It's 2021 not 2012. Time for changes

So after spending days reading almost every post, I decided to make one of my own. First off I want to say, I’m happy with how the development team is listening and open to change. Diablo 2 was a great game, no doubt about it.
However, this is a golden, once in a long time opportunity. What I’m referring to is some proposed quality of life improvements. Right now, in todays age, players have come to expect and enjoy certain quality of life in their games. For example little things like auto gold pickup or a way to instantly organize their inventory.
These are good and in no way game breaking improvements. Same with resource additions such as built in encyclopedia for runewords or cube recipes. Yes, people can look them up, but I ask why have to if it can be incorporated? It only adds to the experience and immersion if a player can click a in-game button and have the info they need at their fingertips.
Now, as I’ve read thru forum after forum topic, I see the same 20 (give or take) people complaining about making any kind of changes or improvements. PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE SAME FEW, THEY ARE NOT THE MANY. Hate to say it like this, but it’s time to move on. It’s 2021 and players want the best diablo 2 game they can get, and that includes IMPROVEMENTS.
The core diablo 2 experience is not going to ruined by having gems stackable. I hear people talk about economy, my response to that is this will be a totally new game with alot of new players. Why not shake it up, I understand you don’t want to lose your “established” place but again, it’s 2021 and time to mix it up.
I hear people say terms like “tourist” well to be honest its the “tourist” that make up the majority of the people actually buying this. Yes, obviously there are some long term dedicated fans but as some other people pointed out, you can still play the game you like. This about making the best Diablo 2 that ALL players will like, not just the maybe 1000 or so die hards.

Let me think, yeah no.

Yep. Blizzard D2R forums are infested with purists because nonpurists did not buy this game because they wanted changes and no big changes were announced yet.

To even post here, you need to purchase the game.

I just fear that the same thing that happened with D3 will happen with D2:R… Ludacris Speed warp accelerated power creep progression.

I feel if they do introduce some of the proposed quality of life improvements, it will ADD more players. People will like the idea of some new elements to a old favorite.

It was actually advertised as a faithful remaster.
Should of kept it OG at launch, then announce ideas for changes.
The woo woo here can’t be rolled back, it’s too late.
The community will figure it out, eventually.

People will always find a way to become overpowered or exploit there is no stopping that. The improvements will only add to the game for most players

What is this wall of text.

err btw, no.

If the game sells 1 million or less, I’d say just leave it as a 1.14 remaster.

If Asmongold and other big streamers make it relevant on Twitch, I think it would be a good idea to modernize the ladder and add things such as the guild halls/arenas, etc.

My reasoning for this is because gaming has been absolute dog s*** for the last 10 years. If they were to actually add some modern features, people would leave boring games like league of legends/WoW/New World to experience the greatest game of all time for the next 5 - 10 years until next gen gaming comes out the woodwork.

@nickie yes indeed this does have the potential to be the greatest

The door swings both ways, it could also ruin the genuine experience the original game brought.

time for what changes? we already got all the necessary changes. its a remaster, its you that shouldn’t be here

Why the F would Asmongold playing this or not have to do with any direction? Stop being a sycophant.

D2 is already a success, this is a remaster for you to relive - or experience for new what made it so good back then. When will this sink into people’s heads?

Diablo 4 is what they are working on, D2 is a REMASTER.

@thedarkjedi an answer was already proposed. there can be different “modes” so totally og mode and new with quality of life

as someone who writes exceedingly long posts myself… trying using paragraphs? or at least the enter key so it doesn’t looks like a block of text.

there are some changes i would like,
i dont see a “downside” to stacking runes and gems in a shared stash, as long as its not in your inventory,
adding a loot filter would just be a insanely massive QOL change.
and a adding space in your inventory by adding space that charms dont work in (aka “charm inventory”) would be another great thing that wouldn’t affect balance but be a massive QOL boost.
but overall i don’t want them touching skills or items, maybe a few tweaks to MA sin, to make skills other than solely dragon talon and dragon flight usable.

and i would hit holy shield with a ton of nerfs across the board in every aspect other than duration, such as FBR breakpoints, defense, increase block rate

MA sin needs work, but overall the balance is fine

most of us only want SOLELY QOL changes, and maybe a few minor balance tweak to underused skills but that’s it…

we don’t want new runewords or a massive new patch as we don’t trust the blizzard after d3 and “don’t you guys have phones”

personally after the change to fix amazon’s face, to get rid of ladder only restriction, and to fix the dclone spawn method. and getting rid of that sexist pervert in charge, I’m not ganna lie…
they ARE starting to earn my trust back… slowly.

i still have serious concerns about the UI i saw in beta, especially in the game creation lobby. But VV has done a pretty damn amazing job so far. and if they keep making good choices i may be more willing to let them address, some larger balance issues. on later patches anyways

but i want d2:R to be the D2 i grew up with… QOL changes are fine… but almost none of us trust blizzard to make balance changes right now… and thats where the vast majority of the fear and hesitation comes from…

@melkchocalat what a response. i didn’t realize my experience or input was any less than yours considering i’m also a long time player

What people propose and what Blizzard/VV delivers are two different things.

@thedarkjedi so true. its nice to be able to present them here at least. I feel it is impacting development

I didn’t just single out Asmongold. Twitch is what modern gaming is, it’s the reason a lot of games even stay relevant like GTA5/Fortnite/League. If it becomes relevant on Twitch then changes would be a lot more necessary, if it’s not, then as I said just leave the game as 1.14. But I doubt it will stay 1.14 since the beta already was labelled as 1.15.
