People are heavily against changes since it has happend so many times before with remasters & the like. You expect a remaster without changes, so that it runs well on modern machines, But people want to change things and/or even if no one has a say in it, the devs nearly always decide to change something anyway, Itās a risk to change something people already like. Personally i like and have no issues with what theyāve done so far, But thereās always the worry that they will cave in to peoples requests of change. Which would/could change the game beyond recognition, there by no longer appealing to the major audience of old & new. If there would be too much change, then at least keep the option to play as it was without too much or any changes. / Just trying to awnser your question.
I donāt get why you want all these changes to a game that stood the test of time for 20 years. Diablo III and PoE still exist, donāt they?

People who request changes are normally not of the meticulous type to plan, compare, calculate, simulate, document, or review. They usually seek immediate gratification, which is way they fail to consider that their topics can indeed receive negative feedback. Having the very same people exclaim that emotional investment is illogical in a final effort to invalidate others just falls short of a good joke.
The only inventory change that would be acceptable would be if the inventory was automatically split in twine as charms were detected, as it would organize charms on one side of the inventory without allowing for more trash to be carried around. See, this is a reasonable suggestion, but it was never considered because what people were really after was more inventory space. Shame really.

Itās called D4. have fun with it.
nothing but a reskin is fine with me, thatās plenty. My son and I have said for years that D2 would be totally awesome with just new graphics. We got our wish.

If Blizzard could do the following:
- Bundle the D2 and D2LoD:
- CD keys.
- Installation files.
- Make the installation files:
- Easier to navigate to.
- Without amateurish JavaScript errors.
- Make the game run on Windows 10, without the following complications:
- Architecture.
- Administrative.
- Color.
- Make widescreen available, with:
- Fixed aggression radius.
- Proper UI scaling.
- Increase the gross 25 FPS front-end to normal 30 FPS.
I wouldnāt need D2R.
Fact of the matter is that it takes almost as long to make the above happen as recreating the game on top of the old one, especially because there is literally no documentation for D2 what so ever, forcing the developers who will be working on it to create a new SDLC plan which is 80% of the total work.
And $40 is nothing. I would pay $100 for D2R, and the exact same sum if they managed to solve the above for D2LoD.

There are so many Assumptions being made by purist in this thread, about those who want more changes. Note: I want more changes in a separate realm+mode, so if the devs mess them up I can just stick to 1.14d:R version.
Assumption 1: People who want changes want it to be D4 or D3. If I or anyone else wanted that we would be either waiting for d4 or playing D3 and not giving two craps about D2R.
Assumption 2: We must not have played the game as much as you. I guess playing with all the classes at least once to level 99 and beating Baal, then came back when they added more end game stuff, isnāt enough. In fact I also played all the classes to level 99 IN classic D2 not just LOD. Sure I may not have found Tyrealās might, although I almost did but it was dup someone dropped In a game I was playing. But I played the hell out of the game, and still hate the charm system+FFA loot.
Assumption 3: We donāt know what we are talking about, or only want the game to be easier, while there are some like the OP who might want a easier game, donāt group all the people asking for change in one bubble, I try not to group purists as all in one cohesive group, you are all individuals who have there own opinions on how much is ok to change.
rant over, I just think its sad that people are so invested in one side of the argument or the other, that they make blind assumptions about people or their character over a game. A great game , but its just a hobby to have fun. If blizz donāt want to make anymore changes, which I do think they should consider, Iāll likely just stick to solo play or LAN. Hopefully someone will make a mod that just adds Charm INV, and maybe some buffs to bad builds. Because Iām very sure blizz will fix quite a few bugs, please fix fend and fury bugs.

You donāt get the āobsessionā ? You mean the ālogicā? Do you know what logical thinking is? So you want them to add content to a 20 year old game. Okay. Although theyāre already making newer content, with new stories with Diablo Immortal and Diablo IVā¦
So you want them to add a new character or new lore, etc ā does that include the diablo universe magically discovering a time machine that Cain didnāt tell anybody about? Where was any word of this content in Diablo 3 then? how will it fit into the story of Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4?
If itās really that hard for you to understand the difference between the remastering of a 20 year old game to preserve it as it was, versus the remaking of a new game from the ground up ā then perhaps you shouldnāt be playing this at all?
When they restore Van Gogh paintings, or whatever artifacts they find from years ago ā do they add new things to the painting? Do they change the meaning of the painting? No, they update it and preserve its beauty.

Iāll give one example why many people like me are worried about changes. Iāve enjoyed the way sorceress plays in terms of mobility. Same goes with enigma and staff with teleport charges when playing classes like paladin. If I one day come on here after 20 years of playing and I see a massive teleport nerf (see: PD2 mod with its fcr bp moved to lightning, and other teleport skills having a cd on them), Iām going to be pissed and wish they never remastered the game.
Iām not opposed to changes, but I know that if changes occur, they will inevitably listen to a lot of the bad ideas noobs in this community suggest, like gutting enigma and teleport. At that point itās too risky to want changes. Just go play PD2.

I actually would prefer 1.09 skills and 1.14 rune words with any changes proposed to it affixes too

I have though? I didnāt do those solo though. Yes after 95 its very painful, but me my high school friends and a my brother ran diablo countless times to do it. This was not on Bnet, but on Lan characters.
You would literally be the only person in the world to have ever leveled 5 chars to 99 in Classic. Convenient that it was on lan, where no one can dispute those claims, except with math.
What patch were you running? 1.09, 1.10? pre-lod?
Honestly itās just not a believable story. I know most of the people who actually hit 99. I was in some of those games, and it often took teams of 15-20 people to open games ahead of time, getting Dia and an XP shrine ready 3/4 games ahead.
Edit : I should quantify this by saying that Iām talking about a legit level to 99, it is entirely possible that one of your friends may have been opening games with an XP-MOD, unbeknownst to you, which could explain you hitting level 99 on 5 chars. Iām not calling you a liar, you just may be remembering things different than they actually happened.
For reference - GERbarb and RUSbarb had entire teams playing them with shared accounts 24/7 and to my knowledge were the only characters that hit 99 in pre-LoD.
As for 1.09- I know pretty much every character on all realms that hit 99, and it is much more painstaking than getting a few highschool friends and your brother to do it legitly, let alone 5x chars. Thereās not a single person in the quest for 99 that would do it 5 times legitlyā¦you would have needed you and all your friends to drop out, and play for years straight 24/7.

Itās a remake of a beloved and iconic game. That being said, any changes should be made with much scrutiny. And itās already getting QoL changes.

Remastering involves enhancing the quality of an original āmasterā version, meaning the fabric of the source is merely enhanced, rather than modified. Within videogames, this same rule usually applies, with the most popular form of remastering being based on fidelity and resolution.

Itās possible that it was modded version as it wasnāt hosted by my computer, but I donāt remember us ever modding it. But we did use the players 64 it was 1.09b. It was very much a a slog and took years but I felt so good finally doing it. Highest I got in classic on Bnet was on a necro and it was 93 or 94 I think.
You made me hope there was a list I could find with the names on it, I had one early days 99 and was a necro that I poured all my time into, and he took forever, donāt remember the version he hit it though. Never aimed for 99 afterwards, I aimed for 93-96ā¦ past that every death sets you back days/weeks/months 
At that point I just went to HC where any death is the end and getting up the ladder was easier.
