Character models haven't been fixed

Did they change Natalya to be asian too? I thought it was just the player character?

Amazon is usually my main class. The design is a complete disaster. I think, from the tweet the other day, they’re at least fixing some of the problems with her.

The consensus on the “tin foil hat” is that Natalya doesn’t join you until Act 5 (LoD) because in Act III she is busy hunting corrupted mages, as is her job. This is why she is playable in LoD but not Classic, and why if you talk to Natalya as an assassin there is no unique dialogue. You’re literally talking yourself. It’s a widely accepted theory.

Is it?

First I have heard of that. Fair enough if that is the case though.

It’s a good video. Check it out. I linked it above.

I tend to ignore booth girls at conventions, and you won’t find any scantily clad ladies on posters in my house. That’s not the point.

I have criticisms about several of the D2R characters, but you have reduced it all to sexism/misogyny, basically ad hominem attacks and an attempt to portray me as something I am not.

Fantasy heroes do not need to, nor should they look, like average people. The average american is overweight. The amazon is not going to an international archery contest.

I do not play Diablo 2 because it inspires me to want to be a 400 pound muscle bound Barbarian that slays demons and saves the world for a living. I play video games to make the pixel version of that do those things. That is the point of video games – an escape from reality into a world of impossibility that is made possible for your enjoyment.

No she is going to something more difficult. Not just standing still shooting at a target. Not getting fantastic trainer based nutrition and a comfy dorm. She is the best archer and hero taking on the demons of hell under terrible conditions.

I feel like few of the people commenting have ever tried running, shooting a bow, throwing a javelin or anything else while being saddled with DD sandbags. You pretty much don’t get to be an athlete with such a chest because the body fat goes away when training and just doing the normal life stuff.

And now that I think about it…what even do they eat in Sanctuary? How are they all not wizened wretches. I guess the peasants give the heroes food? Still, they don’t have much.

Pretty sure they DID make the amazon’s face look younger than the initial image on the website.

Yeah I think so too. Very minutely.

To cut through the lines a bit here, you are saying that the olympic athlete is better trained and fed – which would mean she is stronger, healthier, faster, more capable, than the Amazon, who we are playing in a fantasy game that literally kills all of the lords and ladies of hell?

No, I have not had the occasion. Then again:

The fact that our characters don’t eat lends silent acceptance to anorexia culture. They need to implement a food mechanic so we portray healthy lifestyle choices. /s

I am saying that the cut and chiseled Olympic athletes we see have the best nutrition, coaches, accommodating, and are not faced with demons. Even so, they have very little body fat.

The game chars are in a burned out world fighting demons, not having good nutrition or support, etc. I sort of expect them to look like it.

If the graphics of the game are real, dirty, gritty, and dark - the chars need to match. I was hesitant, but now I actually think it blends perfectly.

My only gripe is still that I will agree the amazon jaw is not right. It just does not fit. I won’t make insults though.

I always thought the inspiration for the barb was Conan the barbarian don’t know why

Oh it probably was! My point though is that if you are busy fighting demons your chances of being some sort of oiled ripped dude are…lower. Also you don’t have all the food so that factors in.

I think fantasy trope are interesting, and have a place, I just also think they are outdated and that the updated graphics don’t work with the cartoony overdone stereotypes.

I think Arnie had to slim down for a lot of his film roles because he was just too big to be believable on the screen so your probably right.

Side note the sword he had as a prop in Conan was too heavy for normal people to wave around lol.

I totally believe that. He was a very strong guy. He won a lot of titles right? I think he was famous for body building before they used him in films. I am terrible about anything film related or TV so correct me please if I am wrong on this.

I don’t think they’ll be getting “fixed.” If you paid attention to the last alpha test, they fixed some spell effect graphics that people were complaining about very quickly, leading me to believe they don’t intend to make any changes to the character models. That being said I like the new character models better for the most part, the exception being the barbarian. I like that the female characters have more of a rugged and worn look, to me they fit in more. Sorry you’re not a fan.

Yes he was Mr universe 7 times his first film was something called Hercules I think

Its terrible lol but he got a lot better.

her face is the part I like the least about her body. She still has respectable proportions lol.

The biggest thing to me though is the attire change. Again, her old attire was themed off of rogues, who are themed off Diablo 1 rogues. That is now gone, connection broken. Amazons are no longer thematically tied to rogues, which actually matters to me as an avid D1 player.

That is your opinion, and that’s fine, I just completely disagree. The heroes you play are supposed to be paragons of their order sent to investigate the rise of Diablo once again. They are not starved, malnourished peasantry just trying to eek out an existence.

the druid in D4 is enormous and powerful, in D2R he is hobo

the barb in D3 is older, but still massive and strong (female is young but powerfully built, still feminine in all her traits). Barb in D4 is unimpressive and almost out of shape. They made him oddly small in D4 too though, and I really don’t get the impulse to make a hulking berserker comparatively slight in frame compared to some other heroes.

The warrior in D1 is “normally” built, much like the paladin is. Strong and solid, but not outside of normal proportions – consistent. The paladin in D2R is well done – if anything he has bulked up. Fit that into your “broken world” narrative :stuck_out_tongue:

Compare Rogues to Amazons – the amazon is bigger chested and has blonde hair, but otherwise almost the same in armor progression. They aren’t from the same place/order, though there is a connection, so some phenotypical differences make sense. In D2R, her armor is roman/greek themed instead of looking like the rogue armor. Not entirely inappropriate given the origins of “Amazons”, but certainly not in line with the original. I took “Amazon” to mean the epitome of feminine strength, beauty and courage in D2, not that they came from Greece and were themed – I really don’t like the sort of out of the place tie to a culture that is never really talked about/represented elsewhere in the Diablo franchise.

Sorceress felt pretty true to her origins, even though they lengthened her skirt. I like it though, aesthetically – the flowing robes/skirt thing works for the sorc, and is reminiscent of the D1 Sorceror with his battle plate robes and even the d3 wizard.

They did make improvements to the models just not to the degree that people were expecting or wanting in that thread that was posted.

It’s not that we are not in favor of the change to make the amazon more realistic, it’s simply why can’t she be rugged in the old classic Diablo 2 attire?

idk whats so hard about imagining someone like Arnold, who portrayed “Conan the Barbarian” in a broken, war torn world, being the inspiration for a hulking barbarian in D2, a broken, war torn world.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.
