They gave in already

This is not a cave in? this is a refresh of things that has prob been in development for years but never went live due to a lack of players. you purists are nuts if you think people at blizzard all of a sudden want to change this game to make it better its one of the best core games of all time they literally could not do anything to it to ruin it. a house built on a strong foundation

I made a bowazon (because I found mavina’s) a MA assassin with pheonix strike (for fun) and I’ve got skele mages on my summon necro but I would still prefer they work on the basics like in game chat spam bots fixing the lobby etc etc before they do this.

Maybe they will do both we will have to wait and see I suppose.

Let me guess, you never played d2 before 1.13. They made regular balance tweaks that completely invalidated builds and elevated new ones and they did so for several years. Go look up the patch notes for v1.8 - v1.13.

Then the game was in limbo for a decade.

And then they acknowledged the player base and invested new work into it, finally.

But god forbid those evil devs ever make a change again, because the balance and variety of viable builds is perfect the way it is somehow?

This is Blizzard.

Somehow I don’t think this comment will age too well, old friend.

I played melee since release, I don’t understand why people keep saying it’s unviable.

Shhh I am OG Diablo here and it needs a face lift. I’m cool with some tweaks and new rune words.

Is that why you quit D3 early??

I like the proposed changes and think it’s a positive for the game to buff some terrible builds.
On the other hand the slippery slope/power creep fears are very real and legit worries. So I do understand where purists are coming from and a fear of d2 slowly morphing into d3

We ARE the loyal fans, we have been playing D2 most likely longer than you ever did and guess what? WE ARE HAPPY FOR THE CHANGES AND WANT MORE!

I left d3 early because i didnt like game core mechanics, they removed trading and pvp was nonexistent. They also didnt allow player killing. D3 game mechanics are dumbed down and its boring to play. It lacks dept which D2 has. You can learn stuff about D2 for years. There is nothing to learn in D3. You knowledge of game doest matter there. It is also much easier. I also hated removal of attack rating and defense as it is in D2. Always hits on chars and monsters sucks.

Gave in to what? Did you buy the game thinking that changes wouldn’t be made? It was basically an open secret that we should expect changes.

“some changes” is different than drastically changing meta PvP builds and mechanics, as well as adding new content every 4 months, possibly rendering years of dedicated character and item building moot with just 1 ill-advised content patch.

Hopefully you can understand this, from a gameplay and PvP point of view.

what’s hilarious is that game mode would have maybe 5-10% of the population, the people who think they are purists but aren’t would come over and play with the rest of us that are extremely excited for the updates.

Hammerdin/Blizz sorc meta w/ Waheed is boring. Buckle up boys, fun is on the way!

I can understand and sympathize with the pvp community, but change isn’t always bad in pvp - y’all will have a blast figuring out new builds and new metas. As long as things don’t get too cringey in pvp (i.e. Fist of the Heavens auto target shenanigans becoming THE only pvp build), it’ll be fun and fine. Blizz North didn’t balance much for pvp in the past, and a meta evolved over years of theorycrafting and playtesting. Now it can be done again, this is a TBD situation for sure, but I remain optimistic.

in Aku voice Long ago in a distant land, I, Veszerin, sought to unleash supremacy in hardcore mode. But alas I sucked.

Even once I got hang of the game, Blizzard released these things called “runewords” making most builds that were based on the acquisition of certain uniques irrelevant.

We moaned, and even cried! That Blizzard devs were evil! How dare they create a new ladder mode where our characters that we had poured our sweat into were worthless. Or create new runewords, again (1.10) and yet again (1.11).

But you know what? Here I am, over 15 years later, here to laugh at all the whiners that are so hurt, so inconsolable, that the game might possibly receive another balance patch (when it received several in the 0xs), because they got used to the game being constant in the 1Xs and they somehow believe that they are the ‘regulars’ and old timers in this game.

You guessed wrong. By the way, there was no patch 1.8 for D2 nor D2 LOD, so nothing for me to look up.

I simply spoke what I experienced with the newer D3 with all the so-called community feedback, and it seems to me it is happening with D2R as well, or at least about to. Keep adjusting the balance, but to whose standard? You thought the game was in limbo for a decade, but many thinks differently and many kept playing. And for many, it’s somewhat frustrating to see a game they love become something they can’t recognize. I sure hope that doesn’t happen, but if it does, I guess many will just enjoy the free time they get away from the game, judging from the offline time from my D3 friend list.

he meant 1.08 not 1.8 - hopefully that helps you in your search…

but you kind of proved his point in your first sentence.

Please forgive me kind sir or madam. It’s been many years. Here are the patch notes I was referring to:

Since I cannot post links, google ‘d2 v1.07 patch notes’ and look for the first fandom result.

And that page also has links to the patch notes for 1.08, 1.09, 1.10, 1.11, 1.12, 1.13c, each of which included several balance and itemization tweak

i dont call them purists they are 1.14 player , nothing purists there , real purists are 1,08 or 1.09 player asking no change ,
