This just happened to me. All my characters are gone.
Just wait, they are doing fixes on servers and doing server reboots to address the lockout problem. Close diablo, bnet and relogin in a few minutes. Characters are not gone, you’re just failing to connect to the bnet server.
I was getting same message when trying to join a game from the lobby…exited lobby to find all 3 of my online characters gone
Heyy ohhhh, so after being locked out of playing on PC this weekend because of the AVX fiasco i decided to buy the game on PS4 to at least enjoy the weekend that i had planned out and now i log in and my characters are gone… After all this this shyt hahahah, i can’t do this anymore…
Mind boggling how they can keep on messing things up even more.

I exited the game and tried to create a new one. When I created a new game it said couldn’t find character on server. So I exited the Diablo two application and restarted it. Once I connected to the battlenet again server my level 29 Sorc was gone!! Completely, that’s a pretty ridiculous bug even for maintenance feels almost like a troll!! Almost like someone is messing around trying to upset people. Even if this is fixed still absolutely ridiculous to have online character disappear even for maintenance can make someone have a heart attack.

My heroes are back, but the one I was playing for an hour+ and only logged off while maintenance was apparently happening(ahem…please put an in-game notification about maintenance and potentially losing progress) is now “already in a game”

Hello my character named Viksa dissapear after crash. 
I spent all weekends on playing. Last hour reached diablo and passed 2 acts in row with a very good party. And now you say “it’s gone”? So I need a weekend more? Blizzard, wtf. You’re losing USER’S DATA! That’s the worst thing that can happen with any provider. The worst! This is the free shard server level! Think about it.

I was playing Diablo 2 resurrected, then I got interrupted during the game and it logged me out, then I noted that you started a live maintenance and that we can still log back in, but when I did my char was gone. please help!
I logged off then logged back in a few mins ago and I lost all my characters including a lvl 72

Characters are back, but the one that was lost last night is still lost.
