Game crashes on startup

Bought a brand new 980 (SATA SSD) from bestbuy. Still same issues.
Trying out a tiny 256gb Samsung USB drive. Same issues.

What is going on here? I paid $100 and canā€™t even start the game. Crashes either at the start screen r, when I click really fast, when trying to login.

I can confirm that moving the game folder from nvme drive to ssd drive lets me get into the game WTF Blizzard :frowning:

so what, because i have an nvme drive im just screwed? $100 down the drain?
why did i ever expect better from this joke company

So I was having crashing and couldnā€™t get the game to play at all. Installed another SSD and bam its working. Main drive is Corsair Force Series MP600 1 Terabyte. Installed a cheap Kingston 250 gig ssd that I had laying around and it has working for the last three hours without fail. I uninstalled D4 off main drive deleted its folder in appdata than fresh install on the new drive.

Confirmed fix for me as well, moving from NVME to SSD and game booted right up as expected. Thanks for the suggestions!

Well, it makes no sense to me, but CrystalDiskMark fixes my problem. The game would run fine on my super old HDD, but not my new NVMe SSD. I installed CrystalDiskMark, ran the program, clicked settings and selected ā€˜NVMe SSDā€™ from the dropdown list, and then clicked the green ā€˜Allā€™ button. Fired up D4 and it logged in without issue - and you can close CrystalDiskMark once youā€™re logged in.

I then tried opening the game several more times, alternating between using CrystalDiskMark as described above and not doing that, and every time I used CrystalDiskMark the game loaded perfectly. When I didnā€™t, the game wouldnā€™t make it past login. I did this 15 times - too many times for it to be a coincidence after how persistent the problem had been for me both today and during the server slam.

I dunno whatā€™s up, but I am so happy it works. Blizz, please figure this out. I shouldnā€™t need a 3rd party tool to load the game on supported hardware.

Great news I get in now. But after a little bit of play anytime I open a blacksmith to salvage my items the game instantly crashes. Reproduced numerous times.
Tried a new character - still crashing after a few minutes in game.

My Diablo 4 crashed, afterwards when I launch the game it shows that I enter queue, then it goes through. When the game finishes loading to the main menu, I canā€™t see my character nor can I click start game or any other button. I have to force the game to close using the Task Manager. I have a Radeon RX 6750 XT and my current update on my driver is 23.5.2 for Windows 11.

Also it crashes on older hardware. I got a the following specs

Intel(R) Coreā„¢ i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
GTX 1060 6GB. (temperature idles between 65Ā°C and 70Ā°C)
16GB RAM
WD_BLACK_SN770 1TB NVMe-SSD

And I am using Windows 11

All drivers are up to date

Reinstalling on a different drive worked for me after trying all the rest without success (disabling overlay, changing settings in Prefs file and deleting Prefs file entirely, trying without high res., etc.)

Same issue for me. I tried everything described in the list and other ā€œsolutionsā€ in differente webpages: graphics cards updates, directX, all drivers uptades, run as admin, GPU acceleration, different hard drive,ā€¦ Nothing worked
I hope Blizzard solves it soon, although the early access itĀ“s already been a waste of money for me

Guys I managed to solve the issue thanks to this
First of all, it is recommended that you try making some changes to the ā€˜LocalPrefsā€™ file in the Diablo 4 folder in your documents directory. You need to modify the line DisableChromaEffects ā€˜0ā€™ to DisableChromaEffects ā€˜1ā€™. web in here piunikaweb

Same for me - tried everything, and after copying the game files from my 960evo nvme to a generic hdd, game launches without a problem. If I switch back to the copy on my nvme, the game repeatedly hangs at the ā€˜Logging into Diablo IVā€™ step (red circle freezes, audio glitches, and game crashes - requiring me to kill the process in Task Manager).

Updatingā€¦
Worked after reinstalling in a different drive.
From a nvme Samsung 970 EVO Plus to an old SATA3 SSD.
This is bad software, they need to fix it!

I , like many others seem to have suffered with this issue. Having taken note of peoples suggestions on here I was sceptical at first but eventually took the plunge and moved my Diablo IV installation from my main SSD to my 2nd 2TB SATA drive instead. I then changed the target url on the DiaboIV icon and itā€™s worked a treat. Seems odd that the type of storage media would have such an impact on actually launching the game but hopefully weā€™ll get a more thorough response from Blizzard at some point. I canā€™t help feeling thereā€™s more to it than just storage type.

Iā€™m on Win 11/AMD cpu/Nvidia gpu and doing these 2 things worked for me. Thanks!

I have the same specs, turning wallpaper engine off helped me and it works great now

So this means i SPEND 90 EURO for the GAME and cant play it cause i have only one Harddisk ?

FOR REAL ?

you can try to create another partition on your drive and see if that helps
