Most companies advertise a product or service, not a random chance to obtain a product or service.

When the element of luck is involved that is gambling or a lottery. These are in fact regulated in the US. There are government entities that regulate gambling in Las Vegas. State lotteries have to list the odds of winning.

Loot boxes or similar mechanics are relatively new. It takes a bit for the legislative/legal process to catch up. Factuallly, we know that two countries block D:I since it does not comply with their laws.

not to mention when you go to the store and buy a candy bar you can request them NOT to sell your contact info to other companies and get you placed on mailing lists and by law they MUST comply

No, it’s not. The game has been data-mined, we have the math. You people defending the game just refuse to even look at it. “Oh, that’s not evidence I need to see it in video form!” You people will do anything you can to argue against your own self-interest. It is sad really. And to make it worse you’re doing this to shill for a company that has for the past few years been horrible to its own industry and customers.

And by the way, if you think Blizzard will not put whales in PVP and other games with free players you are fooling yourself. You know they have an algorithm set up to make whales feel good for spending money. And they will do it by putting free players against them as cannon fodder. “Oh but Blizzard will never lie to me. They will molest women but not lie to me!”

That is not true. Whales and f2p players can and are matched in the same PvP game right now.

here lately Blizzard doesnt have the best track record in restoring their reputation and youd think they be walking on eggshells trying to regain that trust but no its the same old pants on head mentality weve come to expect

its one thing to shoot yourself in the foot but once again theyve gone the extra mile and are using a rocket launcher

Then don’t play a mobile game. There are a ton of others liking a free game.

well i dont^^
its not very enjoyable even without the ads

Even without playing, there is still plenty of reason to criticize what the game is doing. And hopefully see change happening one way or another; devs changing course (very unlikely), or governments regulating their bad behavior.

Hard to care much about people who just want free stuff tbh, especially when they dont care about the consequences.

I find it quite good for a mobile game. Got one ad only. So basically free.

I just love having people on ignore and they still insist on replying… Daft

There are definitely many enjoying D:I…

however…

The user metacritic score is rrather low (e.g. 0.8 on iOS/ overwhelming dislike) for a good resson. I realize that this is not an accurate representative of the playerbase, but it does demonstrate that a significant fraction are dissatisfied.

Awaken legendaries can be obtained only via money.
Also, paying and having all today, or optaining that stuff in 1000hours of grinding - this is like that stuff is locked.

There are astounding, though not surprising, levels of intellectual dishonesty and bad faith arguments running wild in this thread and every thread about D:I’s monetization model. We’ve got folks comparing D:I to D2JSP, folks arguing over the semantics of “pay to win,” and folks arguing that if Blizzard didn’t stuff D:I full of loot boxes the cost of game development would be too high and how will they keep the lights on, cry, cry?

:face_vomiting: :face_vomiting: :face_vomiting:

Call it what you want: Pay to win, pay to compete, pay for access equity, it doesn’t matter. The fact–not an opinion, the fact– is that D:I uses predatory gambling and MTX models to restrict access to content (whether permanently or over long periods of time), and uses shady, manipulative tactics to incentivize people to cut in line, so to speak, by spending real money.

Fact: They could have simply sold the complete, full game for a fixed price and made a fortune. They didn’t because loot boxes and MTX models make corporate publishers mountains of money beyond fixed price point products, and generate long-term revenue streams. In other words, they weren’t content to make a ton of money. They want to make all the money.

Fact: Loot boxes and MTX models are integral to the game. If they weren’t, they would have been pulled to release the game in markets where such monetization models are banned.

Fact: Loot boxes and MTX models are bad for the games industry. Unless, of course, you’re Bobby Kotick.

You and I disagree on many things but we agree that the monetization of p2w D:I is horrendous.

I can not fathom some of the counterarguments that have been made.

Does not count as content.

Another fine example of you not tolerating others having an opinion…
Just sad to see a somewhat respected person steps down the latter to act like you do.

I see using personal definitions as opposed to the factual ones are still going strong here.

Yeah. At first I thought that surely, surely some of these ardent D:I defenders will get the hint and cool off.

But 900 posts later . . . :eyes:
