It crashes frequently to desktop after 1-2 hours of play. In random situation.: walking, fight, interaction with NPC or chest. I see some form to report a bug, and thats it.
Need to start the game again.
I didn’t pay too much attention to this bug. But finally I found my HC character dead when I started the game.
Digging the issue I have learnt that it is a common problem since a long time.
Why can’t you fix it? Or at least save HC characters from dying in that way.
im kicked from the server constantly and im running fiber optic internet with an average of 850+ MBPS. basically same computer but 2 generations higher on my RTX
It must be some fatal bug in memory management which generates overflow and crash.
I want to finish Campaign before making experiments.
I use a temporary solution. Kill the game every 40 minutes and start again. It works for me.
Chances are you probably just need a swap file setup with a static size of 16 to 32 GB. This is quite common an issue right now especially if the video card has a lot of memory. Even if you have a lot of physical memory this problem pops up.
And when I say static I mean setting the swap file to a size set at 16 GB or higher. They have an option for Min and Max and both need to be set to the same value.
If you aren’t sure (and I don’t know your memory amount or GPU ram amount) set both min and max to 32768. The values suggested in the link are before VoH launched.
If you had say 32GB of memory and an 8GB video card, you can use less for the swap.
You can monitor Virtual Memory usage:
Open Task Manager
Click on Performance
Click on Memory
Look for “Committed”
You can leave it open here while playing and occasionally Alt-Tab to check on it. If the in-use amount nears the total amount, you may need to set the swap higher.
Committed represents the total of your Physical RAM and the swap file that is set. The game is VM hungry, so often the automatic system in place simply cannot keep up and fails.
Setting it to a static size prevents it from running out. The game does eventually stabilize.
You can also provide a copy of the Fenris log using pastebin.com for me to review as I suggested earlier.
I have generated the error again.
And now I have something new giving the clue.
Before game exit to desktop, new dialog box appeared.
Saying that the system run out of memory because of “video setting exceeding the capabilities of hardware”. I had a 2 options, reset video to default YES/SKIP
I play in 4K with graphic option set to full including the ray tracking. And it works fine.
Windows doesnt recommend setting swap values if your running over 8GB Ram but i tried it and it crashed within 5 minutes in game 15 times so far. this is on Diablo’s Servers not our PC’s! whatever they did during the Christmas event screwed the game over and thats been consistent across all forums
To whom are you asking? I would suggest the same for anyone asking for help.
That debug file gives me a lot of info that can help me troubleshoot what might be causing the issues that some of you have.
Without that, I’m throwing darts at a dartboard in a completely black room. Sure, I’m bound to hit once in a while, but having some vision improves my chances…
All you have to do:
Find the latest FenrisDebug file located in the installation folder for Diablo IV. The default location is:
C:\Program Files(x86)\Diablo IV
However some people may put it on a different drive, etc. Go to where it is on your system.
Sort the folder by date
Find the newest FenrisDebug from your latest crash
The page it goes to next, highlight and copy the URL
Come back here
Paste the URL
Highlight the URL you just pasted here
Click the </> button in the toolbar to render the link unclickable and it will allow you to post it. (Some of you can post it regardless, as I have done above.)
Then I can review it and look for a possible cause.
Otherwise, some of this is wasting our time. Posting error codes are useless here, as I have no way to reference them.
I 2025.01.02 22:10:29.190567 0 [Game] DirectStorage: Enabled
Direct storage. This sometimes can affect how the game plays on some SSDs. What you can do is disable direct storage to see if this will help. To do that, use these instructions:
To access the settings you do the following:
From the Battlenet App game page for Diablo IV, click the Gear Cog to the right of the play button.
In the menu that appears, click on Game settings.
On the next page, you should have an option for Additional command line arguments. Click the check box to enable.

