Is there a logical reason anymore against personal loot?

This is not the best alternative this is awful. We just want ploot simple.

This does not fix many problems with FFA such as latency, positioning of character, etc.
Unless it is like 10 seconds for any item drop, and for one person only.

Actually it fixes both latency and pickit very easily. It’s a loot roll system so the party can clear content together and if anything drops, they roll for it.

You would need some pretty heavy convincing as to why a Diablo 3 online-singleplayer style loot system deserves a place in D2. That’s like taking split-mf which is already dog s*** gameplay and bringing it to the group proximity. If you have good reasons, I’m willing to hear them.

But this is what I think could possibly make D2R more engaging:

  1. Screen proximity MF bonus (for FFA looting)
  2. And then adding an alternative Loot Roll system like Contested loot

Those two can work in conjunction with each other. Single instance looting wouldn’t work with 1. and the reason for that is it just doesn’t fit the theme of the game. Let’s kill monsters together with ease and at the same time collect items with ease. What kind of game is that?

No it does not. It has same flaws from FFA. If you lag, or you are far from an Item, you would not get a chance to “contest” especially against Pickit users. Also consider scenario where everyone just presses on all items to “contest” for them, you would likely end up with absolutely nothing.

I do not understand this.

This is a subjective opinion.

There is no need to “contest” just normally dropped items are auto-distributed between different people. Sure, after like 20 seconds they can be FFA. This is our definition of ploot. “Contesting” would make the gameplay way slower pace and is not efficient practically.

Ok so you are asking for loot allocation like from PoE where it automatically assigns one person loot for a certain amount of time, and then if they don’t pick it up, it becomes FFA? That’s slowing down the gameplay 10x more if some dude is willing to stand there and wait for it.

Contested Loot is you see a Lo rune drop, everyone clicks on it, continues moving, after 3 - 4 seconds later it goes in someones inventory, you don’t need to stand there and wait. And yeah everyone is going to contest anything good that drops. (Potions and scrolls and blues wouldn’t be contestable).

And you see this is where your loot allocation has a massive problem in D2. Why should one dude be assigned potions, blues, whites, sorc orbs, druid helms, that he/she doesn’t even need?

That’s a flawed design and that’s where Contested Loot buries it in the dirt.

If it’s normal and a Sorc orb drops, the Barbarian is going to keep going and the Sorc is going to stand there and wait for it.

When you say Contested Loot wouldn’t solve latency that doesn’t make sense. Who is still getting 3 second ping spikes in 2022? It sounds like that guy needs to solve his internet problems.

edit:

Actually, the loot roll and the PoE loot allocation are both the same thing. With the PoE allocation, the game is just pre-rolling the loot in the background. Except as I pointed out, it would be a little ridiculous to assign potions, scrolls, whites, blues, gold, to someone. That’s why Contested Loot only does Uniques, Runes, etc. So Contested Loot allows the players to decide what they want to roll for. A bonesnap maul drops, the Druid and the Barb roll for it, the Sorc ignores it. There’s no difference here, but Contested Loot seems to be the more efficient way to assign loot to someone in D2.

Unless you were talking about D3’s single instance looting system where everyone gets their own loot from each monster kill. That’s the only alternative to Contested Loot, I don’t see how anything else beats it, not just in efficiency, but excitement and anticipation.

Totally feel that. My modified timed loot is very similar but has a few advantages vs contested loot system.

contested loot would still use the MF of the person who made the kill. In the modified timed loot, it would be the average of all the teams MF but not visible, so teams couldn’t necessarily “stack mf”.
Also in contested loot, the 2-3 sec window can be too short a time period. I’m suggesting at least 5 secs to a max of 8 secs in the modified timed loots.
Also, loot would be auto “contested” and "winner would have the time period of the 5 to 8 secs to get it or leave it for FFA
Also** I’m suggesting loots that are in the 5-8 second window have a glow or similar effect on them, so they are easily seen and identifiable during the time they are not FFA

this is something that is set via a filter at game creation. meaning if for example the team only wants runes to be “contested” than thats only items

the funniest part of that statement is now funnily enough its generally the people who live out in the middle of nowhere how have better ping.

i have lived in silicon valley all my life except for 6 months
and everything things " oh you must have amazing internet there" and yeah… we do… but everyone and their grandma’s dog is on the internet.

the amount of internet"traffic" here means some delays.

i lived in AZ and Michigan for 3 months each. and i had MUCH better internet there in the middle of nowhere… because not very many people were frankly using it so i basically got an insane amount of bandwidth and no traffic delays…

this revelation really surprised me.

Right, but the game sucks and the itemization is trash, so less like D3 is always the option.

Personal opinion.

Both D2 and D3 has strengths and weaknesses.

Na, D3 is pretty bad. Its an especially bad Diablo game and feels more like an arcade gauntlet. Literally hasn’t been talent at the company in 20 years.

That is your personal opinion. Both games have strengths and weaknesses. I will even go one step further in that some of the differences in D3 were caused in part due to widespread complaints about D2 (e.g. auto-gold pickup, shated stash, removal of ilvls for game areas, etc…)

again, there is no point in timed loot or contested loot if it still is worst than playing alone

we should just go instanced p1 with the average team mf

It’s probably been mentioned many times over.

But here it is one more time.

And this is almost to one of the earliest responses up there behind the OP.

The reason most people play alone, is because there is no ploot. Diablo’s FFA loot system is what encouraged the anti-social aspect of Diablo Mutliplayer where people only really play together just to spend as little time with each other as possible with the sole intent of skipping past all the content, just so they can quickly go back to playing alone running a boring 10% of the entire games content over and over again for efficiencies sake.

Where once you got to hell, there were no… “Player” lobbies to just play the game anymore.

I’d say anyone crying about drastic changes that might improve the actual Multiplayer aspect of the game over the long-term that avoid it becoming an anti-social e-peen contest of swinging your LK Chest run skills around, should probably sit down and stop trying to hold the game back from becoming something better than a game for autistic OCD and only rewarding that.

I see some other person crying about needing to build infinities for this build, doom’s for that build. am I’m like. How do I turn an insight into any of that.

yes. excellent reply

Na, its an actual fact that D3 is a terrible game. I remember waiting a year for PoE felt like an eternity.

Because part of the fun of D2/D2R is the trading. Personalized loot with effectively disable trading as a whole therefore changing the game.

65 million players to date

We digress.

So the fun in Diablo 2 is using an outside forum looking at text?

The fun is supposed to be playing the game.

You put a hard filter on this game that said. You don’t get to enjoy anything past an insight unless you Autist 10% of the game, or use the website.

No thanks. As dumb and as easy as you think it is to embrace it. It’s not right.

Anyone who plays diablo so they can enjoy a JSP forum is insane.

i mean yeah that’s true, but… d2 has maybe 80% strength and 20% weakness where d3 has maybe 95% weakness and 5% strength?

there are things d3 did right… i love the transmogs, i like the unique effects in the cube.

but overall d3 became a complete ****show because of infinite scaling and sets that force you into certain builds.

d2 is much more “pick any skill you want and make a build around it”

d3 is “pick a set we designed for you because u don’t have any other decent options”
oh and have fun playing follow the leader in rifts because everything is glass cannon in 1 shots

d3 did some things right but it ruined so many others its basically a complete joke
