Random shower thoughts

Maybe it would possible to have meaningful discussions about the game’s balance/designs etc. if we used realistic scenarios as benchmarks instead of lazer-focusing on what’s happening at the game’s breaking point in terms of buildcrafting. This should also be extended to content creators who funnel that approach one click-bait at a time.

Can promise you Solo P8 will never be balanced, its not mathematicallly possible unless they completely flatten the scaling of every single ability in the game. And even then every other factors like area of effect tick rate etc. would dictate the new meta.

The second thing that would greatly improve any kind of discussions here would be if people stop taking any kind of disagreement with their opinions as a personal attack and instantly pull out the “i’m smarter than you” card. Its not only incredibly cringy and causes me and probably a lot of other people to instantly form a very specific mental image of you, it inevitably derails every discussions into crapshoots.

Thank you for coming for my TED talk.

Another thing people need to do in this forum, is understand the clear difference between an opinion and a fact.

There are too many people in this forum who throw out opinions and then attempt to defend those opinions as if they were facts.

I’ve never seen this problem get so bad in any other gaming forum.

I mean usually if a person comes into a thread and proves that 2+2=4 and that 2+2 does not = 5, people accept the factual evidence and move on. But for some reason in the D2r forum, people will choose to blatantly ignore factual data and continue to push their opinion as they actually go out of their way to make the factual data look as if it were incorrect.

It’s really weird and out of control in this forum for some reason.

Its probably because the game caters to a pretty wide array of playstyles but obviously everyone seem to think theirs is the only valid one. For example you have the single player players who farm P8 using the same save files over and over to complete a grail or something, you have the competitive ladder players speed running as a team, you have the single player speed runners posting their times in speedrun communities, the regular casual ladder enjoyer, an Hardcore Mode variation of everything mentioned above and finally PvPers.

That’s a bit rich coming from you. You’ll do anything to save face.

Seeing as how you wanted to poke me, I’ll go ahead and post a link to the discussion in which I know you are referring to.

Anyone who cared to actually read this, would plainly see your delusion & attempt to psychologically project your own faults at my accuracies.

In this thread link, you display a perfect example of what I was detailing here in this thread about knowing the difference between opinions and facts: Dbrunski’s thoughts on 2.4, HIT the gas - General Discussion - Diablo 2 Resurrected Forums (blizzard.com)

Thank you actually. Great supporting example.

Lets not kid ourself, your reply to OP was a indirect attack at me because of the back and forth we just had minutes earlier.

My friend, you are not special amongst the hundreds of other users who act the same exact way.

Don’t flatter yourself.

I’m a big fan of this one.

States opinion as fact. People disagree. Commence pages of REEEEEEEEEEEE

D2r forums have a very peculiar problem, it’s one of the only places where people intentionally misinterpret what was written and still think they can make some kind of argument of it

Not to mention the amount of confirmation bias in technical discussions

Yes, and they continue it on and on and on for several days or weeks or months.

Actually look at these argument links they are posting in attempts to go out of their way to come into this thread as if anyone would read any of that and agree with them.

I never even mentioned anyone by name, but lo and behold, these particular users read this thread and go out of their way to show up in this thread as if they took this discussion personally, when in fact no one said anything to them at all.

Got to wonder why that is.

Look at this ^

Ah yes, the “View one hidden reply” nominee of 2022.

I put this one on the wagon and shipped them away within a few exchanges. First response is always a personal attack or belittling and it’s rather impressive the energy with which this individual pursues their “responses”. I don’t have time for it though.

Even Hanz, with whom I have regular disagreements concerning what is or isn’t powercreep vs. viability isn’t as kneejerk.

Yeah, think its going my approach too. If someone just opens a counterargument with “you’re so dumb/you don’t undersand anything/lol you can’t read” they probably don’t have anything of value to say anyway.

I’m just surprised this is so bad here. Isn’t there a D2R sub-Reddit where all the fedora-tippers could gather and flatter each other?

I wish, then maybe the whole “You want boobs on a videogame character, you must be a sexist”, nonsense could stop. It’s not going anywhere though, sadly.

I actually enjoy disagreements & discussions when a person is not using logical fallacies, not being insulting, and is not ignorant. ← These are the kinds of discussions that everyone can learn something from, even the people who thought they knew everything.

But lately in 2022 here, people have seem to forgotten the virtue in such discussions that “keep it real” so to say.

Seriously, just about 50% of the forum users in this D2r forum, choose to immediately attack you in a discussion and find some directly insulting way to discredit your side of a discussion, without providing any actual evidence or statistics & math or any logical reasonable statement whatsoever to support their aggression.

It’s actually just getting weird at this point.

Trump’s and others alternative facts shaped American culture a lot. You can’t have a meanungful discussion without personal attacks, discrediting or derailing with nonsensensual arguments. Even when you shove the truth into their faces with videos (strangly enough, they cater to video material more) they still continue with their agenda.
My conclusion is the problem isn’t D2R specific, more like North American’s millenial problem.
How do I know? That type of behaviour is mostly absent from European platforms. It just seems there is more of the problem on d2r forums because the concentration of 35-50y olds is very high.

I always try to be cordial in my first responses

But i can be a prick(mainly bc i had to repeat/over explain myself) with you in one thread and fully agree with you in another one

I find many people here take things too hard and seriously. It’s hard to have a debate, a huge portions of threads is about people complaining. Devs can’t almost do anything because they’d either piss off purists or modernists.

I prefer changing things, if they don’t work, we re-shape them.

Can we please leave out politics? Also as you’ve written, we’re not only USA people here.

I didn’t exclude any Europeans or people from other parts of the world but the issue is partially a cultural problem from NA. Now, visit the EU edition of this same website (type in google “battlennet forum d2 eu/asia”) here or the Asian one and see the quality of posts in general section on page 1. You’ll mostly find trade games, constructive critic or people asking for changes in a civil manner. Hardly anyone insults, derails or winds up people there.
I can’t leave out politics because that type of behavior was deemed alright exactly after those events. A news provider like fox news would not even be able to exist over here.
Before some asks why I post here, well, developers mostly cater to the user base here so I have to post here to make myself heard.
