Why Economy Arguments are Utter Garbage (in regards to P8)

Counter arument.

I have one hour to play. I want to play with other human beings in my multiplayer RPG. There are less people to play with because more and more people are busy farming/power leveling in private /players 8 games. Thus it’s harder to find a game.

There again is a solution to your issue. Single player.

There would be no solution to the problem for me this change creates.

Of course it does, there is certain demand for items on market, if these items are more easily accessible via higher drop rate, price will go down significantly much faster.

It doesnt work like that, runes are not just currency, they are frequently used into rune words and for inserting into items. You need only one shako usualy, but you will want Mal runes constantly.

and proof is where?

Increased drop rate actualy kill economy faster, i have seen it on private d2 realms with increased drop.

Leveling is social, casual MF-leveling is social, self-found characters are social up until they’re farming for high runes and griphons, as they can’t trade.

You should want more people online – and I’m not online right now because bots get the better deal.

In this instance, the lack of players 8 and bots being hyper-effective means
-1 real player online
+incentive for people to run bots

That’s actually pretty brilliant, make it difficult enough that it’s pointless to do it solo (as far as farming goes) so you at least need to be with a friend or two. Kudos.

This is incorrect. Because group play is actually DISCOURAGED by not having /players online and people don’t seem to get this.

Using the drop calculator here https://dropcalc.silospen.com/item.php let’s look at the shako example.

A Shako on p1 with no MF has a 1:1842 chance to drop.
A shako on p8 has a 1:1501 chance to drop

This means that if your group was looking for a Shako, it would actually be more beneficial to play 8 different games and run 8 different mephisto runs. Then your chances of getting that Shako increase exponentially better than p8. This actually discourages people from playing as a group because you go from having a 0.06% chance of having it drop on p8, to having a 0.05% chance of dropping on p1. However, you have 8 different chances of doing so because you are doing it in 8 different games.

Man if you want /players 8 you aren’t looking to play with other people to begin with. We both know that’s true.

again, that isn’t true. I want to play with my core group of 1-2 friends that play this game, yet not having /players discourages me from doing so because of what i posted above.

And there is a 1:1 chance than playing solo in a /players 8 game means no one is playing together.

Again, no there isn’t, because i could play with my 1 or 2 friends on /players 8 and we will be able to clear it much much faster than separately on p8, because monsters also scale, just not fast enough for p8 to make much of a difference when there are actually 8 players.

What you are asking for is TCP/IP games. Something D2R removed. I’d love to see those back. That doesn’t mean /players should be added to Bnet.

This is where the players8 jokers lose all credibility every single time. Not only is it incredibly common and simple to perform split farming, it’s also super rewarding. You get to meet new people, you get to trade with people in those games, you have a crowd to brag to when you drop something you were looking for.

They seem to forget that this is an online game that requires at least a minimal amount of interaction to reap the greatest benefits. And completely ignore the fact that their idea of how the game should be played exists in every way shape and form in this thing called single player.

You are missing the point. The math doesn’t lie. It is statistically more beneficial to always play by yourself. What they need to do is completely rework the player counts to make it actually beneficial to play with people that way when i play duo with a single friend we get 2x the drops together with 2x the difficulty.

split farming is statistically worse then just farming by yourself, because you exponentially increase the monster HP while only slightly increasing the drop chance.

How can it be worse if I enjoy it so much lol. I wouldn’t want to play any other way than with other players …

We are measuring social interaction with stats now?

Because it takes you 4x as long to kill the monsters and you don’t get 4x the drops.

You have yet to explain to me how farming with more people is statistically better for drops than farming solo with those same number of people.

i’m sorry but the drop system is designed to be free for all, if something drops you need to get it before someone else does. that’s how the game works (:

i run mf games with 8 people and often 4 of us are in cows or chaos at the same time. we fight the same monsters and if something good drops we all jump on it. that’s how the game was designed and i like it that way. if you don’t like that i’m sorry? i don’t know what to tell you.

sometimes you get a little leecher following you around not helping out and that’s why we can kill other players - another part of game design i enjoy. or if i’m feeling kind i’ll just message the other players to join a private game for the next run

You have yet to explain where you think I ever said this. Couldn’t care less about efficacy. If I wanna get drunk and play some D2 at 3am with some randos… then by George I wanna do it.

If all I cared about was efficiency I’d whip out my credit card and get the farming over with in 5 minutes.

This isn’t the point that is being made, it’s about having /players online.

The argument is basically, people don’t want /players because they think it would ruin the economy or discourage people from playing together. I’m saying that it does the opposite of those things. I am actively DISCOURAGED from playing with other people, because of my above example:

A Shako on p1 with no MF has a 1:1842 chance to drop.
A shako on p8 has a 1:1501 chance to drop

This means it is mathematically better for 8 of us to split up into 8 different games and farm that shako, then trying to do it together in a single game. This DISCOURAGES me and my friends from playing together. Additionally, it doesn’t impact the economy that massively because not everyone can clear /players 8.

The real solution though isn’t a simple let /players work online, it’s a better system in general. If i have 2 people in a game, we should get 2x the drops and the monsters should be 2x as difficult/long to kill. Obviously you can’t scale that perfectly, but that should be the goal. If you want to ENCOURAGE group play, you’d want to actually increase the drops MORE or decrease the difficulty,

so for example each player increases difficulty by 50% but increases drop rate by 100%. This type of thing would ENCOURAGE people to group together as it would be much more beneficial to play together than separately.
