Nerf Enigma and Grief

Pretty sure the game still exists just fine. If nerfing a single item destroys a game, there is a problem. The fact this mindset is so prevalent is a bit sad to me. It’s fine to not want change, it’s fine to covet these runewords. However to go to the extreme of it destroys the game if you balance them is… silly.

I disliked 1.10 runewords when they came out, particularly as a PvPer. I complained then, I can complain now. These broken runewords were thrown out at the end of a development cycle, little care was given to balance. Now that the game is being given new life, new focus, I don’t think it is bad to think back to balance.

As someone said above, maybe we can have experimental ladder seasons.

Lmao - we want D2, not D3 or D4.
Cooldowns are the worst thing we’ve had in D3 and will have in D4 imho.

I truly hope Blizzard don’t take these comments seriously and stick to what they said which is REMASTERING D2 and not REMAKING D2.

Then just remove teleport from it and replace it. I mean removing it was my initial thought, adding a cooldown was merely a compromise.

Make it cost double or triple mana instead then.

No one forces anyone to use either enigma, grief or any other of the available runewords, feel free to choose your build and let others be free to choose their. This is a diablo 2 remaster, not a random diablo 2 mod, gameplay must remain untouched.

Then are you in the camp of no shared stash? No charm inventory? No loot filter. Let’s face it loot filter is a gameplay change when everyone is fighting to pickup loot but the filter will help you pin point the best loot to snipe.

Who says things must not change, who made that rule?

Removing teleport from enigma would be the worst possible change they could do in this remaster. This is D2, not a remake.

That’s why I said Grief should have another rune added to the recipe instead of a lower one.

Either way, BOTD is still really good for PvM and reduces the need for having leech from other sources.

Uniques are not meant to be the endgame. I’m sure if Uniques/Sets were strong you’d be complaining they’re too strong for what they are.

There are situations where a really good Eth/Cruel/Fools mod weapon would be better than a perfect Grief pb or zerker as well. That’s also another thing, after a month or two, if you make a Grief and the % is low, nobody will want it and you will have to use it yourself or reroll to try and get a good one.

Endgame items are Runewords and Rares. As it should be.

I hope! I fear they would keep it for the server load benefit. And then claim its a good feature because it mirrors D2LOD (terrible argument imo).

That is incorrect. Lots of uniques are endgame. Rares only on certain amus, rings, tiaras mostly.

The problem is that RWs are simply not balanced compared to uniques. It is called powecreep. Just take a medium melee RW like OATH. It costs nothing at all, yet it surpases most uniques with ease. Why? It takes ages to find good melee uniques like stormlash or schaefers. Drop chances are ridiculously low compared to some runes. Yet, due to powercreep induced by runes, they cannot compete.

Another great example is SPIRIT. Costs absolutely nothing and kills like 60 items in the game instantly. Great stuff. Reducing the amount of equal options in D2. The RW balance needs adjustment.

nah then the sorc would just be more op

Some of us play solo private games and have for 20 years. Did mostly the same on D1. Of course there were friends we’d play with too, but publics? No thanks!
And yes I’ve made ladder chars that get below 200 on the list doing solo runs only

You must be one of those guys that thinks Shako is the best helm in the game. It’s top for PvM, but it falls off in PvP. Which is what Diablo II endgame is.

Right now there are a couple unique items that are endgame, and these are situational, and need to be near perfect to even breathe next to end-game rare/crafted items.

  • Crown of Ages (which must be 2os with perfect DR/Res)
  • Gore Riders (which must be upped to 213 defense Myrmidon Greaves if you want 100% perfect)
  • Arachnid Mesh (mostly used for the 20 fcr to hit breakpoints)
  • Stormshield
  • 40-15 Verdungo
  • 250-20 Raven Frosts
  • Hotspurs/Dwarf stars
  • 30% Death’s Fathom
  • 20-15 Griffon’s Eye (Limited only to certain Lightning builds)
  • 60% ED Steelrends
  • Perfect upped 220% Shaftstop
  • 200% Perfect upped defense Arreat’s Face
  • Bloodfists
  • Magefists

Sets:

  • Angelic Amulet/Ring setup for massive AR/decent life.

