A real fast question for ppl if they would prefer this setup over the current setup.
My idea is for each gauntlet to have a featured build for each class. The character chooses either nothing or has just a few choices like multiple ultimates or 10 leftoever paragon points and then you lock in your few choices before starting the run and it keeps this setup for you in future until you respect it for gold.
So all your gear, aspects, paragon, skill points, and most your skills are chosen for you. This has some major pros but also cons.
PROs
Completely evens the playing field.
No longer need to farm best movement gear to participate.
No longer need to be LV 100 to have best chances.
No longer need to switch builds.
Most people can participate
Only skill and best route matter.
CONs:
Not as fun in parties
Hurts trade economy
Some ppl like the hunt for optimizing for gauntlet
Cant always use your favorite skills or ultimates
Everyone is just copying the top builds that are not private anyways so I see this as a mostly great change.
to be honest i think they should have done a endlessly scaling arena that starts at base wt4 enemies and just gets harder overtime like last epoch
personally i like farming gear to optimize my build
Not sure I’d like the idea of running what build they have predetermined for me. I think the best way to keep it as fair as possible it to simply block uber uniques and consumables.
EDIT: I’ll give a like for making a suggestion though.
All the builds for sorc are ball lightning and teleport based with flickerstep and shako I could see. We all know how fast ball lightning is and since its based on tier 70 dungeon it doesnt matter the damage is less.
Sounds just like D3’s weekly GRift challenges, but with slightly more options.
There’s an economy?
In all seriousness, I wouldn’t have an issue with this being tacked onto the existing gauntlet, but in no way should it replace it. Also I feel the LB for this shouldn’t be immortalized either, just feels like it wouldn’t be much of an achievement in my personal opinion.
I see it more as just fun little side content people can tackle at their leisure with little to no effort for some small rewards, similar to how it worked in D3. So I wouldn’t mind it, just not as a replacement for what we have now.
There could be 2 gauntled like challenge rifts and gr in d3. One with fixed characters, just to show skill, secend gauntlet where we can participing with our personal characters.
I didn’t like D3 challenge mode because I didn’t always want to play builds I didn’t like, much less try to be efficient with builds I didn’t like.
I’d rather bring my own build. Ubers matter far
Less than your strat/route.
Not a bad idea but I don’t see how it would work. It would require “setup” and I think the 1 thing D4 has going for it is simplicity (maybe overly so?..not complaining!). I think it’d make sense to just ban Ubers. The consensus is that in this case (running The Gauntlet), strategy matters over gear, especially Ubers. Before release, lots of folks were saying "oh there are builds even without Uniques that will be in the Top 10, but in every Top 10 I’ve been peaking at (that aren’t hidden), the players have 3+ Ubers and fully min-maxed gear…granted, this could be incidental, alas, no way to prove this either way. Making you swap to a non-uber unique or other gear imho, would, at least perception-wise, equal the field.
this! I don’t understand why they implement content that is actively shafting the “build the best character” part of the game.
Traps - you have to move slow and methodically (they fixed this, by nullifying traps)
Gauntlet - dmg doesn’t really matter, only speed does…
So, I’m one shotting everything in the gauntlet with MS on neck and Boots, so I’m by no means slow, but I don’t have perma 200% MS or a no cooldown teleporting Sorc?
Somehow the gauntlet turned out to be more meta than I thought was possible.
I think the devs should not waste any more dev time on this type of game play, for now. We need more end game. The Gauntlet is for 5% of the player base that like it and there is nothing wrong with making content for that segment of the players, but we got bigger fish to fry on this one to make the game last more than a week into each new season before it gets boring and we quit the season.
