New Trailer - Same Models

It’s just pixels

You are correct! If you don’t like the pixels the way they are intended then refund is available!

Wow… so those of you that complained about the models didn’t get your way and now you’re threatening to refund. I’m sorry, but grow up.

You’re not going to spend more than a few seconds looking at your character in the character select screen, and when you do, your character is going to be decked in gear and likely have a helmet on that covers most of, if not all of the face.

The level of shallow you need to be to demand your characters sexuality to be that of your personal liking is and take precedence over more pressing matters is quite frankly pathetic.

I get it, you think the models should represent that of the original, but your interpretation of what they looked like is just that, your own interpretation - which is to say, not fact.

Low polygon count and limited texture modeling does not equal realism and therefore Vicarious Visions did the correct thing and brought them in line with what a real warrior or a real spell caster would look like in a world torn asunder.

I said it in a previous post - nobody is going to look like a 18-28 year old girl with a smoking hot body in a world like that of Sanctuary. Sorry.
You can argue that it’s high fantasy and that you have certain liberties with storytelling but who are you to say that you know exactly what Brevik and his team’s original intent was when they designed the Amazon and Sorceress with technological limitations of 1999-2000?

Again, why do those in favor of bad models automatically assume if there is any criticism of said models, it’s because we want to F the pixels?

Because if you truly didn’t care about sexualizing them, you wouldn’t be making these posts. They look good enough to be a warrior or a spell caster and still represent their gender. If you have a problem with that, it’s sexually biased through and through.

The fact anyone thinks the Amazon looks like a man is spewing misogynistic nonsense. Amazonian women aren’t known for their looks, they’re known for standing amongst and often before man as equals or superiors in combat and they aren’t achieving that with pencil thin bodies and super feminine faces. Face the facts.

I think it all looks fantastic and I can’t wait until the beta opens up.

Great job, VV!!!

Youre sayin some lol stuff dude.

On page 38 of the D2 manual is the Amazon full body art. Theres not even any guesswork on what she looks like. There it is. Full face and body. The D2R Azn looks nothing like that or the D2 OG.

In the lore, Isendra the Sorc is like 18 years old when she goes to the Rogue encampment and rescues Cain. All the characters are supposed to be young like that. The D2R is old it just doesn’t fit. You can’t even compare.

The lady that did the voice acting for Azn is young and sounds young - the D2R model looks old dude. You cant even compare it just doesn’t match up.

Correct. The art looks the way it does to match that which they had at hand for the model in the game’s character creation. Im almost certain it wasn’t because that’s what they wanted them to look like.

For the record, women’s vocal cords aren’t the same as men. They can sound very young all the way up until their 80’s. So this doesn’t stand, at all.

Dude everyone’s argument against these designs are because of the large deviation from the original art, lore, and liberty VV took with these character models, when they alledged faithful recreation of the world down to the hanging garlic that they referenced. Based off the brilliant work they did with the environments, npcs, and monsters, one can only infer they intentionally changed the character designs or had an intern working on them. All of the characters are bad looking, but the Amazon is the worst offender and as such gets most of the attention…

Get off your moral superiority complex, I don’t want to F the polygons.

Look at what you wrote dude. Your sayin the models look like they do because it wasn’t what they wanted them to look like. That’s crazy - these are talented pro artists that can make things look like what they want them to look like. The truth’s more like they had an agenda that wasn’t about making the game authentic with characters.

In the D2 manual the Azn is described in the text that she’s tall and lithe. The D2R one is short and stocky.

There’s no getting around that the D2R model is not authentic and that’s why so many people are angry because those guys made the garlic more authentic than the characters.

i am a bit surprised they haven’t fixed this yet. as it seems to be the only unanimous change the community as a whole wanted and could agree should be fixed. ( the amazons age anyways).

im also not a big fan of the assassin face at the loading screen, i dont mind her being asian… i just wish they kept her closer to the original face “structure” wise.

im excited to get my hands on beta.
i do want the amazon’s face fixed for sure.
but i dont feel it needs to be done “at release”. i mean granted it shouldn’t take as long as it already has to be done… but blizzard isn’t really one of those studios that respects the “don’t crunch, its horrible for you employee’s health” so i can kinda understand as to why it might be lower priority.

nor have they been especially well known for their ability to “read the room”
cough cough bizzcon 2018

I’ve said what I’m going to say and I’ll be leaving now. I’m not here to argue with people clearly struggling with misogynistic world views on females that can’t accept that not everyone looks like their girl next door.

All the claims that “this is not how they were intended to look” is nonsense. You do not know what the devs intended and clearly do not understand the perception based idealism behind the limited tools available at the time this game was created.

That is to say they worked with what they had and built off it.

They could only do so much to make the character resemble a female that didn’t detract from one by adding too many unnecessary features that could inversely effect the model beyond what they intended.

To get a female model to look “more” feminine with the available tools of 90’s game design, you had to exaggerate a little bit. A la larger breasts or a more curvy body.

Blizzard North was but a wee band of very lucky beginner game designers. That isn’t to discredit them in any way because they were good at what they did but by no means does it absolve them from the limitations of their tools of the time.

/end

Have fun complaining about something that will not change. I am proud of VV for not buckling to this SJW/sexist drivel.

Dude - they had all kinds of OG art and stuff that made it super clear what Azn looked like way before they did the D2R model. They just decided to not do Azn authentically and people are upset. It’s like killin off one of your fave TV characters or somethin and replacing with a totally different one.

Just in case youre a noob with D2 from the past you can see just what she looks like in this pic.

It cracks me up how you keep sayin the D2R artists didn’t want authenticity when that’s all they talked about in the deep dive interview with most of the art. Thats why its clear as day they had an agenda with these character changes that isn’t based on gaming or being authentic.

I’m willing to bet the naysayers here probably never even played the original, we’re introduced to the game this year during announcement, and are just trying to force their 2021 “sensibilities” on everyone…or just plain trolling.

ngl those old pictures just show me that the old pics of the amazons were a lot uglier than i remember… XD
i still think she is way to OLD looking but based on those pics i can kinda see why she has those terrible boney cheeks.
based on those pics her new model doesn’t seem as off as i originally thought it was XD

OG Azn was

young like 18 yrs old in the lore
in the manual they had her in a paragraph = tall and lithe
the voice in the game is young with energy

New D2R Azn is

a grandma
Not authentic to lore
Not authentic to the lady that voice acted her
Looks nothing like the old one
Looks low-energy

Nothing about the new one makes any sense for the game lol.

i mean yeah she looks terrible, and i want it fixed but i generally thought of her as her char selection model which isnt horrible… a lot of those pics were.

i dont know wtf blizzard was thinking… but i can kinda see if they went of that old art how they got into this mess.

why they didn’t go off the the in game model i’ll never know but… im just saying those old pics were pretty terrible XD

I’m not saying this doesn’t need to be fixed. I’m saying that art is worse than i remember.

Whatever helps y’all sleep at night lol.

You go get your refunds over a character model, the rest of us will be over here playing and enjoying the game regardless. rofl.

Haha! That’s the thing, she’s not really a beauty to me. Like other guys think she is a beauty and ok that’s cool too but I don’t think of her like a beauty. It’s more about her youthful personality and the D2R one is so bland looking with no spark.
