LOOT drops - How to make the game experience better

Hi, first I want to say that the game visual exceeded my expectations beyond my dreams. The game looks gorgeous and the gameplay is very fluid. No lag, and I get on very high settings around 170 fps.

Even the lead director of diablo 2 proposed it :

If 8 players decide to play one instance of a game together, that game will not drop more items per person than if each individual player decided to go play solo self-found for the same amount of time invested. In fact, because they are all spending their limited time together in one game, means they get the same amount of loot as if they would play solo. The only difference is that the quality of items might be slightly better depending on the group metas.

Now, I think the best thing the dev could do is to make the drops private for everyone. For every monster you kill every player in the game should get the own drops.

How is this useful? Nowadays everybody is busy in their lives, have a job kids etcā€¦ private drops will make people more focused on killing the mobs than focused on who will get that jah. And then if you farm for 5 hours and only get 10% of the good loot because it was taken by another player it feels you wasted your time.

Then if loot is private, the community will be more inclined to play and farm with strangers without worrying about wasting their time farming. It will make the game more fun for everyone. However the loot that you get should never ever be account bound. It should be tradeable whenever you want.

Lets say you are in a party of 8 people you are a javazon and the sorc killed meph, in that regard you should have your own drop and she should too. That way you donā€™t feel wasting your time for no reason.

Now, how private loot is the best way to go forward? The most important aspect of it is it will not alter the gameplay experience of players who enjoy farming alone. If you like to farm alone then make your own game but let people who enjoy interacting with other players and who like socializing have their own fun aswell.

Literally, this will only improve the fun for everyone. If you dont like farming in group then just make your own game and thats it.

D2R was made to modernize the game, we got auto gold pickup and more inventory space, this will just make the gameplay experience better for everyone without feeling the time was wasted especially for casual players.

Then it will just save people from people using auto pickers

Then it will make the game more fun for everyone because people that are near the servers have a better ping and will have more chance of getting the loot first in which it makes the game unfair and uncompetitive.

No to : give one copy of all drops to each player. We need split loot, no increased drop chance, no inflation economy stays the same. Or instanced loot where you have the same chance drop of getting that Shako if you were farming alone or in a team.

MAKE IT as a TOGGLE when creating a room.

  1. It makes the game more fair against people using auto pickers

  2. It wont affect loners gameplay, if you like to farm alone farm alone, if you would like to socialize with people then join a game and have fun

  3. People living near the servers will always have a better ping making the drop unfair

  4. It wont even affect people that like to farm alone, just farm alone but let people who like to farm in group have their own fun. The loot is not account bound you can trade it whenever you want.

  5. It is making ranged characters more prone to get loot since the barb fighting could get stunned since he is fighting in melee ranged while the sorc tele and gets the drop.

  6. Make it optional when you create a game the people who ā€˜ā€˜get the rush on who click the item firstā€™ā€™ can create their own game hoping for them they live near the servers and have a good ping.

  7. The argument : ā€˜ā€˜I donā€™t like leechersā€™ā€™ This is a non problem since there are tons of way to circumvent it. You need to be x tiles away from the monster to get any drop or you need to have delt at least 10% of the damage to get any drops. And you always have the possibility to kick any player as the host by un-partying or kicking. There is plenty of way to do it.

  8. If you want REAL adrenaline play HARDCORE.

  9. Is the thrill worth destroying an aspect of the game that would enhance cooperative play? I donā€™t think that this rush is worth the rush cooperative play can bring, the fun of interacting with other player with different builds and element damages, support etc. And that thrill goes away fast since you will only experience it while levelling up after that when you enter the farming phase you will never create a public game because you donā€™t want to miss that Ber rune drop.

  10. It will make other builds viable such as support, tanks different elemental damage as people would be more inclined to play together and use their strength and weakness together to farm and make new friend.

I was already a proponent of some kind of pLoot before, but the past hours of tomb-runs have not exactly helped to change my view.
These runs are chaotic and stressful! Enemies dying left and right, you see a merc weapon over there, you want to pick it, gone, rune drops, gone, shield drops, gone, you barely even see them.
I even tried moving alone in my own corridor to have some loot for myself, then a sorx teleports by, snatches the item i am standing on.
I know this will trigger alot of the old-guard around here, but i will say it anyway. When playing D3, i can focus on gameplay. As little as there might be, i can focus on my character, the monsters, my skills and whenever i feel like, i can check for my loot. That is so much more immersive and enjoyable than being pummeled by a tomb-train.

I know what others will post already:

  • if you are not fast enough, it is not yours
  • pub games are not for loot, they are for exp
  • you are playing on normal, who cares what you think
  • we dont want to lose our loot to leechers

I know them and had them in mind while enduring the current loot system. They dont cut the cheese for me.

