Funny I suggested in one of Free’s threads to make Whirlwind apply Rend with the 2-peices of wastes set.

Free said it was a bad idea.

Wouldn’t it be better to just apply (cast - without the rend animation) rend on hit when you whirlwind and make rend deal the 6 peces set damage bonus too?

Whirlwind is a mobile skill after all you have to be on the move all the time, why stop just to cast rend…?

No. Spenders shouldn’t be cast without their animation, and anyway, that wouldn’t fix the problem with Rend’s negligible damage. Adding Rend to the Wastes 6 bonus is only step 1 of getting it to deal worthwhile damage.

The point of the build was never to endlessly whirl. It was always, from its inception, to gather density, Rend them, and then whirl. Even the Blizzcon preview of the set had that baked into its design.

Now devs added my idea to Ambo’s Pride and suddenly everyone’s using this item and clear highier GRs and as OP mentioned:

I have to give props to the designers on this one, because their Ambo’s design for Rend fixes several issues at once;

1. One second rend resolves quickly and less stress on the server
2. Rend damage is less fishy than WW since it’s not reliant on density, # of targets, and Pain enchancer / Echoing Fury fodder
3. It fixes the WW Barb’s problem of single target since it provides a flat base damage rate against lone elites and RG
4. It opens up gearing options
