Diablo 4 shows real ID since season 2. 🔍

Why does the game show my real ID in the clan section?

Thats an absolute nogo in terms of data protection and the worst thing is that I haven’t found any option to turn this off.

In the “streamer mode” setting I can either diasable the option so it shows all my data, or I can “hide my name” but this setting also change my ingame character name.

There’s no option to turn off the real ID only, would be realy nice if you could add this option to the settings.

Because I just want to turn off my real ID name so random clan member don’t know my real name but keep my original character name so people recognize me ingame.

Even if I deactivate the real ID setting in my Battle Net account the game still displays my real name ingame, this shouldn’t be the case and it’s a possible reason to sue the company for breaking data protection laws.

So please give us an option to deactivate the real ID ingame or automaticaly deactivate it when we chose the option in our Battle.net account.

Thank you in advance.

is this real? i thought they’ve had their lesson on that front.
" The Blizzard Real ID fiasco of 2010 "

" In an attempt to prove that there really wasn’t any danger to revealing one’s personal information on the internet — excuse me while I compose my face here — Blizzard Associate Community Manager Micah Whipple freely posted his real name on the forums. This… this did not go well, at least for Whipple and Blizzard. The community took this as a challenge to dig up all sorts of personal information, including addresses and photos, on both Whipple and multiple Activision Blizzard execs."

*maybe there’s nobody around that remembers with all the staff changes over the years heh

I do not believe they can see your ID, as you cannot see theirs.

Either way they still need to fix the display because its longer and messier than previously

They added Streamer mode with 1.2 but they messed up by adding the real name ID to the Battle.net ID in the clan page.

This needs to be fixed ASAP.

This is unacceptable blizzard I went to my clan tab and it displayed my full first and last name to all my viewers. Why is there only an option to obfuscate my Bnet Tag, AND character name entirely OR show my FULL FIRST AND LAST NAME? WTF is this bull

Only your friends can see your Real ID name if the option is enabled. Clan members can’t see it unless they’re you’re friend.

You can turn Real ID off but it’ll still show up on your own screen.

Just to clarify, this is the main thread about the issue here in Tech:

Please post there if you have concerns.

I have fully tested the problem, it seems that only you are seeing your own name in the clan Roster, and other clan members don’t, unless they are your Real ID friend.

So it looks bad, but not completely borked. However they need to address the view for sure.

It only shows it to you. I assume if you had become Real ID friends with someone and given them permission to see it, they can also see it.

I was asked by a friend today to double check this and I could only see my name, and he could only see his - within the guild roster.

Yes, but not without you having it turned on and having shared it with each person you want to see it. If you have not become Real ID friends with someone, they can’t see your name.

You can check your settings in your Bnet account here on the website and make sure your Real ID section is set up (or turned off) the way you want.

Yeah for streamers that seems like a massive issue!!! You will be unable to use your Clan page on your stream screen if that can’t be disabled.

There are more details here in this post:

-My real name or real id is shown in the clan section - #6 by DTMAce-1687

But to clarify, you can disable Real ID here:

But it takes up to 24 hours to take effect.

Have to agree with that one. Yikes. Yeah, they need to fix this, streamer or not. Its an issue for sure.

Will confirm this is my case too. Cannot see Real ID friends name in game clan tab and they can’t see mine either.

You can turn your Real ID off at the Bnet account settings level.

In the battlenet app?

No.

You can hide your friend’s Real ID. Not your own.

However you can go to the website for Battlenet via a click on the upper left battlenet logo in the drop down settings panel. The one that says “Account”. Alternately, you can click on your profile picture next to your battletag the down arrow and click on “Account settings”.

Both of these take you to the Battlenet website that I linked above where you can then change the settings for Real ID.

However it takes up to 24 hours to apply the changes, and apparently not everyone has seen the change take effect or despite being turned off, their name is still showing in their game on their screen.

But again, its not showing up for anyone else.

Yes I meant website from here, I do not really use the app for anything other than to launch the game.

So many people are going to stream their start of season 2 and doxx themselves live on twitch because of this

Yeah I guess it still shows your real id even if you use streamer/obscure mode and even untick it in the account setting. Will have to get used to not opening the clan window or unbinding it during sessions.

maybe they need a new lesson :stuck_out_tongue:
