I came from D3. I was a totally noob when I started D2R.
3 weeks later, I am now facerolling D2R… you heard me… I facerolled everything in Hell… Baal, Mephisto, Nihlathak, the Summoner, Stygian Dolls, Blood Lords, Tomb Vipers, Succubus, Ghosts, etc. My Rogue can now kill Tomb Vipers without being hit as she outrange them. Forgot to mention… I did everything on Solo with no Trading.
I have enjoyed my progression from Normal to Nightmare, from Nightmare to Hell. The first visits… first playthroughs were fun. But the moment I got runewords with runes above Lum in quality, I started facerolling at level 85. Nothing on level 99 that I cant kill as level 85. I dont fall on the gimmick of dying from non-boss in D2R. People die on them becoz of noobity or inexperienced… sorry if I am harsh. If you are swarmed or something is in your tail, a melee mob that hits like a truck… DONT FREAKIN MOVE BECOZ YOUR SHIELD BLOCK AND DEFENSE GOES TO ZERO. Just keep that in mind, and everything in the game would be a faceroll.
Ubers is a gimmick fight… it would conclude into you Vs the Immune Boss. And killing facerolled Nihlathak or the Summoner for 300x to get 1 key? Ridiculous. I will not kill myself for it.
I enjoyed D2R while I was progressing. But once I killed Baal Hell, it got easier… now I am facerolling everything. I wish D2R has higher difficulty. At least on D3, GR150 still punches back. Both D2 and D3 is a game of grind/farm. D2 is easier. I love both games. I just wish that D4 would be as great as them.

I agree D2 does not have an equivalent to 100-150 grifts. below lvl 100 grift to me is equivalent to solo hell in D2/dclone/ubers. but the difference is D2 has a PvP scene and that to me is the 100-150 grifts. True end game of D2 is PvP. Yes a lot of people don’t care about PvP and even if they don’t PvP doesn’t mean D2 isn’t as good as D3, there are still plenty of PvM stuff to do. But PvP is a huge area that makes D2 what it is and very much different to D3.
bait thread.
d2 is miles better in almost every way
i’ll give d3 it’s props in the way it feels to play, attacking feels amazing
but d2 is just simply better in pretty much every other way
in short: go back to d3

you came from d3 so i know you aren’t used to this lol. start building wealth and trading
start building new chars too maybe?
there’s plenty of things you can do
you have a char that can face roll? GOOD. That’s just the start of this game. now start farming and selling gear for runes or for new gear to build another character.
you are at the start of the game, not the end.
the game truly starts when you have a character that can mf hell easily
Couldn’t agree more. But like all things in life as a consumer I want my Nostalgia with a side of addictive…

PvP is a game of who’s on top of the food chain. It can be easily won by hardcore no Life people. I had my days when I was young where I mercilessly kill players over and over and drank their tears over and over becoz I had no Life back then… Was on Vanilla WoW up to WoTLK WoW.
But I am now Casual. I started the game late. People were already level 85s when I started as level 1. And you want me to join the game of who’s on top of the foodchain game? I would be slaughtered over and over. If I am still the same young guy who I was before in WoW, I would play that PvP game.

I think you’re getting BM pub PK mixed up with GM PK and organized PK events… Either way you don’t need absolutely godly gear to do well in D2 PvP, there are a lot of builds that will naturally do a load of damage. Strategy and proper movement is more important than gear. and plus, don’t you think getting to level 150 grift is the same thing, it is for “hardcore no life people”…? no matter what both games can be played up to a certain point for casuals and both games feature aspects that requires WEEKS & MONTHS of dedication.
Can take a naked trap assassin and PK lvl 99’s…
Yup. I can do GR150… but it would be slow climb. But I will still get there… just no rush. Like this D2R game. People reached 85 already when I started at level 1. 3 weeks later, I destroyed Baal Hell too… under my own play time.
I was expecting 3 months or 6 months to beat D2R but somehow I did it in 3 weeks. Becoz I am no noob as I am good at D3 leveling at Torment 15… as Casual.

Not only the looting in D2 is boring… the fact that only certain character builds are “viable”, that there are a ton character builds that are super expensive in terms of Runes/Uniques to even be playable.
And then there is the repetition of entering a game, running to the Council… killing it, looting it… exit the game, and rinse, lather repeat.

what does viable mean to you? there are a couple dozens builds in this game that can easily solo hell without godly gear. how is that not good enough for you?
expensive rare uniques/high runes/etc are all END GAME gear that is UNNECESSARY to solo hell on your own. if you think you need godly gear to get through hell then you’re playing wrong, putting 20 points into static shock is not going to help you. this is why blizz made the decision to give everyeone ALL spells in D3 because too many noobs do not know how to properly allocate their spell points…
ALL ARPG are REPETITIVE. give me one ARPG that isn’t…
Oh and grinding GRs till your eyes bleed to get higher paragon, better augments, etc… are not doing the same thing over and over again. D2R is just different tasks that you rinse and repeat chasing after loot instead of paragon.
The real and honest answer is because it isn’t
I farm for better gear for me to kill a better boss. But the Best Boss out there, I FACEROLLED IT ALREADY. What more gear should I need if the hardest Boss is being facerolled with what I have.
I tried to play an alt for fun. But that alt just gets powerful stuffs from my main to faceroll everything. My alt is facerolling the content too. Nah, facerolling is fun in first few times. But facerolling over and over without a greater mob to threaten me, nah… Sorry I am done.
Here’s my alt Zealot… destroying Diablo on Normal all on Solo… at level 26. Should be level 25 but I kept on disconnecting that I have to re-clear the area causing me to level up unintentionally.
a level 25 killing normal diablo is easy lol. it’s not noteworthy or crazy at all, it’s actually almost over leveled lol
but yeah you are still used to d3 mechanics. gearing for a tougher boss continually is a d3 thing
d2 is about variety and trading.
make a build that requires expensive gear and try and farm / trade up to it. i.e. ww sin or bear sorcc

I have 5 characters around Level 90 and I have done maybe 20-30 Baal runs, total. All combined.
Don’t ask me how many chaos tho
make a fireclaw druid or zeal/enchant sorc, trust me they are both incredibly fun to gear & play
This also happens all the time on the D3 forum where someone will claim that D2 is superior to D3. To each their own.
Correct. it is simply a matter of taste.

Why does it matter how or where or what people waste their time with? Why is playing D2 not a valid way to waste time, but doing whatever you think is not wasting time, or a better way to waste time, is? If I ever make it to retirement you can be assured I’ll be inside playing video games (maybe even still D2), and I wouldn’t/couldn’t be happier. Life’s too short to not play D2
I have glass cannon toons on D3 doing high Grifts… a Jade Harvester Witch Doctor and all its builds, a Corpse Lance Necro and all its build. I carry people in there… they can all AFK while I kill everything. The dynamic of the fights in D3 is awesome… dodge here/ dodge there… part of the gameplay. Remember the Butcher fight when on progression? Remember Malthael fight when on progression… Those fights are very movement-heavy… That’s 10/10.
Not like on D2, I absorb everything. Stygian Dolls swarming you in1 sec. Vipers charging you at Mach10… They are not meant to be dodged. You absorb all of them. In D2, almost all fights are Tank and Spank. Still love D2R though. D3 came after D2 so it’s expected D3 should be better. Again, I hope D4 would be as great as these D2 and D3.
