Diablo IV Announcement Discussion

Super hyped for this after watching the cinematic and gameplay footage.

I do hope however that you’d consider some suggestions.

Things i’d like to see in Diablo 4, most people will consider these trivial and worthless ideas, but all the good ideas have already been suggested lol

I just want to talk about little things that would make the game extra special to me.

First off, I would love to see some of our Diablo 3 characters in this game, such as Li Ming the wizard, Valla the DH, the crusader and so on.

Naturally they wouldn’t have the same skillset, hell they could even not be the same class, I would just like to see the lore character with its voice actor(s) as I very much enjoyed their work in diablo 3.

Secondly, I would love it if the story involves saving Leah’s soul, pretty simple request here, it wouldn’t even have to be a huge story element, a small quest where you find her lost soul bound somewhere and free it to the afterlife.

Thirdly, I love the new art style that diablo 4 has, it seems a lot more gritty which a lot of people wanted, yet hasn’t compromised on visibility which I was worried it would.

However I still think the graphics need a little work, higher resolutions, smoother textures ect.

I know this is just a small demo, but I feel like voicing this feedback anyway, just incase.

Last of all, what I would REALLY love to see in Diablo 4 is a customizable UI where you can drag around things like health globes, maybe have portraits, have different styles of action bars ect.

That’s just a few things i’d love to see in diablo 4, on the off chance you’re monitoring this thread

I heard while watching a live stream that party size will be 4 but that some world bosses will allow multiple parties.

I feel that party size itself should be a bit bigger, maybe 6 or 8.

Hopefully the game will be soloable and multi-instanced, not like MMO.

Wow, Blizzard may not have apologized for last Blizzcon, but this looks like they are trying very hard to make amends with Diablo fans… and in a very short time. I’m happy with the trailer!

I think blizz had no plans for d4 at all until what happen with the announcement for immortal. That’s what changed their mind and made them get stuff rolling.

Thank you for the reveal!

Here’s a quick list that has me very excited for D4 and I hope get expanded on:

  • I saw lots of “qualifier” text on skills. For example, on the Barbarian skills there are text like “Berserker” and “Overlord”.
  • I saw a lot of “effects”, like “chilled” and “stunned”

These two get me excited because it means that there can be a lot of potential on items to modify one or more of the “qualifiers” or “effects”. That means I can have some choices and make a lot of different build types.

  • I love the animations and the seamless movements!
  • Legendaries that add to and modify skills!
  • Open world!
  • Seamless player social/interaction in the world, but balanced with “instance” dungeons!
  • As always, the awesome cinematic! Chills!
  • Graphics look amazing!
  • Map waypoints is neat.

Concerns:

  • Small talent trees. I hope that these are expanded.
    • I’d like to see the talent trees be more broad and not seem like something I where I can get “everything” or so small that the “best” tree is figured out for meta relatively quickly. I think this should be something that takes a lot of thought and maybe even turns a melee class into a ranged class with the right talents.
  • Equipped item count also feels limited. I think the Wizard only had 10 slots? Is that enough to achieve really unique builds?
  • World boss loot participation. I was watching Quin and he just walked into the zone just as the world boss was killed. He got loot and didn’t hit the boss or even see it die. Maybe require some minimum damage to qualify for loot?

What I’d really love to see in Diablo IV :

Meaningful legendaries with each one of them having a unique story to tell and a unique place where it could be found.

In D3 each legendary can drop from any monster, anywhere. They have a unique name, they have a unique esthetic, they have unique traits… But they don’t have a story tied to them. They aren’t tied to a specific monster or a special place.

But I want that !

I want each legendary to have it’s own story that you’d uncover while pursuing them. I want each new legendary to not just be another equipment upgrade but really a true discovery, a piece of Diablo’s lore and experience.

In that way, legendaries should be tied either to a specific boss/monster with a name and a story that add to the global lore of the game, or either they could be linked to specific hidden places in the world, like items from a lost time waiting for you to find them in the heart of a lost labyrinth full of traps and other dangers.

When I found a legendary I don’t want it to be another randomize drop.
I want to have the feeling that I really earned it. Because I was really seeking it.

Maybe I heard some people talk about it in a tavern, a famous knight that was buried a looong time ago into a deep underground temple.
The legend said he had that devastating sword that would feed on the very life and blood of its foes…
Maybe it’s just another scary tale from a drunk guy… A random talk from another NPC…
Or maybe not…

After I pay him another drink, the man would give me a hint about the place to start looking for.
I’d have to journey there and look for evidence of the existence of this hidden temple he was talking about.
Then I’d find the entrance of that temple in a dark corner of a large cave, waiting for me to unravel its long lost secrets.
In the very end, after venturing deeper in this temple, after fighting the demons and ghosts that were haunting it, I’d find this tainted chapel with the tomb of the said knight… Only to find that he was waiting for someone like me to be fool enough to come into his deadly chamber, providing the very blood he needed to regain its strength and reincarnate…
After an epic battle, I finally get a chance to drop my legendary bloodthirsty scimitar that isn’t just another random legendary with some random special effect and a bunch of random affixes.

It’s a unique item, with just a few values being randomized, and I went through what was in fact an optional quest so I could get my hand on it.

I can come back to the place later and battle the Lich again if i want a better drop of that same item, maybe the Lich has a few more little unique jewelleries that drop rarely and that could come in handy too…

Well, I guess you understood what I was trying to say. A little fallen I just burned with my fireball in the middle of the swamp shouldn’t drop that unique item that doesn’t fit in this place. Because that unique item has it’s own dungeon, it’s own story, and it’s own challenges to be tackled with before you can finally put your hand on it.

