Poggu? (new D4 class?)

I am not fan of this retriction. Its okay to have class that can be both genders & any ethnicity. But its also okay to have classes that is only male or female if it fit the lore or single race if they live in isolated locations.

For the most part, there isn’t a class that’s like that especially after the events of Diablo 2.

No class in lore has only 1 gender, Amazons only trained their frmales to fight, men had always existed within their peoples.

Indeed.

Taken from the Diablo 2 manual:

In the Amazon culture, only the women serve as
warriors, their intrinsic superior dexterity and lithe
body structures are better suited to combat in the
dense rainforest environs of the islands. Their society
is far from stratified, however, as men are responsible
for any number of positions in the community, government,
and clergy, as well as merchant and agricultural
occupations.

It is a shame if interesting classes, designs etc. are excluded because they dont fit specific criteria like “must have both male and female versions”. In most cases it should be easy enough to justify a class having both, such as with the Amazons, but if for some reason it isn’t, that also shouldn’t be a hindrance.

Blizzard seem to mostly care about this from a cosmetic point of view, offering different character designs.
But the weird thing there is, they could nearly have the exact same character designs for an Amazon class with 1 or 2 genders. We already have seen those bad takes about the D2R Amazon…
You could have “tomboy” Amazons, etc. With different character designs, but all being technically women. Allowing players to pick between the same different designs that they would have otherwise.
Seems unnecessary to limit your design because of this.

Honestly, when it comes to classes/groups that used to be genderlocked, the D4 version of the sorceress and rogue classes handled it best imo for explaining how these classes removed the limitation.

For example sorceresses are generally members of the Zann Esu Clan, a female clan of mages. However in recent time, the Zann Esu Clan, along with the Vizjerei Clan and few other mage clans, came together to form the Yshari Sanctum, which thus became a place to train mages of various clans. As such the Diablo 4 sorcerer and sorceress could very well be a member of this sanctum while also a member of either the Vizjerei or Zann Esu Clan respectively.

Now while the developers had stated that no class would be genderlocked, I wouldn’t have an issue with it, if by lore the abilities are only available to that specific gender. Thus far, there’s no class like that.

Even in Diablo lore, only women are warriors in Amazon tribe.
Blizzard will have to find a good story to change the lore and turn farmers, shepherds, government officials, merchants, priests, etc, into warriors.

I would not lose any sleep if they bypassed the amazon altogether and gave us all new classes.

They already did with D3 RoS. At the start of RoS, Malthael sent his reapers to attack every major city. That would include Skovos Isles, the Amazons home, and of course to defend their home, it would be mostly the female Amazon warriors fighting on the frontlines, and as such suffering casualties as well. Then near the end of RoS, Malthael used the black soulstone to wipe out about 90% of humanity’s population, which of course would include the Amazons. So with Skovos Isles losing a good deal of their population as well as warriors, as well as another great evil creeping in, that would be plenty of reason for the Askari people to change their ways and start having their men fight alongside their women.

I wouldn’t either. At same time, I also wouldn’t lose any sleep if Blizzard did the opposite and brought in the Amazons alongside male counterparts and simply changed the name of the group.

What’s to stop them from calling Males of the Amazon clans something besides Amazons?
Not that we need that class back mind you.
I think the rogues have already filled that role anyway!

I definitely would like a spear user to play, it doesn’t even have to be the Amazon. In fact, I’d even prefer a new class.

Well, every weapon that drops in-game should have a specialist to use it.

are there spears dropping?

That’s kind of what I’m saying. I’d like for there to be a class that either specializes in spears, lances, polearms, halberds, and/or glaives; or has skills that make use of said weapons.

In one of the clips from a D4 blog you can see a large statue of Inarius with what looks like a polearm.
Does the lore give any information about his weapon? Did it have any special ability of power?

i don’t think even if there was, a lore related weapon gives hints to ingame stuff. no battle mage tyrael swords :frowning:

As far as I know of, none. However, considering that he was an Archangel, it’s likely that Inarius did have a special weapon. That said, whether we learn it’s name or not will remain to be seen. For example, I don’t believe we ever learned the name of Malthael’s sickle weapons.

I think spear is still the trademark of Imperius.

The Templar in D3 also used one.

I think Lolli42 was talking about angels. That said spears and swords seemed to be the primary weapons for most angels. So if Inarius’s primary weapon were a spear, I wouldn’t be surprised.