There’s probably a couple more out there that aren’t mentioned, but these pop up to the top of my head right now as of this moment.

This is incorrect. First of all, well-rolled Crafted Caster Amulets are the best, since they are the only type which can spawn 19-20% fcr on them, which some builds desperately need to reach breakpoints. Rares are 2nd best.

Rare rings and Blood Rings with 10% Fcr and stats/res/life are unmatched. Sometimes they need AR on them too for BvC’s (barb vs caster).

Circlets/Tiaras/Diadems are absolute endgame and they make everything else fall behind. Even Griffon’s Eye will have trouble catching up to a Circlet with 2+ skills, 20 fcr, str/dex/res/life and 2os. Some of them even have Visionary mod, which you cannot find on any unique helmet in the game.

There are also cases for Druids/Barbs where you will find a Druid Pelt that has 2+ Druid, 10 FHR, 3+ Tornado, 3+ Summon wolf, 2os or a Barb helm with 2+ Barb, +3 Battle Orders, Visionary mod, Life, and 2os. These are top-tier for most situations but they will be swapped out for a 20 FCR circlet if the player wants to switch to certain breakpoints.

You can find Assassin claws with 2+ Skills, 3 Lightning sentry, Fools, Cruel mod, Ias, and Eth. These are top-tier for assassins and are ridiculously expensive.

You can find Eth weapons with 40 Ias, 300+ Ed, fools mod, 2os with repair durability that will $*$@ on even Grief in some situations. These are highly sought-after for that reason.

There are boots in the game with 30% FRW, 10% FHR, and Tri-res, which are also highly-sought after and nothing can compare to them in 90% of situations.

Crafted Blood Gloves which can have 20 IAS/Crush Blow/Life/Str/Dex, or if needed; +2 Bow/Jav skills.

Crafted Caster Belts with smaller fcr amount than Arachnid, but has multiple other useful mods such as FHR/Life/Res.

The thing is with Oath, you need to find a good base for it, and it has to be 4os and Eth for you to get the most effectiveness out of it. You will not find a 4os Eth Small Crescent/Ettin/Berserker Axe on the first day, I guarantee you.

But then again, this is just what Melee is. Melee builds are the most gear-dependent builds in the game by far. If you start out as a Melee character, this is what you have to understand and deal with. As it was your choice.

Did you even read my post? This is exactly what I said about Spirit. See, you and others are crying about Enigma, but Insight and Spirit are far more broken at the core. The fact that you can also make a Spirit in a 45 All res Paladin shield is hilarious.

Now, Spirit has a place in the game because many caster builds rely on it for the 55% FHR and 35% Fcr for breakpoints at this point in the game.

I think they should make Spirit need a different higher rune to make, and make the Fcr range chance to roll 20-35% instead. But they won’t do that and I’m fine with it either way.

Sorry if you think Pvp is endgame. That is your opinion.
Diablo 2 is a PvM game with pvp built in as a feature, nothing more😀. Crazy crazy unbalanced for pvp, no pvp areas, etc.

Yes some people enjoy it nevertheless. Have a nice day.

Kinda pointless post, they aren’t going to do these kind of changes. Nor should they.

Diablo 2 actually has the best PvP from any modern game in the genre.
For many people pvp is indeed endgame. And It’s not that unbalanced.

“no pvp areas”, the whole game can be a pvp area lol

As a 90% pvm player, i have to tell you that pvm is not endgame. Pvm is easy, you dont need end game gear to pvm fast.

PvP is endgame. Every single stat point, every single dmg point matters in pvp, while it does not matter in pvm, that is why pvp is endgame and pvm is not.

Almost 99% of the endgame items would have close to zero impact in pvm when you replace random gear with them.

Thank you for being honest. +1 to you, sir.

Let the game release at first, please!

Then you shouldn’t get the drops. The cold reality of older games, ESPECIALLY D2, is that you have to put the time in (or RMT) and there’s no way around it.

Stop feeding the troll.