Diablo IV is meant to be a non-linear open world game where I can create and develop my own path.
So think about that…

THANK YOU!! You all truly nailed it with Diablo 4. The trailer and gameplay alone just shows us how much hard work you all put into this game and how seriously you’re taking it.

The cinematic trailer was pretty awesome…then I read about the MMO elements, the open world and the skill trees and now I’m not sure I even want this game.

“When you show evil, you make it beatable.” Can’t agree more! That’s why Bible texts call Satan “the Deceiver”. Evil in its essence is hidden, until it strikes.

As @Salzwer mentioned Azmodan, he is pretty much the opposite. Annoying and blabbering all the time. Just checked his quotes from Diablo 3 and he has a whole page. In contrast, Diablo in D2 says only “Not even death can save you from me.” and is way more memorable and impactful than the serenade of Azmodan.

Your name must be a description of your eyesight.

This is what good '99 graphics looked like.

Actually, there is a solo mode: from the Diablo IV Announcement:

“While it’s dangerous to go alone, you might prefer to solo your way through Sanctuary. Anyone can explore the campaign at their own pace, plumb randomized dungeons for rare loot, and find any item without joining a group. Keyed dungeons will offer a new endgame experience available to individual players as well as groups of up to four! You’ll want to stay tuned to find out more!”

The confusion is because people on this thread are spamming “forced solo” because they’re assuming that some of the bosses will be featured in raid-type scenarios where you won’t be able to fight them. But the above seems to suggest there will be different ways to play it.

Tell the devs we want the Necromancer at release

I like the visual style/color scheme. Something about the item icon/tooltips and ui feels off a bit IMO though. Hard to put my finger on it.

I’m glad Diablo is getting a revisit, but it seems we’re back to “Aren’t you thankful?” when it comes down to Diablo again. People railed against the online-only aspects of D3 and got shouted down by Blizz and its overly vocal minorities on it. Fast forward to 2019 and Blizz, under fire over Blitzchung pushes another controversial Diablo game. This time instead of “Don’t you guys not have phones?!” its an MMO.

While I’m always glad to see an IP get an MMO game, Diablo itself as being a game in its series (as denoted it being Diablo IV instead of say, World of Diablo, or Diablo Online or something along those lines), this game should NOT be an MMO experience. PVP areas invite ganking and therefore player frustration as trolls WILL be trolls. As the saying goes: “Don’t feed the trolls”. By creating an online-only experience and including forced-PVP areas, Blizz is inviting the trolls to ruin the game for others.

I have played MANY, MANY MMOs in my time since dialing into BBSes in 1994 on a 1200-baud modem to play MUDs like Realms of Despair. In that time, I’ve had to deal with Trolls with every game. Some games deal with it better than others, some don’t (coughArcheagecough). Path of Exile did well with its online aspect, where you only see the players in town, not in the field. I can only hope that Diablo IV goes the same route if Blizz INSISTS on ham-fisting this online-only/MMO experience upon us.

The launch trailer was amazeballs and the gameplay footage so far looks great, but I have serious worries when I remember the debacle that D3 was. I can only hope Blizz decides to do this tactfully rather than “lern2play” crap foisted on us via blue posts and effectively forcing players to play ONLY ONE spec/way to remain viable in the end-game.

In closing, this looks great, but Blizz better play their cards right lest they end up with another hot potato D3 situation in their hands.

For those of us who play Seasons on consoles I’m very concerned that I hear that D4 on consoles will have couch co-op and be offline saves.

If that is the case it is doomed from a cheating aspect.

If it has offline mode and Seasons has online saves then that is ok.

But it has to be online saves like PoE on console to stop offline save abuse.

You did not realize that one of the tomb raider was actually Rathma in disguise, he convinced the others to follow him with the excuse of gold, only to use them for the ritual, since he needed 3 humans.
So, they are not 4 random tomb raiders, it was all a plan.

Incredibly excited!

I love the return to the dark atmosphere and all around visuals you’ve shown us thus far. That cinematic was breathtaking. Truly loved everything about it. Absolutely ecstatic that we get to explore more of the Lilith & Inarius / Creation of Sanctuary story. The lore is one of the best things about the game and I hope we’re completely immersed in it. The lore-hound in me also loves hunting down tomes, etc. for additional story knowledge and while prior games included it also, I think D3 did an excellent job in that arena for players who were interested. I hope that continues.

Eagerly anticipating the reveal of the final two classes - very much hoping for the return of the crusader or similar. It’s not Diablo without a knight-like class to stoically confront the forces of hell. After the Reaper of Souls release the crusader has easily become my favorite and most-played class, I’d hate to see him excluded.

Also excited to see the return of the druid! I had imagined him differently than the shabby wide-bodied mountain man that’s been revealed, however. After seeing his character model my excitement dissipated a bit. Maybe the character customization will allow for a different enough look to appease my expectations. All the same, happy to have him back in the fold and the skills look amazing.

Overall, very much enamored with what’s been revealed so far and looking forward to more.

Why does Lilith look so unattractive? isn’t she supposed to be the queen of Succubi and therefor sexy?

I understand it’s an early build, but here’s my feedback for Blizz:
-returning of skill trees is one of the best things, but looked weird when you opened the tab. The icons should be bigger at least. Also, I hope you have a big-enough diversity of skills;
-the inventory looks very bad at the moment. You should make everything larger;
-skill effects look great. Keep it up;
-another very welcome change is the colour scheme, but it looks a bit washed out. It could be because of the stream/video. You should make the colours sharper, if they are the same in-game;
-one of the concerning things for me is the “open-world non-linear experience”. I am a fan of single player games, so I hope that you will show people like me some love, by making an interesting story mode;
