I can’t remember where, but I read that Blizz will chose the 6 best seasons and rotate them. Anyone know if that is true, or will there be more than 6?

Keep an eye on the OP. (That’s why I created it). We should know more in about 21 months or less.

To my knowledge, Blizz never officially said how many themes will be rotated in seasons.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if it will be 4-6 different themes only.

Thats likely because some are a bit lackluster. I thought… I read something about possibly combining a couple seasons. That would be sweet. Crucibles and ethereals…

Then we should know in 12 to 18 months.


I believe that was other players’ wishful thinking.

Only time will tell. (I doubt Blizzard will).

Considering Altar and Fissures in the end didn’t make it to NS (yes, I understood that it will be part of NS, as well) we kinda have every season a combination of 3 themes, however 2 season themes (yes Altar got nerfed - I actually wouldn’t oppose theme of “original” Altar as a variant) are now core part of seasons.

It’s Shades of the Nephalem for Season 33.

The PTR will have that theme.

In the article it says:

Please note that this is a preview for PTR content, which is subject to change. As this is a test server, please anticipate uneven game performance, and note that restarts and downtime may occur without warning. Thank you, and we look forward to your feedback!

Not sure what to make out of the very first sentence does it refer to the theme or the temporary PTR character?

On the other hand why include a theme only to change it for the live version.

And it’s the Theme in the Patch Notes that has always gone Live when the Season starts. The updates for Mac will go Live when Patch 2.7.8 is deployed.

  • Season 32 ends Sunday, October 20, 2024.
  • Patch 2.7.8 is deployed Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
  • Season 33 starts Friday, October 25, 2024.

The Shades of Nephalem season theme will also be available to play during the PTR.


Edit: The operative phrase being: “will also be available”. Meaning it will be in the PTR and Season 33.

What you quoted was the generic disclaimer Blizzard posts in EVERY Patch Notes Blog. It just means that what is listed in the Patch Notes may change by the time the Patch goes Live.

In other words, if bugs are found during the PTR, including performance issues, changes may be made to correct this. Most of the time Blizzard will update the Patch Notes to indicate the changes. (Old information will be struck out and the new information will be in red text).

It is unlikely they will include a Theme in the PTR and change it to a different Theme when the new Season goes Live.
