đŸ”„ Diablo 4's Devilish Dilemmas: My 400h+ Improvement Wishlist

Good write up. This should be a to do list for devs

Yeeeah some of your points are ok but the game really shlouldn’t be balanced around people playing 400+hours in 2 months as much as it shouldn’t be around players that barely completed the campaign by now

I agree with everything on that list, but I don’t think most will be fixed because they are focused on adding new stuff for seasons, for monetization purposes.
In D:I most problems are not fixed and they keep adding new ones with each update. Given the similarity, I suspect this game and D:I are sharing a lot of resources and developers.

Whats hilarious is a lot of this stuff was QoL stuff from Diablo 3 yet people are giving it a pass because “luuuul new game luuuul”. Its a joke.

It wont be fixed because they are incompetent and for some reason are extremely anti-fun. Ive never seen a company so inept. It hurts my soul.

How can you say some ignorant stuff like this?

How are we fortunate when they had a better system in a damned near 10 year old game lol. Ive never understood how they could take so many steps backwards and take away a lot of what made the previous game fun.

Let’s not forget Vulnerable and doing something about it dictating builds, making 95% of your other skill choices obsolete.

Very good write-up. Blizzard needs to replace their designers and hire you instead.

5 classes and they all need vuln dmg, crit dmg, main stat. Lol

Yeah. At this point they should just make Vulnerable have a 20% chance on any attack to proc. It’s just another crit damage bonus stat but requires certain skills to use. Poor development choice. Shouldn’t have even passed testing phase.

god forbid they use more build specific stats from D2 like crushing blow / deadly strike for melee and cast rate / reduce enemy resistances for spell.

let’s water it down and make the same stat work for everything

It’s good work but the biggest issue is that the “end game loop” isn’t fun. I’ve just got to 62 after maxing out renown in all zones and have started running NM dungeons.

Only running +12 at the moment, which is a few levels above me and it’s just not fun. Yay an affix with stuns me if I don’t avoid it, oh another affix where I have to stand in the thing to avoid some damage.
This doesn’t change in the next +88 tiers. This is it

I have all the aspects I need in my bank, just waiting on decent rares to assign them too, so there is literally zero excitement when I get a drop in the dungeon.

They can do a million little fixes to improve the general play but running NM dungeons, doing tree of whispers and Helltides, just isn’t fun. I’m in no rush to hit 100 but I want to be excited for drops, I want to have that moment of baited breath as a boss dies to see a thing drop I need.

Not just grab a tonne of rares and then spend 10 mins after a run reviewing what i’ve got and if anything is worth using.

I loved the game up to 62, story was good, even renown quests were enjoyable, but farming NM dungeons for the next 38 levels
na

Well said, and 100% agree! It’s amazing how I have been saying just about all of this since beta on reddit and just end up get down voted.

IMO the most important things right now are make the world bosses actually hard and rewarding, make the NM t70+ actually worth your time as loot does not seem any better right now, and fix the barb so people dont just quit once they realize it cant compete at end game PvE

I got 66 problems and D4 is one. On a serious note, most wall-o-texts are all over the place. This was well thought out and I agree with most of the points made here regarding the game’s core/qol issues. Well said.

Now if only the devs would start implementing some real changes instead of these filler/mediocre “fixes.” Sorry, but buffing basic skills by 3-4% dmg isn’t going to do it.

  1. Item power level should be tied to the level of mob you are killing, so for each nightmare dungeon level you go up, the min and max power level should increase by 1 (an example). This will give people a reason to do higher NM dungeon levels. I am level 100 for over a week, and my best weapon is level 70.

  2. Have item power level display on the ground so you can pick up just what you are looking for (like over 800)

  3. Drastically reduce enchant costs, after 4-5 tries its just too expensive to keep going. Its fun to keep enchanting, why kill the fun?

  4. Revisit the drop rates of the uber rare uniques (IE grandfather). I played POE for over 5000 hours and never saw a mirror. Once again, that is not fun. The uber rare uniques should drop at least once a week, based on playing 12 hours a day 7 days a week, which I do. All the uniques (as a barbarian) except the amulet are absolute garbage.

Really impressive post

I would love to see lower npc vendor and other gold sink costs (respec, reroll etc)

However raising gold dropped helps too

Levels 1-50 i never once was able to afford any items due to scaling from vendors, what is their purpose?

