it would be better. im not sure why they bothered coding it differently betwen normal and nightmare/hell. could have been part of the time constraints? mid way through they realized? “hey, why are we bothering with listing every monster level manually” but didnt go back and fix it for normal? no idea. the monster levels set for monsters in the nightmare and hell slots are useless since the area’s level just replaces it afterwards.

only thing missing on this thread is a little rick roll

It’s not a true ladder if I don’t mess up a socket quest item. Already messed up my first Insight attempt in a similar way. The ladder is on!

As Revenant said, this is one of the reasons why displaying ilvl would be a massive QoL improvement that would take nearly no effort. Please Blizz.

Game uses a complete different file for normal mobs atributes

It would be if they didnt come up with that lame idea of building over d2 engine

me too man, me too… ack

That was a super smart observation. (not being sarcastic)

Actually you can make a Spirit Crystal/Broad/Long Sword and Insight Polearm before you get to Act 3 Normal, but it is very hard to do. MrLlamaSC made one during the D2 Resurrected Beta where you could only play Acts 1 and 2 in Normal. Gotta get the 4 Sock Crystal/Broad/Long Sword to drop from one of Act 2’s Unique Preserved Dead for this to happen. Then gotta farm runes to cube up for the Tal Thul Ort Amn for Spirit, and Ral Tir Tal Sol for Insight. Only monster type with high enough mlvl between Act 1 and 2 Normal that can drop 4 Sock Crystal/Broad/Long Sword, and 4 Sock Polearms are the Unique Boss Preserved Dead.

Items dropped from some mobs in chaos will be below ilvl 26. Used to see it all the time in PLUGY on old school d2. You are rolling the dice with chaos drops. Got two from pindle mobs and cows. Both worked for 4 sockets.

finally, someone with actual game knowledge posts the answer… i was literally screaming as i scrolled down 22 wrong answers.

To be honest bro
…why did you waste a larzuk on ultra common 4os crystal swords anyway…just get one from normal cows

They didnt change larzuk quest, the item level you got isnt high enough to be a 4 socket.

I picked up a crystal sword from normal cows, just took it to larzuk and he gave it back to me with 3 sockets. :man_shrugging:

OP is defnitely not tripping. Hes on to something.

Our group had a crystal drop in Throne room and it rolled 3 o/s

So it is not save to give an crystal dropped in cows normal to larzuk for 4 sockets atm?

Theres nothing in the patch notes about that?

it is safe, I edited the main post with the explanation of what happened

i’ve literally never had one drop already socketed, every crystal sword i’ve used for a spirit runeword i either had to trade for or socket with larzuk.

what i don’t understand is why people are calling it a waste to use larzuk to socket things. it only takes a few hours to play through from creating a new character to getting the larzuk quest, and less than an hour if you have a friend rush you.

because it’s a 4os sword, which are ultra common either in CS or BS form…it’s truly a waste. But hey, do what y’all wanna do, I can’t stop any of you.

items cant spawn with 4os in normal, they’re limited to 3. the only way to get a 4os item in normal is cube or larzuk. larzuk is guaranteed, cube is 1/2 chance to get 4os (and needs runes not easily available at that level)
