Captain Crimson for Season 22!

Has there been any feedback from the devs on this design choice?

Well Iria, so far the top seasonal DHs in the PTR are not using Captain Crimson (I didn’t see anybody using it in the leaderboard actually). Have you given it a try yet?

This is to be expected. Most are going to stay true to their DW vallas and add either elusive ring or mantle of channeling and call it a day. Much like 2h xbows, odyssey, etrayu, fortress, leonine, yangs, aughilds, 1h+quiver etc options that also work well with god6, captain crimson variation will be amongst those that may not get much attention, but still just as viable.

Yes, and it is quite strong. I was able to do a 2:30 GR100 with about 700 paragon, no augments, and just a level 25 Bane of the Powerful and level 16 Taeguk lol. DiEoxidE was a witness to my clear on the PTR.

I won’t be able to show you how strong on the PTR leaderboard since I started when phase 2 began but I didn’t know players could level up seasonal characters during phase 1. Thus I cannot compete against paragon 1500+ players with level 120 gems/augments.

Thanks for the feedback Iria. It is strong indeed, I have now tried it myself, and I just entered the PTR leaderboard with a GR105 (rank 898 for now). My paragon is 680, with no augments of course, and my 3 gems are between 25 and 36. I have the same build you suggested, except that I switched Wolf for Boar and Single Out for Awareness. Will definitely play this in S22!

Edit: now GR111, PTR rank 437, paragon 794

IMO it’s overall the same strength as the other top builds used, BUT…
FAR more easy to gear almost perfect, except FoT as usual and the quiver.
The belt is cubed, dawn is cubed, no crazy gauntlets needed, 2 crafted pieces, no cdr needed on bow/quiver…

BTW the shadow clones obliterate everything up to GR130, scaling mechanics need to be understood, but raxx has a video on his youtube showing how they wipe 4 elites @GR131. At GR125 the clones kills the RG by itself (DH standing doing nothing with shield pylon).
I guess nems will gain value in push because of that.

I am now at GR117, PTR rank 199, paragon 835. I think this build is stronger than the usual ones, because all the other players around this ranking have higher paragons.

Edit: and now I finally reached GR120, PTR rank 145, paragon 863. I think it will be difficult to go much higher without augments (and/or more paragons), but I find this really promising for S22

If you stategize the pylon use to maximize clone effectiveness, you probably could do 125 or even higher, with minimal fishing (at least acceptable map with ok mobs).
Clear trash to proc any pylon, then gather all elites at the same place on the map, break all the pylon spawns, go back take the pylon and watch the clone wipe the elites.
Go next map, should have new pylon, rinse & repeat. And ofc save a pylon for boss.

I’d like to, but can’t even log to ptr, fails to load heros ;(

Sit back and let the clones take care of the whirling DH killers

If you like pushing…you should try Bonespear-Necro. It can do 125 with simmlar stats and is honestly a lot of fun to play

Not the right thread for it, but yeah, it’s the plan.

This is an elite hunting variant similarly powerful to the standard one, and better on RG. Typically played like impale, but able to clear trash too with reasonable amount of AD.
And especially, does not require fishing, or very minimal (I hate fishing).
I witnessed a 140 ptr clear with this build, 5k paragon, good gear, and NON season, so -10/11GR from S22 variant with reilena. GR150 clears incoming, the only issue will be survival.

Fixed that issue for you. Have fun facetanking stuff on 130+

Thanks for the idea. I haven’t played necro often though… Is this build easy to play?

First time im really diving deep into necro for me too.

And yes, after a little troublesome start i have a build up and running that just rips through 128+ already , is tanky as hell and can be played by people free from skill , just like me.

So people with some talent can prob push it way higher

It is for Necro what the GoD-Set is for DH but i meanwhile like it more.

Yesterday i had a powerpylon…and was critting for 1000 T with one of the bonespears and was just like “aahhhhww i needed that in my nerdlife”

OK will give it a try - any good guides out there?

Not yet, but i consider you to be pretty smart. Most things are selfexplanatory.

There are some advanced builds out there that use briggs wrath , so you can superfast pixel mobs if you want to and take advantage of Areadmg.

The Link ive posted is the version i play now. It is pretty tanky
The Fratality-Aura automatically curses enemies around you so you want to stack some +Pickupradius. This then Triggers the belt that gives you 50% Damage-Reduction.

The Cold-Rune from Grim-Scythe gives you Attackspeed from the skill itself+ Movespeed via your Offhand

The cubed Volation Shoulders + Sunstone give you an additonal 50 % DR + x-90% DR.

And after all of that you gain another 50% Dr from the Set and the remaing dmg is split between you and your sims xD
This setup , i call it “tanky tom” plays very simmilar to a Poison-Scythe Necro and is about as tanky.
You just use Grim Scythe a few times until your essence is almost Max, and then you gun everything down with bonespears and teleport into an Occuring if your follower spawns one.

I think youll have it up and running in a second. If you need a Powerlevel, just whisper me ingame. Psikill#1264

Thanks mate! Much appreciated.

For those who wants to see the clear I talked about (only 5k para used, yeah only… right), as I can’t post links, search for soulnsane twitch channel, the vidéo 3:23:49 length is the one. At the 3hours mark he plays the elite hunting variant I posted, before that it’s the briggs version. They are similar according to him, but the briggs one requires more skill to get right and is more challenging, but probably more fun.
BTW he’s french so you probably won’t understand sh*t to what he says but who cares right

Hey guys, not to sound rude but can we move the Necro discussion to the Necro forum or make a new thread about it? I just don’t want new players who stumble upon this thread, who want to learn more about the Captain Crimson setup for DH, to be confused with all the Necro builds!

Thanks

The Captain Crimson variation is very comfortable to play with. It’s so good and easy to set up that I am strongly in favor of rolling out another DH in season 22, and not bothering with the op bombsader. The main reason I don’t want to go with sader is because I can’t imagine spending hundreds of hours reforging/rerolling to get the ideal gear, and going for thorns adds another layer of rng to their gear, besides some really annoying pieces (like the weapon, rolling weapon damage into cdr or ad is a pain).

Back to DH, I cleared 122 pretty easily and that put me in the top 200 (150 something I think). I have tried playing around with DW and adding mantle of channeling, or using CoE and elusive, plus some other off-meta variations, and I could not make anything come close to GoD6CC.

The thing I noticed that CC affords where everything else falls short is the toughness. You are tanky as hell without sacrificing much (if any) damage. In fact, you more than make up for any damage loss by being able to position more effictively, and stand in oculus rings more easily. It’s also nice to just keep doing damage and not worry about CoE rotations.

PTR is so weird, you could be really good and get a top spot on leaderboard with some useless skill, and then everyone after you is going to use that same skill no matter what. For example, I still cannot grasp why crusaders are using the unstoppable force rune on Laws of Valor, other than the fact that some guy was using it on day 1 when he got rank 1 (the rune reduces wrath cost of all skills by 50%, but as far as I can tell the current sader meta doesn’t even use spenders).

So, I’m not surprised that you barely see any captain crimsons on the leaderboard. Still, I have a feeling people are going to catch on; it is just too good to pass up.