Nope, that is the D2 experience, I appreciate it leaves most modernist gamers shocked and dismayed at the lack of hand holding, leaving the gamers from the participation trophy era confused and perplexed, but you will learn that when it comes to actually finding loot worth keeping, 99% of that is done alone or with a small group of trusted friends.

As for mercs being this way and that, it is meant to be like that, thatā€™s why they say ā€œbring your own armyā€.

click faster. individual drops on d2 are stupid.

Game balancing or how a game works has nothing to do with your family status.

You are aware that you just gave the biggest argument for pLoot, right?
You are saying that 99% of the important loot is found solo. So why not use pLoot for the remaining 1% then? Should not be any harm involved.

As for the ā€œparticipation trophyā€ you are trying to spin this into ā€œleechers dont deserve itemsā€ again. There is no reason in taking all potential good stuff from your teammates just because they cant click them faster than you. *Especially when you are claiming that it is just 1% of your loot.

Stealing is not balance, it is anti-social and stressful.

Iā€™m sorry what? That comment also included teams working together, but you just left that out.

No person loot, this is D2, accept it. You have D3 and the soon to arrive d4, just let us have this one.

When was the last time you have seen your name on the item?

1% is Solo + Private party. Happy now? You are just adding more traction to the argument for pLoot.

In D2 actually. There is a quest for it.
Are you new to D2?

No, iā€™m not, you are just demonstrating why you want personal loot, be honest, you begrudge other players collecting things in games you are in, it angers you seeing others collecting things that you feel should all belong to you.

They are called quest items. And not loot.

Its crazy to see how people are so backward thinking. D2R was made to MODERNIZE the game graphically and mechanically. We got auto gold pickup which was great, more stash space. Now how could we IMPROVE on game experience and making the game more socially interacting? Private loot. Those against are either loners or totally backward thinking. AND now HOW IN Hell private loot would impact negatively your gameplay? If you enjoy farming your gear alone then FARM IT ALONE. Let other players who enjoy social game have their own fun without wasting their time wasting gear.

Well this is the main problem. They ā€œfeelā€. I wonder when they realize FFA is D2.

Not really. But i see that you are just trying to disagree, no matter what.

No, i am ā€œbegrudgedā€ by not getting anything unless i try to ninja-pick it from others myself. It is not nice. I have to stop fighting, i have to rush into rooms to open chests, i have to move into melee distance of boss mobs.
It is not that i cannot do these things. I just know that they are not how you play an actual arpg in 2021 anymore. There is no benefit in this ninja-looting apart from raising the feeling that you describe.
I have absolutely no problem if my ally gets his own pLoot and gets good stuff, because i know that i get my fair share.
You however are begrudged, because you do not want others to get their fair share. You want to get it for yourself. And that angers you.

No thanks. D2 is just fine how it is.

Dude, if you like farming alone then FARM alone. Private loot doesnā€™t impact your own gameplay experience, just farm alone but let people who enjoy social aspect of the game have their fun.

no for all thatā€™s unholy please stop, if you want private loot farm in a private game or join a baal run game and do meph while they travel down thereā€¦ if you wanna study the item color, name and its position where it landed you are at fault, click faster, if its unique CLICK IT if you are unsure of what it is CLICK, if its a set item and you are not sure which one CLICK IT, you can always throw it away again if you dont need it, dissapointed or what ever you feel like. if you are a slow oldie who cant click or move the mouse that fast than back to farming in private games or other acts while the rest do something elseā€¦ would almost say early bird gets the worm, but here the fastest bird gets the worm, dont blame the predator

There is no steal in the game cus none of the loot belongs to you. If you are slow then you dont get loot.

they get their fair share in the form of opportunity. all are on equal footing from when the mobs die and the item drops. from there its up to the player. are you fast or are you slow??
it is fine as is, and has been since the dawn of time. what you want is a participation trophy in the form of Ploot. Yaaaaay Freebies

Alright, i will take these notes and try them out.
Edit: I tried them. No, they are too ancient for me (and most likely to many more). I prefer pLoot.
You can have your old selfish-ffa loot as an optional mode on a separate realm. Enjoy playing with your fellow ffa-ninjas.

Good. So since it belongs to nobody, letā€™s split it fairly among everyone on the map.
Thanks for the good argument for pLoot.

So incredibly incorrect. Do you read what you write yourself?!
How on earth is an amazon on equal footing as a melee character?
How is a slow necro on equal footing with a teleporting sorx?
You clearly never played the game. Just go back to whatever you played before. It cant be D3, cause then youā€™d know that pLoot is the future.

Many things have changed since the dawn of time. ā€œHaving been that way beforeā€ is not an argument against change. It is an argument of the lazy.
Also it is not a participation trophy to prevent others from stealing your stuff.
