New Trailer - Same Models

I dont even know what gender the Barb is, not quite what i look at while I’m enjoying my games.

I will buy extra copies to cover your loss to blizzard.

The new trailer models could still have been used from alpha. We will have to wait and see if they re worked them or not. Beta we will know for sure. If they choose to keep the alpha models well it would just re enforce why Blizzard is bleeding its player base.

Couldn’t agree more

Im so stoked i bought it for ps5 and PC!!

Haha

Let’s not be disingenuous; the character models for D2R are designed to be more inclusive than the original models were, no more, no less. The assassin, represented in game to a degree by the NPC Natalya, always seemed to me to be an Eastern European…which falls in line with the Monk from D3, who shares many character similarities with the D2 Assassin.

The Amazon…yeah, I don’t think the new model is a striking beauty, but I really don’t care…it just seems like such a silly thing to expend energy on.

And that is really the crux of the whole thing, no? Why do you care? Why is it so important that this particular detail be discussed ad infinitum? You’re playing a game made of fictional characters. And fiction such as video games, comic books, film series, are very open to interpretation by the artist…heck, look at painters; Picasso’s art depicted the human body in incredibly unusual fashions, but there weren’t demands for him to re-envision his art to more realistic standards (were there? I’m no art historian). In that same vein…

Superman and Batman could be depicted as Black or Asian.
James Bond could be a woman (The names Bond. Jane Bond.)

Now, if you want to argue that substantive change to source material, whatever medium it encompasses, when driven by sociopolitical pressure, is not the same as an artist re-imagining for their own creative process, it’s a fair point. And while it is cynical to always assume that changes like these are driven solely by those pressures, it can’t be ruled out either.

But it isn’t really important (to me, at any rate) if the VV team wanted to be more inclusive as part of their artistic philosophy, or if they are bowing to real or imagined pressure to be inclusive, for specific markets or to avoid criticism, because we are still talking about fictional characters, in a fictional setting.

But people need to realize…the times, they are a-changing, and the old road is rapidly fading, so don’t be surprised when you’re asked to get out of the way if you can’t lend a hand. (Apologies to Mr. Dylan)

Peace.

This, honestly anyone who would even consider refunding because of characters faces or model isnt true D2 fan because true fans who played countless hours do care about gameplay. Not about assassin looking as asiain or not.

I highly doubt it’s even all about inclusivity. For all you know, it could be a move to try and make the game more appealing to the Asian market… as in not inclusivity for the sake of inclusivity, but inclusivity for the sake of more profit.

I care, because I know and remember what many of the original models and attires were referencing.
A lot of the things in Diablo were designed based on the Xena Warrior Princess show from back in the 90s. Even the D3 monk is based on that… as in, even Jay Wilson, for all his flaws, even he understood what the art direction should have been like:

The same goes for the rogues and the amazons from the previous games.

The current Amazon is clearly inspired from Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, clearly referencing the character of Antiope, played by Robin Wright.

And while I absolutely love that character, actress, directors and so on, I’d still prefer the original. I don’t like when art gets changed.

But is it really the artists themselves re-imagining their own creative process?

Given the history when it comes to Blizzard North and Blizzard South, I’d say the D2R devs should be more respectful of whatever art the original artists from Blizzard North had in mind.
One would think, that actual Diablo fans and gamers would care about that sort of thing rather than “sociopolitical pressure”, “inclusivity” and things like that… but apparently not.

By all means, do explain how the times are changing… how exactly…

And seriously… “Get out the way”?!
I mean, one would think, that D2 fans shouldn’t have to get out the way when it comes to a freaking remaster where they should be the target demographic… but I guess not…

People seem to forget that they said it would be 70/30 or 60/40 on the art. So not everything was going to be 100% the same as the original.
This is clearly part of the 30% or 40% which differs. If you hate it so much its going to ruin your experience, then get a refund.
If it don’t dislike the change enough to refund then get over it and move on. You will hardly ever see the facial detail after you are geared up.
Personally I prefer my characters to look more “worn”. I want them to look like people who have been through hell and come out the other side.
So overall I’m fine with the art direction they have taken.

Why is this so spot on? I legit believe this is the reason they are doing this.

I will be very disappointed that the model(s) are not update.

But there is a MUCH BIGGER concern. That is, that Blizzard stop caring about gamers feedback, & no respect for the lore of the franchise.

The Blizzard skill looks different though. Way more important than some faces, I will never see while playing.

Diablo II: Resurrected is going to be a great game.

But. . .

Diablo II: Resurrected could be much greater If they fixed the faces on Amazon and Paladin. Make Amazon less man and more feminine, also made Paladin less black and more dark brown.

Then why bother make anything look good?
Buy an ugly house, because you’re “not going to spend more than a few seconds looking at” it from the outside because you’ll be indoors most of the time.
Buy an ugly car because you’re “not going to spend more than a few seconds looking at” it from the outside because you’ll be indoors most of the time.
Don’t bother showering, getting a haircut, brushing your teeth, getting nice clothes and so on, because you’re “not going to spend more than a few seconds looking at” yourself anyway.

Hell, just make the entire starting screen and interfaces look like Windows 95 because they’re so secondary and you’re “not going to spend more than a few seconds looking at” them. Who cares about making things look good, right?

Just as a side note: you’re saying that a fantasy game, set in a fantastical theme, has to somehow be super realistic? Get real.

As for “technical limitations”, as far as I’m concerned, character design with a sheet of paper and a pencil back in 2000 is still around today. Look at the concept art if you want the real idea of Brevik’s direction and you’ll see that the Amazon (amongst others) doesn’t look like what VV made it out to be in D2R so far. Even the Diablo 1 rogue concept art is miles away from D2R.

Yeah they’re weird man, but mostly just trolls. Guess we should just make D2 look like the 1980’s Oregon Trail game stick figures. That’ll satisfy those scared of pretty pixels.

I really can’t understand all the hate towards the amazon and assassin models. So what if they don’t look exactly like the original art work? That’s the dumbest reason ever to ask for a refund. You can’t even see their face 90% of the time anyway with a helmet on.

The fact that people are upset that the assassin is Asian and “should be white” just sounds racist to me. Fine, she was white in the original, but how does changing that affect anything other than your precious racist feelings? Adding other races other than just using all white people is a good thing imho and does not effect the game at all in the slightest.

So the amazon was younger and prettier in the original, but how does changing that affect anything other than your misogynist feelings? There are plenty of people who look older than they are, and we’re talking about an amazon woman who has seemingly been in battle before.

How many of these people complaining happen to be white males? I’m just curious.

Na. This line is tired. People tried to use it when Disney tried to make black The Little Mermaid a thing too. It’s stupid, not everyone who wants cultural icons to remain the same going forward is racist.

so is it then also racist to say the paladin has to be dark skin and should never become white ? i know its not the case, but just putting that in as a counter argument. everone wants the paladin to be dark skin. Why ? because it was the same as in original, thats it. and so the same applies for assassin to be rather white, no racism at all …

why not make a blue Diablo instead of a red diablo, following the same “racist” argument. poor blue diablo wants to be recognized aswell …

I would question why you’re so invested in the race of a fake creature though…

It’d be like someone being upset that they made a Cinderella movie with Brandy. (A black woman)

No problems with how the models are here. From watching the recent gameplay, they have been touched up and the animation is better, which is fine for me.

I’ll get attacked for this b/c its the way it is nowadays, but what does VV stand for?

People were upset, which is perfectly fine and doesn’t need to be racist. Were some racists upset? sure. But not all people that were upset were racist.
