It’s also a nostalgia driven game…
Imagine being given all the old Gi Joe’s or Heman toys in a box brand new… that kind of nerdy desire… or pick your poison of nerdy things to compare here.

I suspect that no new areas are coming; however, as D3 illustrates, they can thrown in some new items (or in D2 this could include runewords) that happen in patches/associated with new ladder. I would not expect any new changes until after the first ladder ended.
Having said that, controllers have further exacerbated a historical problem with FFA loot and may lead to future optional changes. That discussion should be left for another thread.
ehhh runewords perhaps…since it requires no graphical additions but definitely no new items…
again what would happen when you hit “G” with a new unique with a new unique image? maybe they pigeonholed themselves by including legacy mode but I think that logic goes to show they are going to keep it as original to classic D2 as possible. From a business standpoint I would much rather have my artists and developers creating content for D4 & immortal. Just get D2R as close to a playable state for as many people, throw on the ladder for who can race to 99 the quickest, & get D4 ready would be my business plan…
Had a friend as a boy whose Mom would never let me play with his toys… like he was some special POS… D3 is fun like that Mom…
They could simply take a pre-existing D2 item asset and change its color for a new item. This would be a solution. Then there would be no problem with toggling video settings.
Also, it would not require a significant investment in doing the art. Also, business wise they want to keep interest in the diablo franchise until D4 was released. Throwing an occasional bone to D2R players is fairly minimal effort while keeping a playerbase more engages that will help future sales. Since D4 release date has been delayed even further, it makes sense why Blizzard has said that D2R is a live game service.
Let me get this right. Your answer to my Noob reply is this? I think I rest my case. Because I know as well as you do, doing Baal, Diablo, Nilathak and a few other runs that most people don’t use because they are not productive, doesn’t change my assumption much.
By the way, I’ve played this game since it came out, and with PlugY and now D2R and to say D2 is so much different than D3 is BOLOGNA!
i’m not the only one that has said this to you. you got a dozen replies. d2r isn’t for you, life goes on.
Makes a comparison thread for a popular game and expects what? lol
right you have good logic but the argument could also be classic d2 managed to survive without many significant changes/additions since 1.11. The graphic updates is really enough for many of us to be hooked on the game for years to come just like with the original. it’ll be interesting to see how d2r evolves.
This game just became my new retirement home… lol
pretty much mine too lol. when i was a teen playing classic d2 in the early 2000s i never thought i would ever be in this position, playing d2 in modern graphics while i work from home xD tis the life
Some dreams do come true… 🥲
Hold on one sec, OP, I Just threw up
Let me get this right… you came to the d2r forums to post about d3, yet are surprised people don’t want to hear about d3 nor immortal? Then over look the real challenge in d2r? I like taking ideas for builds and seeing just how cheap I can do them for… why default to the theory every class needs teleport to make it to hell? Is teleport useful? That wasn’t the question nor the point… wonder how wow players would feel if their forums were full of why d2r is better than wow posts… interesting thoughts I tell ya.
TBH I know why people like d3 better than d2.But they should have played the vanilla before they knew what they were getting into.It can suck being a new player to d2 and not knowing how to spec right, what stats are actually the best on rare items etc etc.Diablo 3 wasnt anything like this and we all know that.I played Diablo 3 and liked it but not nearly as much as d3.But coming from d3 which is a very user friendly diablo to put it bluntly then throw into a mix of OG d2 players that easy solo ubers and crush new players in PK while the new players have problems killing a hell Baal lol…I get it.I hope these people stay longer and realize how much depper of a game this is compared to diablo 3
That’s just sad man. Putting aside our differences on our opinion of games, this or any other game should NOT be part of your retirement. Enjoy any game you get pleasure from, but don’t marry any of them. Life is too short to waste it inside playing video games all day.
D2 and D3 are two different flavors of the game. Both cover the playstyles, patience levels and time constraints of the majority of the entire Diablo player base. It’s not important which one is better. What is important is that you play Diablo.
I won’t touch Diablo:Immortal though.
It was a bit of a joke my guy, happy guy (married, kids, dogs that get way more of my time)
why does this type of conversation always devolve into this kind of comment? life is long enough to have some hobbies dude. what is the difference between playing one game you love for many years versus 100 different games for a few months at a time for a few years? i have a 12 year old son, fiance, 40 hour stay at home job and i play tennis almost everyday…still have plenty of time to play d2/d2r…
In that case, my apologies. I don’t think people should take video games too seriously. They’re fun and provide an escape, but they have a certain limit.
