I’ve had this error since yesterday. Haven’t been able to login yet.
Update scan and repair fixed it and now I’m in.
Finally got in annndddddd I got kicked after trying to make a new character.
Got Disconnected 1 hour ago. Tried scan and repair, restarted the computer and changed the game language, nothing worked for me.
My friend that is in the same room as me, is playing without any issue.
Updating my nvidia driver and setting the PhysX setting in the nvidia control panel from ‘auto’ to my GPU seemed to do the trick for me.
@Arangarx I approve this message. PhysX setting to GPU helped me well. Great job, thanks a lot.
Reboot → Repair → Reboot not work
Same issue here. Scanned, repaired, reinstalled battle.net, rebooted, updated drivers (AMD), nothing. Currently trying to switch languages as one person mentioned to see if that works.
I got logged out the character selection screen and have not been able to log back in since. Receiving the 397000 error and have tried the following:
- Verified my video drivers are up to date.
- Switched my physx from Auto to my GPU
- Tried a repair on the game install
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the game
Lost at what I can do at this point.
Language switch did nothing. I played both this weekend and last weekend without issue until this morning. I have 2 other people in my house playing and their games work fine.
Yep same error here. Played all during the closed beta fine and played Friday and Saturday fine. Played this morning (Sunday Morning) and went to switch characters and thats when the issue started. I have 3 level 25 and one level 17 in the beta so obviously was fine before.
Seems like from what I am reading its when you exit to login screen to switch characters thats causing the issue, or at least one of the ways to cause the issue.
I tried repairing, switching languages, reinstalling, pc resets, Nvidia Control Panel 3D switch and nothing is working.
Sucks because a friend of mine was going to play for the first time today and I was going to run a bard with him.
Same issue, tried all the same fixes not helping…Bliz please fix
Updated my drivers earlier today…
Language switch didn’t work…
Repair didn’t work…
Setting physx to auto didn’t work…
Checking the logs gives me this:

Not sure if the server build version should be the same as the client, but it’s behind:
Server: 0.8.1.39814
Client: 0.8.1.39858
Having the same issue. Considering most of the posts in this thread were from around this time yeasterday, I’d guess they are in the middle of sending an update to the client. When it’s finished, the battle.net client will probably tell us to update.
Nvidia did push out an updated driver for diablo 4 for the 1060, but even after installing it and doing a scan and repair still nothing.
Yeah I had the nvidia updated driver when error occured so I dont think that is part of the issue.
So far I have restarted the PC, adjusted PhysX, updated my graphics drivers, changed the language and reinstalled the game. I am still yet to get back in after the game kicked me out when I went to change characters.
Always error 397000. What’s strange is I have a friend who is currently playing without issue, swapping characters and all. I also couldn’t join said friend when they accepted my request to join. The game would say it has timed out even though they accepted it.
Have him leave the game and see if he can get back in ![]()
I am unable to get into the game due to this error but my spouse can log out and back in without issue.
It seems to be an account thing rather than a hardware thing - my wife was experiencing this problem and hadn’t made 20 yet, so I had her log on my computer to finish up and she experienced the same error. I jumped on her computer, logged on to my account and it went straight to character select no problem. Swapped accounts back, and she got the error. Seems that no matter where we log my account in, it works…and wherever hers is logged in, it fails.
