D3 remake/remaster?

Let’s hope so. Companies can turn themselves around if they choose.

I disagree with this. The most money comes from the largest segment of the market (obviously?!) who are usually silent. The D:I whales (and D:I players in general outside that one guy who hangs out here) don’t tend to hang out on forums or go to BlizzCon: for one thing BlizzCon is where the sweaty, angry, PC-dwelling neckbeards smolder in their sweat-stained Metallica t-shirts crowing about their lost youth. They’re frequently the last people we should listen to when it comes to innovation or increasing markets because they’re the very antithesis of that. 99% of casual gamers are too busy to go to forums (if they even care about their existence) and definitely would be put off by something like BlizzCon. And I would bet a shiny wooden nickel that most casual gamers would prefer something new to do each time they purchase a game sequel rather than shell out for a reskinned D2 all over again.

Unfortunately, on a small echo chamber like a gaming forum where excessively negative or damning “reviews” are usually moderated out of existence, one would start to think neckbeards rule the earth.

They, in fact, do not.

(Apologies if you are a neckbeard.)

In that entire post, you only said three things worth responding to.

1:

That, is an opinion, and about the only thing you needed to say. Had you stopped there, you would have been correct.

2:

Microsoft’s largest revenue generators are related to cloud computing software. Gaming is very far down the list even after the Activision merger. In fact, the only reason Microsoft wanted to acquire Activision in the first place, was because they were one of the strongest adversarial presences in the cloud computing market - and it was entirely incidental that said cloud computing tech Activision was using, happened to focus on gaming.

It was a nifty bonus that this solidified their gaming presence. It wasn’t their main purpose by a long shot.

As such, that entire ad hominem paragraph in there means absolutely nothing in context of what actually happened and what motives actually were, and frankly you should be ashamed of even stooping to that level. Seriously, that all came out of NOWHERE and was entirely uncalled for.

3:

Empty apologies are the worst. Say what you mean, or at least mean what you say.

Nah, that’s not how discussions work. Contradiction is how children argue. I decided to explain why I thought you were wrong. Why is it my fault that you read it?

Cloud computing? Now you’re changing the scope of the discussion. Odd indeed.

I take it you’re a neckbeard.

I can attest with that. My Diablo Immortal big spender clan mates (dolphin and whale) don’t post in the diablo forum or diablo reddit or read patch note. They just login the game, play the game, and buy $150 skins if there is new one in the cash shop. Rinse and repeat.

Thus, every time the maintenance is over, their very first responses in the clan chat were “what changes in this update?” instead of just to go read the patch note by themselves or go to forums/reddit for information.

Why do you always feel the need to sling mud and insult people who don’t take the same stance you do? I could also link several cases where you’ve called people trolls or pretend to ignore them just because they disagree with you or take a stance that you didn’t.

Someone who insults people as often as you do really doesn’t have any ground to lecture anyone else on “how discussions work”. You can “discuss” just about anything with people and not have to insult them as often as you do.

At this point I’d just let the “conversation” die. I know they’re both going to claim mutual victory, it’s up to you if you want to keep playing their game. But please don’t do it on my behalf - I’m moving on from pointless forum wars.

It’s more than you or I. I just don’t understand what people like that have to gain from just insulting people for no reason.

But as you wish, chapter closed.

I want to keep playing… one day… maybe, i don’t knooooow!

D4 expansion is a rip off!

The patch that had the expansion adds a new class, a new zone, a few new endgame activities, and about 1 chapter’s worth of story that obviously ends on a cliffhanger (since, you know, annual expansion model). I’m not sure how much of that is locked behind said expansion, but the biggest determining factor in all of it is the Spiritborn.

If you don’t like that class, then it probably would be a rip off.

Last night was the first time I really noticed the fidelity degradation on 4k monitors. It really does need a asset upgrade for sure. Fonts were fuzzy and as I mentioned above, poly count is really low on the main menu models.

In game play seemed to be fine at 4k, but the menus definitely are suffering.

I just made a post (as a very casual player) about the bad quality game play in D4 compared to D3.

I don’t think the devs at Blizzard know how to make video games anymore.

It’s just some of the skills feeling underwhelming especially without gear buffs.
The graphics and campaign are above expectations.
Game needs balancing still too probably.
Gear needs to drop for what skills you are using sooner than it does.
Frozen orb is as much use as a chocolate teapot.
I’m hoping they improved the janky melee feeling too.

To be honest, I rather enjoy the illustrative look of D3 over the dark and gritty “realism” of D4.

Also, there are definitely better use of color in D3 game design than in D4. D4 is a confusing mess. Last night I was having a hell of a time making out the boss ground effects. Tells that would be vibrantly clear in D3 were muted and lacked contrast in D4. I literally had to squint at the screen to see barely visible red circles on a mud brown floor.

Graphics in D3 are very standard being over 10 years behind. At least they improved them from the release power ranger putties we had. At least there’s no butterflies in D4.

The gritty realism of D4 is hardly an improvement over D3, even with butterflies. I’m a fan of the Grim Dark aesthetic but that doesn’t mean you need to throw multiple shades of mud color pallets and muted lighting effects on everything and call it a day.

Hard disagree there.

I always said D4 didn’t feel dark enough. And D1 was the darkest out of them all… complete darkness/mist.

I think it looks great and am apparently one of few who regard the stylized graphics as beautiful. However, what I am hoping for is a native PS5 port with at least the visual improvements seen in the Xbox One X version. More glow, bloom, particles, and reflections.

I’ve only played it a few times on switch/xbox, preferring to play on PC but it does make a great couch co-op experience, back in those yesteryears when people actually met up in person.

Times change.

Warcraft 3 Reforged just announced a new update, which includes Classic HD graphics, which are not the Reforged ones (which are basically completely new ones), but rather simply the old 2000’s ones in HD.

I am just a total sucker for the ~mid 2000’s graphics. Always loved D3 first gameplay reveal trailer for that blocky graphics, aside that it should have been much much darker (like that one scene in the Wizard reveal trailer, where she is walking in a darker version of D3’s Cathedral, with a higher camera angle)

If there is a D3 Remake / Remaster, they have to make the graphics much, much darker and take a lot of bloom / ‘shiny neon-light effect’ out of the spell effects.

If they then will also add an option in the menu (just like in the new WC3 Reforged Update) to go back to the blocky style of the D3 Announcement Trailer, I will instantly buy it just for that. That blocky style just works, and the new WC3 Reforged update kinda proves that. Just make it darker.

==================================

Beyond that, they could cut some of the goofyness from the game, but then it would no longer be a simple remaster.

Theoretically, they also could add an attribute system (maybe even Skill Points ?) and scale down the numbers on sets and legendaries. If we restart again, then why not adjust some of that stuff.
