LOOT drops - How to make the game experience better

Explain me in what way free drop is competitive, how someone living next to the servers with 20 ping versus someone living 100km from there with 60 ping is competitive. Then how is it competitive when you have someone using an auto picker. Tell me how competitive it is. Diablo 2 is a hard game in the sense of you need to farm hours and hours to get good gear making the drop private wont change that aspect since you get the same chance of getting the loot as if you played alone. The only aspect is the unfairness of who has better ping and who uses ranged sorc vs barb.

I only read about 1/2 this thread, but didnā€™t see anyone mention that private loot will decrease the rarity of items amongst players because 1x kill now = 8x loot drops (in a full game).

This seems like a terrible idea. The entire loot table would need rebalancingā€“potentially crafting recipes as well.

Not really. You are assuming that.
Making a kill does not have to give an item to everybody. There are pretty standard methods to distribute things fairly, even when not everyone gets a piece on each iteration.

The common principle of the pLoot suggestions should (and usually is) that the drop rates themselves remain the same.

People here are comparing it to D3, which each individual got their own set of drops.

I did that.

Sorry for the irritation. What i meant was just that players should get their own partition of the loot (option on game-server creation). The loot itself would still be the same, but each item would simply be accessable by only 1 player (maybe with a small timeout until it becomes FFA).
That way everyone has a fair chance to 1/8 (8 player game) of the loot. The items are the same, just the window of opportunity to pick them up is either long or stays open until the item is picked up.

Pretty sure, maybeā€¦ Something else?

Not 1% of the loot is competitive. The loot you get in multiplayer is competitive.

Lol, D2:LoD? Really?

And many of those games have the ploot option, theyre not exclusively FFA. So not the same as D2 - which includes LoD, wowza. Cant do a whole blash overanalysis here, I simply cant thumb forums for that long.

Ive been supportive since the first posts on this board of a separate realm for deep changes if Blizz feels it must introduce them - as opposed to making every D2 game toggleable, which I think would mess with the original feel. Separate realm, separate community, sure. But I think itā€™d be a really unnecessary risk for Blizz to take, especially considering D2R has only ever been promised as a simple resurrection of D2.

How ploot may influence drop rates down the line as people dont like not having a chance to receive anything multiple boss runs in a row is pretty hard to predict. Does Blizz want to try to sort out the inevitable issues introducing a whole new system brings? If they do, just do it on a very separate realm plz.

I think they have no great reason to though. D2R has always been marketed as bringing back D2. If someone doesnt like D2, why would they play D2R? No other game out there like D2 sailor blash - itā€™s quite unique.

Pretty sure as in ā€œthey kept the door open for QoL changes in every public announcementā€, but maybe there are 1 or 2 where they forgot to place that sentence.
They definitely did not say no to anything. Their common wording was ā€œlistening to player feedbackā€.

Which, as stated by others makes up for 1% of the valuable loot that players are getting.
I am just taking your words for it.

Join a clan, make friends, your arguement makes no sense this isnt diablo 3. If you like how diablo 3ā€™s loot system works go play that instead. Diablo 2 has always worked like this and its the best loot system. Either you pay attention and stay close to get loot or you dont get any. If u want to focus on gameplay and loot make a private game with password and youā€™ll get all the loot. Public games are pubs intended to just get exp or do quests with people. Stop trying to be selfish and ruin the game for us all because you dont like it.

No. Why dont you join your FFA clan? And make FFA friends? Why do i have to play in a special way because you dont want me to enjoy the game? Pretty selfish of you.
Also why do you push me to D3? why dont you just stay in D2? You like that argument? Cuts both way, friend.
Also this is not D2, it is D2R.
Iā€™d rather have pLoot in it.

D3 didnā€™t invent that

So by others or by me? I have to admit you have some talent in confusing me.

And why would they do that? Could it be that it is the superior, fairer and more accepted system? Why would we not want to have something like that (as an option) in D2R?
Itā€™s like buying your new car as a lead burner just because you had a car 20 years ago with the same technology. Oh, and ofc forcing everybody else to drive it as well. (Drive behind you actually)

Separate realms sound like a compromise, but i would prefer on-game-creation as it would not create a hard split of the community.
They always said that they might add QoL while preserving the original experience.
If i were to judge, i would consider the original FFA-loot-experience as out-of-service.

Good point. I would love to dig into that. But unfortunately every thread on this topic is immediately burned by the arguments i predicted.
So in-depth discussions are kinda hard.

And that is what they are doing. And ffa can still stay as an option.
You are right that it might have certain risks.

If you didnt say it, then by others. It is hard to keep track of every individual poster. I will try to keep better track of your particular words in the future.

And D2 still exists if you prefer that experience.

D2R represents a golden opportunity to make a game that appeals to purists and progressives by implementing a strict remaster realm and a separate modern realm with more options.

Because this is how the game was originally created and balanced. If you donā€™t like it, or itā€™s too difficult for you, then play something else.

Also, yes. You stay in D3 and Iā€™ll stay in D2. Works perfectly for me.

And there is already ploot for you in D3.

Nobody told you that you get ploot.

He clearly misspoke. When that person said personal loot, he obviously meant account bound and even used the words soul bound immediately before that. Personal loot does not mitigate the effects of duping if you look at the quote in context. He clearly meant account bound.

I hope we get at least 3 - 4 ladder seasons before they implement this stupid private loot BS,. The sad thing is I think at some point Blizzard is going to cave to these type of people, but I just pray its after 4 or more ladder seasons at that point I can move on once it does happen, but hopefully i can experience the old school way of d2 the way its meant to be for a few seasonsā€¦ Blizzard or who ever runs this company always folds to the people who cry the most so its gonna happen.

Even the original game director of D2/D2:LoD and president of Blizzard North at that time has said if he could he would change 3 things in the game

  1. Removal of stamina bar
  2. Auto-gold pickup
  3. Instanced/personal loot instead of FFA loot

He also said that FFA was not selected because it was superior to instanced loot. Instanced loot was not yet invented. There is a multitude of reasons that almost every video game aRPG has abandoned FFA loot in favor of the superior instanced loot.

Personally for nostalgia, I think FFA loot should say in D2R, but a second loot option should be added.

Iā€™d rather come to D2R, which i bought and see pLoot in it.
Enjoy your time in D2 though (or in D2R with FFA loot as a legacy option).
