Blizzard should get serious with cheaters and issue hardware bans for D2:R. Cheating is only getting worse each year and growing. Even Fortnite uses hardware ban now because they saw a loss of revenue and people leaving their game from the blatant cheats. I suggest to use simultaneous CPU+GPU hardware bans as this will deter cheaters and make D2 an enjoyable experience. Let’s upvote this guys and make D2 as great as we remember it.

you can bypass hardware bans easy. you can also bypass ip bans easy. all they need is to ban the accounts every 1-2 weeks so its not worth to lvl up a char and equipp it. but as we have seen what blizzard did and does in wow classic and retail they just ban every 3-5 month and that is not enough.

If they target GPU+CPU ID it’s not that easy. They would need to replace both those components. If its just regular ID then it’s easy since they just need to change 1 part of their hardware like network card or add something cheap.
How I think it should work:
1: If the automated countermeasures detect a player as a potential cheat, an automatic blanket account bound flag is placed on all current and future items on all characters until the case can be reviewed by the hacks team.
2: If confirmed a cheat by someone at the hacks team, the banhammer flies, they lose everything, the cheater will have to purchase another copy of D2:R to play again on Battle.net. Otherwise if found to be a false positive or otherwise not cheating, the blanket account bound flag is lifted.

I don’t think that’s enough to stop them. Look at original D2 everyone will leave bnet and we’re going to end up with massive amount of bots again. People multi-client with multiple accounts at once on the same pc. So you ban 8 accounts and those 8 will buy new copies again. I don’t even think they ban anymore in old D2. Hardware targeting CPU+GPU would deter them.
Hardware bans aren’t the answer. How would you feel if you were purchasing a GPU, or even a complete system on eBay only to later discover that you can’t play a game due to a hardware ban? No thanks.

You send proof to ebay and say they sold you a gpu that was hardware banned which wasn’t stated in the advertisement and get a full refund. Second of all ebay isn’t a good place to gpu epsecially since most of them have probably been running 24/7 for mining. I wouldn’t buy a used GPU in 2021, unless it was from a trusted source like a friend.

Good luck with that, especially when you find out several months after the purchase.
Bans are instant, how would you find out months later. Seems like excuses from a cheater that doesn’t want this implemented.

Uhhhh… Ok.
Scenario:
D2:R is released!
Cheater starts playing, gets detected and hardware banned 3 months after release.
Cheater buys replacement video card, installs it, resumes cheating.
Cheater posts his hardware banned card on eBay, gets a lot of his money back.
Buyer buys card.
Buyer decides to try out Diablo 2:Resurrected 6 months after purchase.
Buyer can’t play because the GPU is hardware banned.
Make sense?

That assumes you get the item and IMMEDIATELY log into D2R.
Say you get a new GPU and don’t log into D2R because you are playing other games. 3 months down the road you log in (or even purchase for the first time) only to find you cannot connect because a part you bought 3 months ago was banned previously.
Hardware bans WORK but you need a system in place to undo the bans fairly easily

Oh I see, I’ll still take that over playing with 10,000’s of bots online. Just don’t buy used gpu’s off ebay. lol
If that happens you can contact support and show them that the hadware you were using was just bought as second hand and they should remove the ban.
Hardware ban is a good tool, but with 40 bucks a cdkey i think it wont be needed, the problem will come if their detecting system is good or not.
Oh it def will, d2+ lod is only like 20$ and they still do it constantly. I think you guys are underestimating how many people cheat. ;(
You can buy d2 keys for 2$
In 1 week you can make botting worth it.
Thats 168 hours of farming.
And it only takes a small handful of hours to get rushed into hell difficulty.
And the bots are on separate accounts… So banning wont mean anything.

It takes like 20min to get rushed to hell act5 and about 1h more to get lvld to 80+.
There will always be bots, with or without the ahrdware bans, it is not about removing 100%, but removing it from the masses.

They should have real time bans, that’s all. No ban waves every 6 months.
Just ban the botters in real time and you will see how quickly people stop botting.
Like literally, give us paid subscriptions to servers that have admins actively banning botters and I am gonna be happy.

The problem is thinking of it as snot-nosed kids cheating on their home systems.
The vast, vast majority of video game cheating is a highly organized, multinational, billion dollar industry that wouldn’t feel as much as a tap on the shoulder if their hardware was banned.
Yes, it’d nab some private users in the process, but it wouldn’t put a dent in the amount of cheating. Even private users who know what they are doing can replace any component cheaply and quickly.