Edit : loot scaling should be at minimum 1 item point per nm level

Also helltides are fun for me to explore but i find the rewards lacking for the time. Maybe tie it to whispers tree so we get some general reward
. Or I like ops ideas

Edit: i also think we need 3-4 more skill points to get defensive perks. Maybe + 1 at 60/70/80/90/100

Edit: change some dungeon/quest goals to 80-90% completion and small 5% boost for last 10-20%

Edit: make the side quests not “dead weight”

  • holds you back 1-50 even dungeons until you get to wt3
-some aspects are useful if stuck in wt1-2
-i like doing quests now during helltides or other tree events, maybe emphasize white/yellow quests more somehow. For instance all 3 of my friends missed the horse quest that play until way past it

-make stashes a gold sink after season or a way to burn gold with a season pass to have season drops for those of us that want to play this char, or make it somehow worth my time to redo levels 1-50 which was not as fun for me as 50-56

I like the game but think if it had a few months of tuning before release it would have less gamer culture rage

Some of that is due to lack of fun immersive ways to encourage party play, to meet new people. I’d love a “stranger xp non-friends or recent party member” hidden list to get additional drop (+ 5 minimum item tier) or xp boosts or gold, increase challenge rates for parties too is hard). Many of us made gamer friends on steam or battle net games , that is an important part of gamer culture beyond youtube/twitch etc.

I like oldschool UO parties, guilds etc. Maybe if its hard find ways to be part of factions, where major size isnt a huge benefit (easier to party up), key faction towns with different philosophies on how to save us from hell

Thank to the OP for making this list. This is the kind of post we need on these forums. Specific, helpful and useful suggestions that the community can benefit from. Not whinging petty stuff that seems to pull in a lot of traffic and vitriol.

There really be some kind of materials exchange where you can trade X of a certain unrelated item to the apothecary for things that can be used in other areas. That smoothes out the variability in obtaining the rarer items. Maybe they can even be paired with gems so that maybe X gems + Y silver ore can be traded for a prism or something like that. It expands their usefulness. There’s many combinations of things that the dev team can try but it makes even obtaining small (gold) value items a win for players rather than just part of the visual clutter.

Thanks for pointing this out! I was just thinking about this. Like, when an arbalest drops for example, I should be able to say “oh, that’s a better base for my build” than it simply be another transmog type. Maybe x type of weapon is considered a heavy one – but because it’s a different type of heavy weapon, you attack faster than other heavy weapons, etc. Rarity will then impact where and how often these drop, etc. There’s all kinds of fun stuff the devs can try but the aim is to make the game richer/deeper.

I agree with nearly every point in the main post and a lot of the responses. While I did not take the time to read every response I do apologize if this has been mentioned
please add to the list a reference to increased server stability. Just lost a 56 hr hardcore run due to lag only to jump on softcore and experience zero lag. How long has the game been out now? Doesn’t formulate very well in my head as I expect a fraction of players play hardcore that play softcore. Let’s not underestimate the player base that may show interest in hardcore and assign more servers please blizzard

The two points I most agree with are:

Vuln - should not be standalone if in the game at all. Example - Lightning builds to stun / Chill builds to frozen / shadow freakin explodes / burning could build to vuln / poison could build to vuln / bleed could build to vuln with their damage tics and vulnerability overall reduced or it should not be in the game at all. ANY build without a reliable way to exact vuln on an enemy is a gimped build. Play your way remember?

Affixes - I’ve not ran into a build yet that I would consider “at range” and that is said with sorcerer and rogue combining for my most time played
stalling players on a single architype hero due to an overabundance of useless stats is silly. Let’s at the very least bring back primary & secondary affixes instead of the unorganized mess we have now.

The number of situational “increases” feel awful in every moment
the moment you punish a demon and/or the moment you are punished by a demon. “Unstoppable” / “fortified” / “barrier”
was this game designed to be PoE complex? Was it designed for the more casual? Was a memo lost somewhere in between that results in the current simple yet overly unneeded affix system that exists? Do the current number of affixes exist to simply extend the theoretical life of the game? Who knows? But let’s make this b**ch better, shall we? Let us assume the graphics and the aesthetics of the game are perfect
and by assume mean who are we kidding? They are freakin perfect.

Less annoying stuff more fun stuff Blizzard
Do it.

Solid, well thought out points. I may not agree with all of them but you definitely put thought into this.

Which is more than I can say about most on this forum
