It could be designed to allow the game creator to set the number of max players and px number. The game creator can already set max player count for D2R games (and level difference, terrorized or not, etc…).
Px could be set to 8 players and max player count to 8. As the game fills completely up, it becomes just-like a normal 8 player game. If a player dropped out, then it would still remain p8.
I think that would be up to the game creator just as the game creator can set the max player count currently or whether the game is terrorized or the level difference for players to join.
Well it isnt really up to the game creator because as players join in or leave the lobby, the Players 8 option should still be active, hence all the bonuses and monster buffs.
Yes you can set it initially but after that its on auto pilot.
Since px can be done in single player, it seems quite likely to be technically possible in multiplayer. The online game already can dynamically adjust to player number in multiplayer games. We also can set max players in an online game so that part is definitely possible.
Yes its possible there because the name already says it. SinglePlayer
I think the real reason is not to play with 2 other friends online in a P8 game but to rather get the bonuses. The monster toughness doesnt really matter anymore because players already know that it is possible to complete. I dont want go down the rabbit whole of in game economy, bots and other possibilties that will come up if it is implemented but “the challenge” sounds more like an cover up story.
All that is probably the consequence of Blizzard removing TCP/IP from the version.
You can think whatever you want but there is reality. Why would you not play with 2 friends/family online? That makes no sense.
Do you think I am going be telling them sorry I do not want to play with you since I can set px and play solo? What type of horrible person does that to their family and/or friends?
I did play with 4 friends even. However i dont see the real gain of having the px “option” in the multiplayer environment. Except that x player want the bonuses of P8 because the difficulty is a non factor anymore.
It’s a month of excitement and then the whole discussion starts over. Yes they may be x amount of players who would welcome that change because of the reasons mentioned above, but it doesnt add anything to the game.
I’d rather discuss a new difficulty system which is way harder to implement.
That’s wasted resources to implement the px option if you know as a dev that you are re working the difficulty, balancing, items -and more… basically reworking the whole game, except story and the world.
When I play with family/friends I like it to have some difficulty/risk. If I am one shotting everything (or someone else or multiple party members) that is not terribly engaging gameplay for the group as a whole.
This would be absolute magic. Fair. Fun. And bring players back more than almost any other change or update ever would. P8 is required to be a setting not “player place holders preventing extra players from joining” we still want to play with others, just with higher difficulty.
When you play long enough, its a sad experience to delete the screen with buddies on p2-3. It feels clunky and rushed. Needs some tension. Not more race to nowhere.
