From the D4 press release: ‘While continuing to fully support solo and coordinated party play, Diablo IV will also provide opportunities for groups of players to encounter each other in the same shared world—whether to tackle bigger challenges . . . or possibly even slaughter one another in player-vs.-player combat.’
That addendum, ‘whether to tackle bigger challenges’ does make me a little nervous - it seems to me to imply that there will be a need (or certainly a benefit) to complete end-game content in a party.
Of course, that’s an assumption on my behalf, and you know what they say about assuming, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Definitely has taken some of the wind out of my sails, though.
Hello,
I have been watching the forums with this new software but not bothered to post for personal reasons, and as I said long ago, if and when D4 comes out I wont be buying it if it is an MMO. I watched the opening ceremony and the Diablo 4 cinematic as well as the game play trailer and was impressed, it does look like some D3 things came across but also a nice mix of D2 stuff. I like the darkness of course, that was sorely needed. I obviously watched wolfcry stream it as well, and when I saw the MMO aspects, I was like NNNOOOOO.
Then I went to the article here for D4 on the homepage and noted you can Solo the game if you choose. YYYEEESSS!!!
I’ll probably play MMO eventually but not until I complete it Solo.
Point is, I’ll be buying it for sure, probably the CE boxed edition again and of course preordered and picked up on release day. When is that BTW, probably 2 years. Could you make it tomorrow please. Haha!
While I wish they would do an offline mode, I know it will not happen and I’ll survive
Your Cinematics for games never cease to amaze me holy Fing S I love you for this Blizzard.
PLEASE! STAY true to what made Diablo 2 a fun game!!!
Some things that come to mind in no particular order:
1.) Endless progression on gear with tons of unique and powerful items to be found. (Not the same meta set that potentially has better stats over and over)
2.) Entering players games to Hostile and attack them
3.) Servers focused on PvP fights to flex all that loot you worked hard to get
4.) In depth skill tree allowing for great min/max potential (leveling previous skills affected skills that came after)
5.) Quests that felt rewarding giving us things like skill points
6.) Each ability feeling powerful and unique for all classes
And last but not least bring back the old school battle.net lobby UI!!!
You know the one we’d all sit in and SOCIALIZE in before entering games!!!
Louis Barriga is the best director, i already love this guy. He took everything the community asked for in those years, and i think he deserved a warmer crowd to be honest. Thanks for working on this.
My only concern is that the gameplay felt a bit unpolished but i guess that was an alpha build or something like that
I found the cinematic /trailer to be kinda meh to be honest. 4 random murder hobos wander into a temple and set stuff off? It did pick up with Lilith’s entrance though.
Funny enough, the gameplay trailer had more of that D2 vibe with the ominious dream of burning cities suggesting stuff. We’ll see.
The talent trees look like sticks, the classes are all fan favorites of the past, and yeah, its grimdark as the mob requested. We’ll see how it actually plays.
I am very happy with that announcement and with many things about diablo4. I am hyped! That said, I have some initial thoughts, mainly on itemization (for me it is the most important element of this kind of game):
I saw one runeworld (VEX + DOL) and it seems too simplistic to me. 50 % crtit chance for 7 seconds is nice dmg boost, but it changes nothing in a class. In contrast, even the simplest runeword in diablo2 were more complicated (like 4-5 stats) and add some few stats to a character. I expect runewords to be more COMPLEX and game changing, e.g. they could add a new skill (even a skill from another class?) / modification to a skill / new talent / modification to a talent. A mere buff to dmg seems too simple too me. VEX rune was named as a kind of basic rune that allow for an activation of an effect of a secondary rune. So, if we combine VEX with any other secondary rune, we get an effect of this rune after using health potion. I would prefer runewords to be the whole items rather than 1 passive effect. Or at least to be few passive effects but which are more complex than ATT / DEF buffs.
Items overall seems to be too simple. All rares (and even legendaries, despite their legendary powers) are like: X ATTACK, Y DEFENSE and 1-2 randoms stats, but these stats are taken from diablo3. Therefore, they are much simpler than these in diablo2. I dont like that ATT / DEF/ LIFE categories. They simplify too much.
