What did the email you got say? It told you the category of your infraction.
They are not going to tell you exactly what cheat they caught, but they will tell you if your ban is related to that category.

Their devs currently warning all players they will be banned for Botty. This message is from today. And somehow today so many âinnocentâ people who got banned for âno reasonâ.

This could be it. Botters use VPN and you may have false positive. They donât like people playing over VPN.
They donât allow it on old Bnet for D2. It will result in a 2 week suspension there.
Modern Bnet does not prohibit VPNs although they are not technically âsupportedâ, in that they wonât tell you how to get it working. Tech support sometimes actually suggests trying one to troubleshoot connection path issues.
It CAN cause a false flag, but that is rare. They use more than just the IP when running detection algorithms. The account behavior matters too.
The most common consequence of a VPN on modern Bnet is a security challenge/temp lock when the launcher detects a massive change in your login location or behavior. Then you have to change your password, enter a code, something from the new IP. If someone does use a VPN with modern Blizz games, it is best to use the same one every time and put an Authenticator on the account. That prevents most of the security locks.
Funny story related to VPNs and WoW. Here is a real scenario that someone tried to defend. Note that account sharing, except between a parent and one minor child, is against the rules. So are paid services.
- Account password changed, Authenticator removed.
- Account logs in from NEW location in Z country thousands of miles away.
- Account is played from new IP and new Hardware IDs.
- Account completes Mage Tower Achievements (very hard)
- Account is logged into again from original location.
- Account password is changed, Authenticator is put back on the account.
But butâŚI just used a VPN, that is all! I went to a friendâs house and used a VPN, that must be it!!
Needless to say the paid account sharing carries for the Mage Tower got people some consequences. Blizz knows the difference between standard VPN use and cheating (usually).

Really seems very unlikely someone would be false flagged even having other legit software running. They arenât looking at other software. Itâs looking at the game and anything interacting with it

Also I doubt Blizzard analyzes running processes since it will be illegal and probably will be caught by AV. But they can check if any program is attached to their process or access process memory. Also task to detect MH is simple because map on level is generated as you go. MH sends many requests to reveal map, shows all elite packs and shines while player position is known to them. I have seen MH back in a days and even had running Pindlebot on separate key/account for a short time back in 1.09. My MF Orb sorc obviously was banned at lvl97, but I was happy. Bot took away any my motivation to play game, other then to trade Shafts/GF/WF/SSs for duped sojs. xD. Good riddance. Bots are cancer so also is MH.

Yeah⌠and the Mage Tower is a solo challenge. Nobody can carry you like in a raid. Hence when you can do it, the mounts and stuff are a very cool thing to be proud of. But of course, some people have to cheat.
I am the stubborn sort. I earn my badges, or lumps, on my own merit. I waited something like 15 years for them to remove a single achievement out of a a sub achievement that was part of a year long Meta to get a mount. Every achievement for every holiday event all year. BUT that one was PvP which I hate, required doing things that made the game miserable for real PvP folks, and felt ick. You had to take orphans to the battlegrounds. I COULD have had someone do it for me in less than an hour but I never did, not even back when I had a housemate who was into PvP and could have just walked over to my PC. This year they removed that one bad achievement. I have my drake.

yeah a representative just told me âVPN usage is not supportedâ, wow, just âunsupportedâ. they will never answer me if I will definitely get banned. I played via booster to minimize disconnections, my IP address might change before I got banned unexpectedly. donât even know if this is the cause.
Correct. They wonât make a promise that a VPN canât play a factor in account actions. As a general rule, they will not approve any third party software or hardware that they donât make/control. It does not mean it would get you in trouble, just that they donât know what the software does or what it might do later because they donât make it. They canât account for anything and everything that players think up. I think my statement mostly explains the details of it so you can make your own decisions.
A VPN alone wonât do it. Further, having an Authenticator on the Account can reduce security related issues and flags. They do look at account behavior as well.
Account sharing is not allowed, so, keep that in mind. That is why I explained the Mage tower suspensions in WoW.
