they didn’t change anything, you are missing vital information.
monster level =/= area level in normal. this is only true in nightmare and hell. normal has different logic.

the area level of chaos sanc is 28, but the level of the monsters are:
oblivion knight: 30
doom knight: 24
venom lord: 30
storm caster: 30

looks like the monster that dropped it was a doom knight, which is too low for 4os socket on the crystal sword.

edit: many areas in normal can drop items capable of 4os with larzuk, but theres a reason everyone says cows. theres no room for error at cows. anywhere else unless you know the exact monster that dropped it, theres no guarantee its high enough level

Yes with Larzuk. Normal monarch, no cube action. Just tried to socket it right after I got it.

not possible. monarch’s TC is 72. it is fundamentally impossible for a monster at level 40 or lower to have a TC at 72. the only way to socket quest a monarch and get 3os is if it was a low quality monarch that got repaired.

Its not a bug, Doom knight in chaos normal has level 24 so sword from him has ilevel 24 so no 4 sockets.

It would have to drop from minion doom knight.

Just can tell you what happened. Found the monarch in act 1 pit. Didnt do anything in cube. Tried to socket it … 3 os :confused:

are you sure its a monarch? its not a dragon shield or a kite shield?
what’s the defense and durability on the 3os monarch now?

Actually I feel a bit dumb right now … I think I went full on vision and really cant tell you afterwards. I think I just tunneld on the monarch so hard while reaching hell that I just saw the image and went to socket it. So it was probaly a kite or dragon shield … sorry for the confusion … I am stupid.

OK, so it was likely a lvl 24 doom knight that dropped the Crystal Sword, and the Monarch was actually a Kite or Dragon shield.

Ah well. Fun times. :slight_smile:

The question that remains is why monsters in normal have fixed levels, while in nm and hell their levels are according to the area

I would imagine they either have a really good reason, or they just got lazy after normal difficulty.
