If Greater Rift is successful and Urshi has not upgraded any legendary gems, it’s impossible for you to get teleported to town. To end the rift you have to talk to Orek after Urshi is done. It might be an attempt of hack if you haven’t spoke to Urshi even once. In case you spoke to Urshi, it must be an exploit of sorts.
When it cleared to be a hack report it to the support by mailing them, as you aren’t supposed to be forced to town unless you are done with Urshi. If it’s a bug of sorts that can be exploited, please mail the support again. Please share in detail at your report which classes and skills they used also add which areas they teleported to before this happened. Hopefully they can figure out the missing parts when they look at their logs if you can’t remember or tell a coherent story.

I remember such bug from the very old times and apparently it was patched but you can never be sure if new alternatives sprout in time. Just don’t be surprised if you get ignored when you can not give them enough details.
Just a note though, your Seasonal HC barbarian has 723 plvl and has nothing going on at all. All of your artisans seem to level 1 and you killed none of the Act bosses which required for your seasonal journey progress. You said you joined 2500+ plvl peoples game where they supposedly run mid-high Greater Rifts while carrying your weight.
If they opened a GR110-120, I don’t think your now dead barbarian could even handle the combat there. They might have retailated thinking you’re a leech for a high level Greater Rift or a bot player if you haven’t answered or talked even once. Maybe it’s time for you to try Softcore first where you will learn the ropes.
All i’m saying is i took a couple hours and leveled one of my NA account characters from level 1 to like paragon 700 in Hardcore so that i can find these two “clowns” op was talking about and maybe see if it’s true and maybe have a little fun with them. Let’s see how they deal with one of the best players in the game.
Before you have fun whit them. You should investigate, if OPs accusations are true, and not just something OP screwed up along the way, when trieing to loot. Like accidentally hitting a pylon.
I’ve died before in SC whilst in the middle of upgrading gems, the RG spawned an add or something I missed…. I made a post ages ago asking how.
I reckon this has happened to you exactly the same time one of them closed the GR and you got spawned back whilst one of them was just being silly and spamming meteor in town.
From your perspective it looked like the meteor killed you.
I’ve been killed by an RG after effect, depending what it is, it will say Killed by so and so, or killed by unknown. This season, I have seen random monsters arrive after killing the RG, bats and the like or even zombies coming out in the cathederal map.
So if you are picking up your loot it is possible you were killed by something and then the GR was closed, which means you appear dead in town. That’s how they ‘teleport-ed’ you back to town.
Yes. If you are killed by molten explosions after an elite dies, you were slain by “unknown”.
There have been instances in the past where effects can follow you out of the Brawling grounds and then kill you in town. The Brawling grounds are a safe space where you can die and resurrect even in HC, but town is not. So if anything follows you out, you’re toast. I know it’s happened with some DoT abilities in the past, the DoT stayed on the player and killed them as soon as they were in town. It’s also happened with a homing missile attack following a player back to town. A DH rocket or maybe a shot from Blackfeather? Can’t quite remember.
I wonder if it’s something similar here, although I’ve never heard of anything like this happening with a GR.

I don’t believe there’s much to discuss here at this point. OP, it’s very unlikely, or I would say impossible, that you’ll recover this char, but if you want to start another one, I’d recommend against just leeching GRs from randoms like that. Not only there’s risks to that on hardcore (I’ve seen plenty of people drag mobs to people they were PLing in HC just to troll them), but it won’t do you any good. Do the proper progression and build your character so you can farm your own stuff. You’ll find gear much faster if you farm it yourself, gamble shards, use the cube to upgrade yellows, etc, than if you sit and wait for people to drop it for you. And the Paragon you get from this is worthless if your character doesn’t have a proper build in the first place.
That’s all I have to say. Sorry you lost your char, but honestly, you didn’t have anything that you can’t recover in like a day or 2 of gameplay.