You have an RTX 2070 with 8GB of memory. As this is an RTX enabled card you need to turn on GPU Scheduling:
Windows 11 24H2:
Right-click the desktop → Display Settings
Scroll down to Graphics and click on it
Click “Change default graphics settings” at the top
Make sure the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is turned on
Restart your PC (make sure to choose restart, not shut down)
I 2025.01.02 22:10:31.509519 0 [Game] [Prism] Raytracing is enabled
I would disable Ray Tracing completely for this card. While this is an RTX card, Ray Tracing in this game is a huge performance hit.
I 2025.01.02 22:10:31.557945 0 [Game] [Prism] Opening Prism in 3840x2160 fullscreen window on monitor 0 (3D viewport in 3840x2160). Monitor refresh rate is 60.000 Hz
You are attempting to run 4K resolution with this card and this game. There are a couple things you need to keep in mind here:
Your card only has 8GB. This prevents the game from using the High Resolution textures. And even if it does use them anyway, its going to cause a performance hit. I recommend removing them for the time being. You can do that via the gear cog next to the play button on the launcher, then click game settings → modify install and uncheck the high res assets.
60hz refresh rate. Which means you need to make sure the game is capped or vsync set to run no higher than 60FPS. You will not gain anything by running it higher than that, on this display with that card.
With this card, I would recommend making sure DLSS is set to either Balanced or Performance. As for graphic settings, you can start out at Ultra, but you might want to run at High for the global settings. Disable Chromatic Aberration and Distortion.
I 2025.01.02 22:10:31.565246 0 [Game] Video_Driver 566.14
This driver is the latest I think, however this game can run touchy on it. Sometimes its better to run on a slightly older driver. At this point in time, the best results have been found with the 561.09 version. But I would save that till a last resort change.

[Game] ChromaEffects failed to initialize
This is common. It doesn’t like Razer stuff. Disable the Peripheral Lighting in settings for now. (Also called Chroma effects)
This is where it crashed. However this can be a bit generic, I see this a lot. It means it lost communication with the GPU.
This can be due to several reasons:
Memory issues. This doesn’t mean there is a problem with the memory, but rather the game gets fussy about how its using it. And we all know its a memory hog. I’m hoping that if you implement some of the above it will help narrow this down.
GPU Driver issue. This may have to do with the GPU scheduling not being set, or the driver being twitchy, which is why going back a couple versions can help.
Power/Heat issue. Yes, if the GPU power is touchy, the PSU is not stable, it can cause the card to drop while under load. Its not as likely, but possible. Could also be heat related. Check and clean out card for dust, etc.
Internet connection hiccups. A problem with the connection can cause it to drop the GPU as well.
To sum up:
I would make adjustments to the graphic settings as suggested above first.
Then to try disabling Direct Storage to see if that helps second.
Then proceed to change the driver, and finally go through the physical card, clean out dust, check that cables and card are fully seated and tight.
Note do not use Rollback as suggested here. nVidia recommends downloading the driver version you want, then uninstalling the current driver, then installing the one you download. If that fails, then use the DDU tool as suggested.
Bottom line, I’m trying to lower your system in-game latency. This needs to be less than 10ms. Higher than that causes issues with the game immensely. Its not something you can measure without using a tool like Afterburner and Rivatuner stats, but I have an idea of what it may take to get the system to run closer to that without the tool. But you are welcome to install it and have it help you monitor the in-game latency. (this has nothing to do with the internet latency)
Its also a 13700 CPU, which could be having an issue as well. But I’m not going there yet. The problem is more likely something simpler, hence the suggestions made so far.
I had hoped that setting my GPU clock down to the same point that has been safe with other ray-traced games would solve my crashing problem, but no, the game still crashed after about 2.5 hours. The virtual memory solution didn’t work either.
Tomorrow, I’ll try with all ray-tracing off.
EDIT: Oh, my game’s error was the same as Jarozbaw’s btw.
Hi, please help, im realy tired from thoses crahes, tried so many tips from forums, but nothing is helpig. I got also “low memory” error, but I solved it.
So my last my crash is here. This is report ID after crash: A9CF3124-1304-4D42-ACB6-3026ABADA67D
I had to cut the file into 4 pieces because it is too big for pastebin.
