That’s a strange opinion to have. Do clarify what makes a “Diablo” game?
Why don’t I consider it a diablo game?
Well…It should probably have diablo in it, for starters lol. But beyond that oversight:
none of the people who created Diablo are involved anymore or even consulted for their ideas on where the series should be going.
Just like I don’t consider Star Wars after George Lucas to be Star Wars. It’s just high budget fan fiction.
The game has also left behind its signature diablo feel and has joined POE, LE, etc in that modern style of ARPG with the cooldowns, and the weird little forward dash maneuver.
Mind you, this isn’t a diablo 4 thing. It left its identity behind years ago in diablo 3.
No stats, no skill points, 2 dozen difficulty levels, always switching back and forth between them because the game is poorly balanced.
Diablo 4 might’ve clawed back a skill tree, but it remains just as departed from diablo 1 and 2 as diablo 3 is.
And even little things… I remember playing diablo 3 thinking “why when I attack, is my weapon still holstered, and some fake weapon is created in front of me that swings at the enemy. What is this? I wanna use MY weapon”
The reason for this is that weapons aren’t even weapons in these games. They’re just stat modifiers.
Blizzard is yet to make a Good Diablo game
The forum sure slowed down as of late. Enjoy your Vessel of Boredom.
Eh I think a lot of people are taking a break once they achieve w/e it is they wished to accomplish for this current season. I mean with nothing new or any meaningful changes as of late, it’s basically rinse and repeat for the past few cycles. I know I’m taking a break because I’m waiting on new PC hardware to hit the market for a new Desktop system to replace the one I had from 2010 that had a first generation i7. Kind of crazy that it lasted 14 generations before Intel opted to retire the naming scheme along with Hyperthreading(which if memory serves it had). Arrow Lake comes out later this month but their slides are blatantly misleading as it’ll be trading blows with Zen 5 and getting wrecked by it’s 3D variants while being more expensive and consuming more energy in the process. If Arrow Lake doesn’t degrade and bluntly die, its a win for Intel I suppose.
Not much better on GPU side of things though. Nothing new until early 2025 and NVidia intends to fleece anyone dumb enough to buy the 5090(expect $2500… enough said) or a 5080(rumored to be $1200-1500… clearly didn’t learn their 4080 lesson). Granted they can get away with it because AMD won’t be competing with them at the high end with the top RDNA 4 GPU that, at best, will trade blows with a 4080 at a price point that has to be $500(if not less) for it to remotely compete.
TLDR: People have reasons for going quiet. For me, it’s due to a new Desktop system in the works that I hope to bring to life for Civ 7(and D2R) next year.
For those who have seen me around know what I would say about the xpac, let’s skip that.
Anyway,
I noticed the Diablo devs put WoW’s Frostmourne inside of D4 for roughly $30 USD. Funny enough on inspection D4’s Frostmourne mirrors the replica for sale on Blizzard’s Store. The skull is made of metalic material instead of being an actual skull (Which it is in WoW), and the blade is made of earthly metal instead of the enchanted steel used for the original. Everyone who buys the D4’s Frostmourne is running around in cosplay.
I wonder if this is an inside joke at Blizzard:
“Sure, give them the ‘cosplay’ Frostmourne.”
At this point, why not gigantic b00b sliders and male th0ngs. Like why not? What more could you possibly lose? Diablo has become a cosmetic cash cow for the lore illiterate.
I want to play the expansion but I didn’t buy it yet. Mtx shop and paid battle pass were supposed to pay for content. This is greedy monetisation striking back again. Path of Exile and Diablo Immortal are getting it for free then why do I have to pay in D4 if it also has microtransactions?
Wrong
You get it for free only with POE
With immortal you still have to pay to be the power the game has been designed for
Maybe somewhere in endgame but I dunno, didn’t care. I only played through story once and didn’t have to buy anything. New classes like Blood Knight and Tempest are free to play too.
Okay dude. Being a jerk is your strong suit I guess. Just shared my experience. I didn’t pay for anything in Immortal and that’s it. Don’t care about pvp, competing with whales and all that.
I don’t care about your experience
It’s irrelevant and mostly biased
It doesn’t change the fact that the game is balanced for you to pay
In D2 terms
Non-P2w players base game is /players 8 in term of difficulty
And paying reduces it to p7,p6, doesn to p1
About D2 issues like Enigmas day 3 ladder, botters, 7 guys afking to boost monsters for 1, d2jsp I complained on the forum but gotta move on with life if nothing is being done about it. Still can enjoy the game solo at my own pace as it is not mmo. About mtx I vote with my wallet and ignore them completely too.
Time to enigma isn’t the issue
Enigma is the issue
+1 d4 is kinda trash.
So what would you say to people who enjoyed Diablo 3?
Is a title not a title unless it has the people who worked on the original?
What do you think of the Silmarillion? Or Rings of Power? Or Wheel of Time? Or any adaptation show, game, etc. Is Hogwarts Legacy not a Harry Potter/Hogwarts game? The author didn’t consult on that game.
There’s plenty of things that don’t have the original people consulting. What are the rules, here?
We do. Thanks. Next they need to uncap paragon. Or give us something to gain after 300.
Enjoy your monetized D3 remake/powercreep treadmill.
Hey, Im happy they’ve found something they like. I used to play diablo 3 before resurrected came out…
It’s not like a measure of fun can’t be had on it.
I haven’t seen any of those shows except rings of power, and unfortunately, Tolkien would be rolling in his grave.
If not for the absurdity that was season 1, surely Elrond making out with his mother in law in season 2 would do it lol
Obviously blizz owns the rights to the IP, and what ever they do with it now becomes official.
When there is strong dedication to remain true to the original material, it’s a lot easier to accept it as official, or canon.
I don’t feel that way about the last 3 diablo games (counting immortal). But at the end of the day….this is all just an opinion
Way more fun than D2R.
