Inventory management is not fun "gameplay? Discuss

What would be stopping you from just having the inventory open while fighting a boss, and right clicking a pot when you are on lowish hp instead of adding it to belt at all?

You could make it so you can only use potions from the belt, but then thawing and antidote pots are less convenient to use.

I find inventory management fun actually the aspect of making a quick decision to toss something for something more valuable even if ever so slightly I find satisfying.

Now here’s the thing I want the game to stay as close as possible to the original game but I would consider stackable runes/gems QOL whereas charm inventory I see as game ruin change

So I would happily do without any qol’s if it meant that atrocity that is charm inv that people love to lump with the most minor of all improvements doesn’t see light outside of mods.

If we do get a charm bag it shouldn’t be inventory sized, it should be less than half. I’m talking 4x4 at most. Enough to have a little extra room but that’s it. Like I said before, we need a New Game + mode for the more dramatic changes if we’re to get some of them.

I’d even settle for a charm cube that took up a 2x2 spot in your inventory. Just as long as the charms inside count (when it’s in your inventory) this way people can choose whether or not they want to use it or they can keep it in their stash. And if they’re really against it, they can just drop it so it’s not taking up stash space.

If I was given a separate charm inventory or expanded inventory like I keep seeing suggested, I’d like everyone to know I will be #1 on ladder. Doing this will break the game, because if I didn’t need to go to town I never would; greatly increasing my mf and leveling time. The inventory gives this game a balance.

Yes, imagine picking up every charm that drops and putting it in the charm inventory. You would get so much stronger while leveling and farming, it’s rediculous. With the current system you would have to carefully select what charms you would like to use, and drop the rest. Noone fills up their normal inventory with every charm they find. That would be the case with charms inventory. Absolutely massive gameplay and balance change. I don’t see it happening.

you can also go play another game, you are not forced to play this game.

oooh… i also made an argument

purists dont fear change, we just dont want the game to change drastically because that can ruin the game we love

You are a really strange person. Didn’t you like Tetris in your childhood?

We’re at that point where this game is only good for MOD support! The purist don’t want any change and blizzard is afraid due to Warcraft 3! I’ve said that will have a huge playerbase to start but the lack of QOL and an actual improvements will cause a mass exit of players people are not going to play a clunky outed game that has major balance issues! We will simply wait for mods because 1.14 is not good enough to keep masses playing see the last 10-12 years… everyone plays mods besuae they offer more then 1.14 could ever offer d2 1.14 has been dead for a decade minus 500-1500 players and a billion bots the right call was to let 1.14 die and update! History will repeat this game will die again a horrible death with 80-90% of the players leaving only coming back for mods

You don’t know that.
Let it come out first before it is already messed up with nonsensical suggestions.
Maybe you’re wrong and the players will love it just as much as we did back then? Ever thought about it?
Not everything that is new is good. Look at Diablo 3…
Never played anything so dull. The game plays almost by itself because you have to do nothing more.
I do not want something like that for Diablo 2 Res.

it will not die again because it never was dead…
and if anyone want play with mods because of minor QoL Issues they maybe would have …let them play with mods.
I dont care. Whats the Problem. You can play with mods too cant you?!

D2res is just a stopgap for Blizzard until D4 comes out and MAYBE even a small apology for the Warcraft Reforged disaster. But certainly not a BIG HOPE for a long time with millions of players.

Leave Inventory the same.

Charms have different sizes. Make decisions on what to carry and the free space you want.

30k hours and I still leave a polearm size slot open and I carry tome of tp, id, keys. I will ID rares and only take them with me if worth vendoring. So no not everyone fills their inventory.

With a charm inventory.

Stacking thawing, antidote, full rejuv in inventory. Remove need for half freeze or cannot be frozen and poison length reduction gear. Meaning you just allowed me to run even more gg gear.

This does not even cover pvp and the imbalance that creates.

Charm inventory is a bad idea because it removes choices. I know choices are hard (for some people) and can be permanent (if you sell things instead of xfer) and if you think you are gg because your inventory is full of charms you need to play the game better you shouldn’t need that many. Especially with anni and torch. I can run a mf sorc with anni and torch and the rest all 7%mf sc except polearm size slot. It is not that hard to do.

The game ISN’T just designed for purists.

Some people just couldn’t get it through their head. Puristas seems to think ONLY their points are valid.

Obviously people who played the game for 20 years have no major issue with what the game is, but others do not, that’s why they quited & moved on.

Its 2021, people expect games with longivity to get constant update. Most popular games get constant updates regularly.

Of course the game wouldn’t die if there is no update, but the gamebase will skrink massively.

Surveys conducted show most peopel welcome changes (for improvement). Purists are the minority.

If anyone is buying remastered games because they expect constant updates, I honestly don’t know what they’re thinking.

Yuck.

Most people acknowledge regular updates are need to keep the game popular.

I wouldn’t say people expect constant update, but many are hopeful.

And most people acknowledge regular updates will also drive players away, provided they aren’t optional.

Optional, separate content = okay

Wrecking balance in a 20 year old remaster and replacing old content = not okay

Well…
The Devs said they would stick with the old nostalgic Diablo 2 feeling as much as possible and dont want to change things ingame that alter that feeling.
So i would say cleary : it IS for the old players and not for
Mr Impatiant-15 Jears old-and-want-all-the-good-stuff-at-lvl-1-with-item-rain-lootfilters-and-changed-balance. xd :stuck_out_tongue:
Sure he can play it but then he has to DEAL with the Game.
and if he doesn’t like it the way it is, he should play something else. End of story.

The Blizzcon announcement literally said the game is for existing d2 players, ex d2 players as well as new players.

Even the thought that the game is primarily for existing D2 players is just ridiculous You think Bliiuzard would bother making a game for just a small dedicated base, & not to reach as much people as possible ?

If they were making a game, yes, they’d outreach as much as possible. However this is not a new game so it’s not being made. It’s a remaster and this remaster caters to a nostalgic audience first and foremost.

Once the game’s out and it’s proliferated among the masses, it’ll hit new crowds and draw them in too, but the idea is to keep the original crowd interested and that is to keep the game faithful to the original version.

The painful fact is because this game is very old it’s not going to attract a ton of new players. It’ll bring in enough to keep the game relevant but the majority of the staying power will be old players like myself.

I too can make a poll or hold a survey in a minority crowd picked out of the tens of millions of different crowds that hold even more minority crowds that could’ve also taken part in said polls and surveys…

Fact of the matter is those surveys and what not are a very small percentage of the players that will actually play the game. The majority of players that play any game are vocal-less. They prefer not to get into these forum scuffles like we here do, or just don’t know these forums exists.