That said, what is really good in my opinion about itemization is that we dont have dmg based on % of weapon dmg, but some basic dmg is tied to skiles / talents. This means that power creep will be limited. As well as that you will feel less difference betwen doing dmg without and with some items (under the assumption that they will not intoduce some stupid legnedary powers like + 800% dmg to skill X). Probably, as in diablo2, we will be able to kill some stuff even without any items.
Talents trees could be more complex (non-linear, see. PoE… or Wolcen or Last Epoch).
We could see interactions between skills (similar to these in diablo2). Yet, I like that skills incresse in power as we lvl up them.
No lvl and character requirements on items? I would like that. It would add another layer of depth.
No penalty on death despite incresing res. time? No gold/exp penality? I wish “darkness” of diablo4 would also involve its difficulty… I hope diablo4 will be difficult and that people would not complain about it… Maybe all have missed that, but Vanila diablo3 was diffcult as hell. And I like it a lot. Yet, player base forced a changes in difficulty resulting in a broader sense in what we have right now in diablo3 (analogical stuff happens in wow all the time when people are asking for nerfs for diffucult raids and dungeons… that is a distaster for me. I am Dark Souls fan though… Sorry :))
Surely all these issues can be easily solved since there is a plenty of time till premiere.
Generally, I think that d4 will not achieve a depth of itemization of diablo2. (In hearth I hope I am wrong here). But I dont see it coming right now. That said, a simpler itemization does not entail that d4 will be bad.
I was really excited when I saw the cinematic trailer and the gameplay. But now, reading about the MMO stuff, I feel the excitement disappearing pretty fast.
What made D2 a fantastic game for me was the feeling of being alone - walking and fighting your way through the gloom all by yourself. Hell, even in D3, I actually enjoy playing solo. Being forced into MMO doesn’t sit that well with me. I know it might be just me, and I will probably try D4 anyway, but right now, it’s making me feel really sad.
Yea, now that I’ve calmed down a little… I love Diablo too much to not buy it and play it even if I’ll have to group up for some part of the content. It’s still gonna be sad for me tho. I guess it could be good for immersion. I mean our situation is clearly grim in D4 so it’s kinda logical that we don’t stand a chance as a single unit. But then again, in the story we will for sure kill many bosses, probably Lilith, so why would some world boss be more difficult to kill.
I think there is a right way to do this. If they adjust the difficulty of some thing in a way that will make you want to group up if you want to complete them faster and earlier but not too difficult so you can actually solo those things later with better gear then I’m totally fine with it. And I really hope that’s the case because as much as I want this to be a personal journey I can’t deny there is something magical about sharing this love for Diablo with others in-game and I kinda don’t want my character to be the overpowered nephalem stronger then all angels and demons combined like in D3. I guess we really have to just wait.
Totally agree. That comment about ‘99 graphics is a total head-scratcher and probably came from someone who wasn’t around in ‘99. There were zero games in ‘99 that looked remotely like the demo streams we’ve seen.
While I have some hope for Diablo 4 I cannot forget Diablo 3.
Cartoon graphics, terrible writing/dialogue, stupid bosses, RMAH, Bad Communication/Updates, Deckard Cain’s death via Butterflies, terrible drop rates, and so on and so forth.
I will definitely keep and eye on Diablo 4 but I will not nearly be as invested as I was during Diablo 3’s development because to me Blizzard and the Diablo 3 Development team didn’t know how to handle a Diablo type game and we saw that again with Diablo Immortal silliness.
Hm… I was pretty excited if D4 will be announced at BlizzCon or not? Now it was announced but I don’t really have any great feelings after watcing the cinematic and gameplay trailer. The cinematic didn’t catch me. Somehow I don’t feel it.
The gamplay trailer’s graphic looked so wierd… so I’m not really amazed by D4 yet. I hope it will change!
It reminded me a lot of D2 LOD
This seems appropriate to me
skill tree, that’s great
It has a very good presentation
I did not wait something less
I like it, sir
There are 5 things that concern me …
1st Boots / Have you thought about this problem?
2nd Hardcore / OFF LINE pls, sometimes the servers kill you
3rd I like to play alone / why? Do you insist on imposing that this always has to be multiplayer?
4th Where is Deckar Cain?
5th Where is Dul Mephisto? where is mephisto?
One thing I’m interested in is how legendaries are going to be build defining without crowding out player driven customization such as skill trees. Looking forward to seeing runewords and how they function.
