thanks Tias… it is already 2024.0.10.107…
as for the cabling portion, i’ll have to see the advice of the cabling guy, if the cables are already in-built or i will have to do new in-wall cabling.
but what i don’t understand is, i got my ROG system 2 weeks ago, playing in the USA region on my old monitor and everything was great. Then suddenly i got a new bigger monitor and suddenly something goes wrong…? it would be strange that a new monitor would cause the latency to go up right? what kind of latency rates do u guys experience?
The display won’t cause latency like that. You have the correct driver, your system appears to be up to date, so that shouldn’t be an issue. If you still have the old monitor, you can try plugging it into the new system you’re currently using and see if the lag goes away when connected to the NA region, but I doubt it will. Give that a try and see what happens. That will eliminate one variable from the equation.
You want latency below 100ms, ideally below 50ms. But since you’re in Singapore and connecting to the NA region, expect average latencies of 150-400ms depending on network traffic and/or issues.
Unless…
For some reason the new monitor is interfering with the wifi card. In which case, switching to a network cable should eliminate that.
I’m still not understanding this.
You have direct access to your router/internet device correct?
All you need is a cable long enough to go from that box to the back of the computer. There is no need to have it put in the wall unless for some reason there is no way to run a cable physically or safely between the router and the computer.
My desktop has a hardwire. But I have wireless options as well if I need to use them. (like when my DSL goes out and I want to connect via my phone hotspot)
And due to my older Asus eXtreme n network card that’s installed in a slot directly below my GTX 980, if I try to run full screen video while using that wifi card, it will literally freeze my screen. Sometimes it will even just using the internet in general.
In my case, it boils down to an interference between those two cards. The 980 doesn’t like my wifi card and causes the system to freeze. I had to go to an external adapter to get around it if I want to use a wifi connection. lol
Anyway.
Good luck, time for bed for me.
HAHAH
I wish my latency in D3 was that low. I average 100-150 and that’s completely playable. I have problems when it goes over 200. But it will run below 50 in OW consistently.
If I recall correctly, you live closer to the D3 servers Tias?
I live in the SF bay area, so yes, much, much closer to the LA server cluster than most players. The only real hiccup I’ve had in the last ten years is the Sunnyvale node on the Comcast backbone, which used to spike to 5000ms every five seconds (creating ten seconds of no packets going through). But they fixed that three years ago after I nagged their Tier 3 regional tech.
It may also be that his wi-fi card is using a different channel spread and/or frequency block. Recommended blocks used to be 20 MHz, but now 40 MHz is fine in the 5 GHz band, though if he’s not in a densely populated area in terms of wi-fi users, he could leave it at the 80 MHz default.
I suspect the real culprit here is that the wi-fi card’s settings do not mirror the router’s settings, in which case he’s going to have either overlap issues or gap issues (or both depending on whether the card is connecting to the router’s 2.4 GHz band or the 5 GHz band).
sorry, guess i wasn’t clear enough. what i meant was, my network point with router & modem are in my passageway cabinet. my gaming location is in my study room, so technically although i’m only like 5m away, i can’t use a long cable and run it from my desktop to my modem… so will have to do in-wall cabling if i want wired internet…
Well that sucks. On the plus side, wired would eliminate the wi-fi from the variable and give you a far more consistent latency. Short of changing your computer’s wi-fi settings to match your router’s settings, you probably won’t see much improvement at the moment as this does appear to be a wireless issue.
tot you slept already Tias…! up so late?
by the way, how would i go about matching my wifi settings with my router’s settings? any simple way of getting it done?
Sleep? What’s that?
You’d need to log into the router and check what the settings are in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. How to do so varies by router. Then you’d need to go back into the Device Manager as noted before, but this time you’d right click your wi-fi card’s name on the list and select Properties, and see what those settings are. Compare them and any that don’t mach (channel width primarily) you can change to match. It’s really the channel width you want and whether your wi-fi card is auto-delegating channel assignments or manually. Auto is almost always best.
I’m afraid I can’t be extremely specific since I have no wi-fi in this machine. My router is literally 1.5m from the computer and is thus using a wired connection. None of my devices are using wireless since my router has eight ports.
But you can try following the instructions found here. Start with the Network troubleshooting on your device section and if that doesn’t make things better, check the settings using the instructions in the Advanced troubleshooting steps section (but ignore the forget a network section - you don’t want to do that). Wireless networks are definitely more of a hassle to troubleshoot than wired ones. Wired is almost always literally just plug and play.
Note: When you see your cabling contractor, do not let him try to sell you “Cat 7” cables. They’re a myth. They don’t exist. There is no Cat 7. The ISO skipped the Cat 7 proposal and went straight to Cat 8, which is still being developed. You want Cat 6a cabling. 6m is a common spool length, so you should be able to get that easily.
Are you playing on PTR? That would explain lag.
Hi Pe3eWe3e… sorry what’s PTR?
It is Public Test Realm. New patch was deployed on test servers not a long time ago. So I thought you might be playing there.
Oh… no i’m not playing on that. Its a private game i’m playing on…
Your latency is high because you’re connected to the wrong server, since you’re in Singapore you have to connect to the australian server (don’t worry, it will still be NA region), you have to use this code in your launcher:
OnlineService.Matchmaking.ServerPool=AU1
