Do we know if they’re aware of it? The only temporary workaround I found is switching to the classic graphics. But then why did I spend $50 to get this game if I can’t enjoy the new graphics? Well I can but I’m not going to melt down my GPU for this.
It’s a Geforce 3060 12gb GPU and while it’s not the most powerful on the market, it should be able to fly through this game without even a hickup. There are people with much worse graphics cards that aren’t having these issues.
Can someone from Blizzard please respond if this is being looked at? I know lots of people in the Beta were having similar issues. Below are some examples:
Same here. My GPU 3070 Ti is running super hot compared to anything else I play. Seems like some kind of fix is needed. I think I’m not going to play until this is addressed. Too difficult to get a replacement graphics card these days.
I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this game is running my system wrong. Mine ramps up and heats up as soon as I start the game. No other game does that. By the way my laptop is a gaming MSI one only 5 months old.
I’m going to have to sideline this game if that is how it is intended to play. Hope that is not the case.
Same here.
i9-9900K + 2080 Super
GPU is running at 100% and goes to 78-82 degrees Celsius at 1440p 144fps even at medium settings.
It’s not like this game looks like an AAA title or anything. RDR2 runs way cooler. Cyberpunk 2077 even with all its issues ran way cooler than this. Both those games are huge open world games in full 3d with tons of models, textures, shadows, reflections, etc while D2R is a 2d game.
fwiw, I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed as well. No improvement.
I want to enjoy this game and be able to recommend it to friends who are hesitant to pick it up, but can’t do that in good faith right now
That is odd cause my specs are about the same as well i9 9900k 2080 Super, 16gb Ram
Yet my temps never went above 60 when i could play the 4 hours at launch but haven’t played since then though so maybe something inbetween that and the maintenance’s messed with the settings?
I’m late to this party, but I had to cap my framerate. I cut it to 60 fps and it drastically cut my GPU utilization and temps. Base game runs at 25 fps anyway, so the uber framerate doesn’t do anything for you otherwise. Running Ryzen 3800x with RTX 3080 Ti.
And this is why some of us refunded during the beta. We knew this wouldn’t be fixed. GPUs are costing between $500 for a GTX 1660 and over $1,500 for a decent 30xx series. (Not sure what comparable Raidon cards cost, but I’m sure they are $$$) Uh, no thanks Blizzard.
Right? Those games on ultra/high settings at 2560x1440 don’t get my cards this hot. Something is up and these were reported during the betas. I hope they find out what is causing it for some people.
Newest drivers only dropped temps by around a degree for me.
Said it before but cap your framerate to 60 fps and set the render settings to 95%. I’m running ultra graphics, hitting my 60 FPS and running at 55C at 1440p since I did that. Don’t need more than 60fps since the underlying engine is only 24fps to begin with. You’re not missing anything at 90/120fps otherwise.
I didn’t know this was an issue. I was playing the game in legacy graphics on my laptop, and then the screen suddenly went dim. It seemed like I had knocked out the power cord and the battery saver option went on, but then I put my hand on my laptop and it was very hot to the touch.
I’ve updated drivers. And I’m hoping the brightness comes back after it sits off and cools for a bit.
I’ll attempt what people have suggested and cap frame rate–if my computer isn’t busted.
Edit update: I finished updating the driver, shut the computer off until it was cool to the touch, restarted, and the display brightness seemed fixed. Then I set my max FPS at 60 and opened the game. I opened the options and turned all graphics options all the the lowest. Three seconds later, my display when dim again.
I don’t have the skills to try to troubleshoot beyond this. It seems that D2R effed my laptop.
Hey man that helped a ton. It brought the average GPU usage down by like 35% to 40% and temps down by like 20 degrees. Still making it work but at this point I’m no longer concerned. Thanks bro
Put in me the overheating GPU group as well. I have had to drastically lower settings to get this game at reasonable temperatures, and even then this game uses way to much resources. Why is my 2060 super using over 7 gigs of vram on this game? With settings turned down? What is this and why? The vram keeps climbing the longer I have the game running…assuming it doesn’t crash of course…
