerfed all my hard-won master worked gear … oh well!).
Same issue here plus it disconects me from the server after long loading screens
I’m getting the same thing , disconnects on teleport/login, latency or lagg on using teleports, i went from 200 ms latency to 4000- memory usage 84% of 64Gig Ram, running on a SSD. prior to season 6 launch no problems, little lag here and there, now i cannot play it longer than 5-10 min…(i have disabled cross network play, and system only using 0.1 Mbs network usage when running diablo.)
It’s not that…I ONLY have an SSD installed in my computer
That’s good! lol
There have been many that I ran into that were running this game from an HDD though.
aren’t like 99% of computers of the last decade built with a SSD as a main drive nowadays though? Who’s running a HDD for major programs anymore? And most laptops don’t even have HDDs as an option anymore.
Of course. But couple points:
-
You can still buy brand new computers without an SSD. (shocker I know)
-
Large storage in an SSD is expensive, and HDDs are much cheaper per TB.
Hell I just bought a 12TB HDD for less than 100 for a build I’m working on. But its a Jellyfin server for a customer. I run the OS and the server files from an SSD and the 12TB will store the movie/show files.
Yeah same experience here.
I’ve got 32GB of RAM so it’s not a memory-related issue unless it’s leaking like crazy.
RTX3020 video card, so many light years beyond the min gfx card requirement.
It’s an Optane-enabled 15,000 RPM HDD that’s done fine all this time so I have doubts about the SSD bit claims. Especially with so many people saying they have it on SSD.
It’s not an FPS rendering issue on the client side 'cause it’ll be doing fine and then freeze solid for 1-3 seconds and then go back to 60+ FPS. That’s either a) network delay or b) server pipeline is full
I’m betting on b.
They have a lot of other bugs going on that they are not acknowledging. The known issues page implies there are no client issues, which may be true, but is totally mum on server side.
Which, in theory, is because they are busy working on things.
You should monitor and check this.
Two things you can look for:
- Review your fenris logs if you crash and look to see if it has any out of memory errors.
- Monitor your memory via Task Manager->Performance->Memory.
Using the task manager there look at the section for “Committed”. Watch the usage while playing, if the amount used nears the amount total, you have an issue. I have been posting about making changes to the swap file that will help the problem and it won’t harm your system or other games/programs. If anything it will help the overall system performance a tad.
This is a similar issue I had back during the launch of D4 with Ultra Textures. The studder’s were just unreal, despite being well above spec. 12th Gen I7 Intel, 6950XT 16GB VRAM, 32GB DRAM, 2TB Nvme. Just prior to the expac I did play a bit on ultra textures and it did seem like they finally fixed it.
Now it seems this issue has returned but somehow even worse then before. Thankfully lowering the textures back down to high does seem to resolve most of the studder and is much more fluid. This might not work for everyone but for me and many others it seems to get rid of the lion’s share of hitching while traversing / UI lag. Maybe they will fix it again, I hope.
I don’t know if it’ll help anyone feel better, but I too am experiencing massive Framerate drop, and continuous stutters since VoH. I have made sure my video drivers are up to date. I’m running an average 50 fps or less, with stutters dropping me to 20 every few seconds when I’m moving. Prior to VoH, I was running well over 100 fps, without any issue. My internet latency is actually much higher than it was before as well. I’m running 250+ms but I was running around 20-50ms prior to VoH.
Hopefully there’s a fix before long. Really makes the experience less enjoyable.
My setup
13th Gen I9-13900
32GB DDR5 5600mhz RAM
2 - 1TB SSD
16GB GDDR6 RTX 4090
Win11
-edit- I did want to add that I also had the issue where the merc skilltree was not showing for me. I had to change the display to make it populate. So clearly there are some graphical issues with the game.
No offense, but this makes no sense.
There is no 16GB 4090. There is only 24GB. Or you have a 16GB 4080.
Tell you what. Run the game, but open your Task Manager while its running. Go to Performance, then click Memory
Under here toward the bottom look for Committed. It will show something like 10/40 GB (as an example).
While playing the game, if those two numbers get to be near the same value, you need to setup a fixed swap file size. For your system it may need a 24GB swap file. (24768MB)
