Character Missing - Pretty Confident not Accidental Delete

Hello, tried to logon about 30 minutes ago and my character “Thermo” sorceress on Americas was missing. I am pretty confident I did not delete and was wondering if it just disappeared. Was wondering if I could get some help with this? Thank you!

i also have this same issue, and i saw other people having this issue. blizzards support page only says that they can not bring back deleted character’s or items, sorry. but I didn’t delete mine either! if you get a fix to this please let me know

Missing my level 51 amazon as well after logging off Friday night. Support had no help to offer me, hoping to at least get an update or something here.

Hey you three,

We’ve looked into a ton of these, so far, and while there are a couple of outliers we’re still checking out, the vast majority of people seem to have accidentally or intentionally deleted their characters using the X button on the UI.

  • Vio’s sorceress was manually deleted from within the game client shortly before they logged out on the 28th.

  • Silvermoon, I assume you’re looking for your amazon, our records show it was manually deleted a bit before you logged out this morning.

  • BatmanLovesU, you had the same situation on the 1st of October with your amazon.

For each of the three of you, somebody at your PC appears to have pushed the delete button and confirmed the prompt. Once this happens, there’s no way to recover the character and you’d need to start from scratch.

We’ve gotten some feedback that it’s easier than it should be to accidentally delete characters, and the devs are working on that. If you have any other feedback for character deletions, you can post that in #general-discussion.

Before this thread gets entirely out of hand, I’m not going to manually check and follow up on absolutely everybody’s characters because the vast majority of these that we’ve seen in support have been manually deleted by players, accidentally or otherwise. That said, I’m checking threads for these reports periodically, so if I find any outliers that were not manually deleted we’ll let the team know so they can try to figure out what happened.

Given that I force closed the d2 client while still in the lobby when I shut down my pc, I’m not sure how exactly that could have happened.

Also throwing my hat into this, I’ve already opened a ticket, and spoken with another Gm about my Zon being gone which they cannot assist with restoration etc though I did not manually delete the char. My issue is I have video proof from shadowplay when my char “poofed” and no Gm is yet to comment on this.

Thank you for confirmation the Devs also realize we need some better stop lights and guardrails! Both Console and PC have a load of accidental deletes.

Excellent. I am glad there is manual checking even if it is a sampling. That should help find out if any are actually vanishing for real.

As soon as the Devs change the Delete UI I think most of this will go away nearly entirely and any remainder of them will be easier to troubleshoot.

Blizz GMs are not allowed to use Screenshots or Video to resolve tickets. Sadly some people will fake things to get what they want. They can only go by the internal logs. Those logs are VERY limited for D2, D2R, and D3 unfortunately so they can’t just restore chars - no matter why it vanished.

No I completely understand and even though I was distraught when it happened I’ve moved on I was mentioning the video incase it could be used to isolate what / where it went wrong.

Happened to my friend as well we were playing and he said he couldn’t access his menu, inventory or move then got booted and his character no longer exists and it’s quite frustrating

Just tried to log in and my character is missing. I definitely did not delete. Can someone take a look please.

hello! i accidentally deleted my character (“Chilly”) today by hitting the X button very quickly and immediately shut off my xbox hoping it didn’t save the input, but it did

i was level 82 and had some good items and honestly it hurts to lose all of that :frowning: lol

i suggest a 5 second countdown after the delete button is hit so the user cannot select “ok” until the 5 seconds are up

I just deleted my Lvl 85 Sorc, my Main Char, on Accident. Not sure if I got what it takes to start all over again. Blizz should change the delete-Process and restore those that were accidentally deleted.

I guess I’ll post here, because at the time, I had 5 characters, but when I logged in the next morning, I only had two. I just find it hard to believe I could’ve accidentally deleted THREE characters, but truth is I’d fallen asleep while playing the game, and I’ve been playing with a controller. So I mean I guess it’s POSSIBLE, but like I said, just hard to believe.

Also, is there really no way to restore them? I’d been playing the game with my dad, and we were having an awesome time, just about to enter Hell mode. It was only a week, but I’d taken off time from work, just to play with my dad. It’d just be awesome to be able to finish our adventure.

Not that hard to believe. The ui on controller is so bad to can drop your controller and delete a character.

Yep… accidently pressed X A on my controller on character select. 79 sorc gone. Perfect. That is fun.

Happened to me on xbox dropped my controller by mistake and poof 66 sorc gone there has to be a way to recover.

i had a bug and mine was deleted after 2 days from release… also i think they should sort their s#$% out because this is something that will lose their client base … its alot of work to have something taken away.

Logged into my account and noticed my Fully geared Hammerdin was missing… And all my HR’s and gear in his personal stash. So much work and time put into this and there is no way to get it back because of a UI design flaw? Do a roll back on peoples account to the time they last played before deletion.

If someone says they never deleted their character and you come on and tell them they did manually delete their character, there is an obligation to restore their character. It just makes common sense and to fix the company’s screw up… Not just tell everyone they just wasted their time and now to do it all over again please.
