ESO is going to lose a huge percentage of its playerbase and sales of Necrom due to Diablo IV and I absolutely love it.
All Blizzard has to do is provide PvP support post-launch and this game will have a huge playerbase for years.

I sit corrected. And mildly disappointed in Blizzard; Battlepasses should not be inextricably linked to Seasons.
No it wonât. PvP in EVERY GAME EVER released has been trash. After the first 2 days, YT/TWITCH will have Meta builds and that is all you will ever see. Even D4, during the BETA, was having META builds just to clear content in hoursâŚNothing EVER changesâŚand PvP in this game will be EXACTLY the same as all the othersâŚgood for about 48 hours, then the HC Meta Number Crunching Jackals will dominate, and everyone will copy themâŚ
Letâs not jump to conclusions. ESO is a very healthy and popular MMO and thrives on console. Current stats across all platforms put ESO at 5 million active players per month. 150k daily.
Diablo 4 will have itâs moment for awhile, but there just isnât enough content compared to a MMO. Blizzard isnât going all in to make Diablo 4 have fresh content like ESO. Apples to Oranges.
This is likely correct. The way D4âs pvp will be is very similar to the Division Darkzone. And you ran metas there and thatâs it. No variety cause you will get crushed if to try making builds yourself. Also, watch Blizzard start tossing nerfs right and left to balance PvP cause some weapon or skill it too powerful. Then watch the community explode. Nerfing my precious pve builds for pvp!
The pvp arena system in D3 that never surfaced was a good system. You had 3v3 arena battles that allowed classes to work off each otherâs strengths, which minimized the need for overly having to balance each class. Sure you could have three Barbs with meta builds try to WW their way to wins, but you run a Demonhunter with range and two WDs with disease, those Barbs are going to have a hard time closing the gaps. (I was fortunate enough to play the D3 Arena through the Blizzcon demo)
ESO will be fine. Itâs a theme park MMO and some chapters are hit or miss for everyone. The new OP class and gear will bring all the people who stopped playing out of the woodwork for a while and when they balance it with the nerf hammer in 6 months people will have a reason to play a couple of seasons here until the next big thing.
In fact D4 is likely my go to game between raids. All Iâve got left over there are a few trifectas and the rest of last years chapter which bored me to tears.
ESO is definitely going to lose a huge portion, but whether Diablo IV can retain those players is a different question.
Zenimax have spurned PvP for years, refusing to release any content whatsoever and the vast majority of end-game PvP players on console have been waiting for a new fantasy gear based game to take its place.
Like in my first post, if that support which is lacking from Zenimax is found with Blizzard, retention will be 100% assured.
Diablo IV comes out June 1st for early access on console, and Necrom comes out June 20th.
It goes without saying that Diablo is going to eat into Necrom sales.
Okay⌠lets do a run downâŚ
Diablo 3⌠seasonal challenges⌠Constant⌠you know objectives you had to do to get meager things.
Diablo 4. seasonal challengesâŚfree bp⌠Has same objectives⌠for meager things⌠gives option to go prem to get a few cosmeticsâŚ
Tell me⌠if you had no rewards from either the free battle pass. or the paid battle pass⌠would you be more likely to play seasons? And get nothing?
Totally missing the point.
The Battle Pass - both free and premium - should progress whether youâre playing a Seasonal character or not. If you want to play your main on Eternal, and grind away at the top-tier dungeons or whatever all Season long, that should still give you things on the BP.
Exactly the point⌠Itâs normal to want character progression. Itâs not normal to force players to restart the game for a battlepass.
Not really⌠they didnt allow you to to continue season journey in d3 after seasons ended, did they? Or am I missing something here?
This is depending upon if the battle pass isnât or not depended upon what is in the seasonâs to be locked to it to begin with. I mean at the end of the day, the game is a live service and Blizzard chose seasons to be the place to advertise the battle pass. Which is from my understanding cosmetic only. This is also included with either the deluxe and or the Ultimate edition.
Leveling up to 100 if a new seasonal character can immediately be able to play Nightmare and or Torment as long as players have accessed to it from eternal servers through the cap stone dungeons wonât be as long as 80 hours. It will be half that or less.
Like the game hasnât even come out yet. Also, we donât know what even the season is. We can assume it is a season like Diablo 3 with a theme that has a minor overall change to the game world but I am expecting something more significant than that.
Blockquote
I do wonder⌠if it didnt have the BP and rewards were still locked to season journey⌠how many people would still complain about it.
Also they did verify that seasons will show off new mechanics and new gear. A new quest to introduce you to the new mechanicsâŚ
Maybe a new small quest line with story. But thats unverified.
Elsewhere, a quote was provided indicating that, yes, it is tied to making a Seasonal character.
Yes, then below that I said
âAt the end of the day, Diablo IV is a live service game and blizzard chose seasons to be the place to advertise the battle pass.â
The point is, there is no âifâ.
The battle pass is tied to playing a new, Seasonal character; Eternal Realm characters do not progress the battle pass tracks.
The point that I was alluding to is we donât know the reason why the season pass is only exclusive to seasons at first. Seasonal content will go to eternal realms after the 3 month time duration. We can make assumptions, but the decision regardless has been made.
Maybe after game launch that can change. We will just have to wait and see. Already with the beta feedback, changes have been made.
I donât want to play seasons so it doesnât force me to create a new character for new content. For those who will write, you donât have to play the season, yes, but I also want to play a normal game with the fact that I will be able to get new content by playing, like in MMO games. And not this Diablo 2 with the new number 4. More people donât like seasons, what nonsense are you writing here.
What? Considering every successful ARPG does seasons, Iâm pretty sure you are in the minority.
Nope just idiots like you who are too stupid to think about whether they are right or wrong.
Wow, would you look at that. You replied to the right person, but the wrong comment like I said multiple times, but for some reason you kept making a big deal out of it instead of just accepting you made a minor mistake. Moron.
How many seasons will people play compared to those who want to play an actual game like an MMO. Donât lie to yourself, because you will have ulcers. After a year Diablo 4 will be like Diablo 2 and 3 and R, dead. Then Blizzard will find out and go the way of MMO Diablo 5, and Diablo 4 will be left with only what is now 2,3,R. KaZeDaRKWIND I recommend you drink less caffeine.
